Prologue

Japan has become a battlefield. Since time immemorial, colossal creatures, called Kaiju, have emerged from the depths of the sea, the sky and the darkest corners of the earth to wreak havoc. Each attack is a test of survival for humanity, but also a call to resistance. In response to this threat, the Japan Defense Force was born, an elite group of warriors equipped with the best technology to face the impossible. Among them are legendary heroes who have written their names into history with blood and sacrifice. But not everyone is fortunate enough to wield a weapon on the front line. Thirty-two-year-old Kafka Hibino once dreamed of being part of that force. As a child, he and his friend Mina Ashiro vowed to protect the world from the Kaiju. But life took him down another path. Now he works at the Kaiju Cleanup Corporation, taking care of the monstrous remains that others have taken down. His dream has become a bitter memory, an echo of what could have been. But fate is unpredictable. An unexpected encounter with a mysterious creature changes his life forever. His body begins to transform. His blood boils with an unknown power. In a cruel twist of fate, Kafka becomes the very thing he swore to destroy: a Kaiju. In a society that ruthlessly exterminates these beasts, Kafka faces a new reality. Can he control his power? Will he continue to fight for humanity or will he be consumed by his new nature? In a world where monsters and humans clash relentlessly, his very existence could alter the fate of the war.

Good and neutral characters

1. Kafka Hibino (Kaiju No. 8) Protagonist of the story. Former employee of the Kaiju Cleaning Corporation. Transforms into a humanoid Kaiju with superhuman abilities. He dreams of joining the Defense Force to fight the Kaiju. 2. Ashiro Mine Commander of the Third Division of the Japanese Defense Force. Kafka's childhood friend. Expert in the use of high-caliber rifles to eliminate Kaiju. Respected for her leadership and combat skills. 3. Reno Ichikawa Young candidate for the Defence Force. Kafka's close friend and companion. He stands out for his precision and combat skills with weapons. Although he initially doubts Kafka, he ends up supporting him. 4. Kikoru Shinomiya Prodigy recruit for the Defense Force. Daughter of the organization's CEO, Isao Shinomiya. Expert in combat with energy axes. Despite his initial arrogance, he recognizes Kafka's value. 5. Hoshina Soshiro Vice-captain of the Third Division. Master in the use of katanas to cut Kaiju with great precision. He has a laid-back personality but becomes serious in combat. She discovers the truth about Kafka and secretly helps him. 6. Isao Shinomiya Director General of the Defence Force. Kikoru's father and one of the most powerful people in the organization. He possesses a high-level combat suit with monstrous capabilities. He sees Kafka as a threat at first, but recognizes his potential. 7. Narumi Gen Captain of the First Division of the Defence Force. Expert in combat with swords and firearms. Eccentric and charismatic, but lethal in battle. He recognizes Kafka's talent and trains him. 8. Aoi Kaguragi Member of the First Division. Combat support and strategy specialist. 9. Haruichi Izumo A recruit of the Defense Force and Kikoru and Reno's partner. Skilled in combat and with a great sense of duty.

Bad and hostile characters

1. Kaiju No. 9 (The Main Antagonist) Intelligent and able to speak, something unusual among Kaiju. He can regenerate and modify his body at will. Their goal is to evolve and create an army of humanoid Kaiju. Able to possess human and Kaiju bodies to strengthen himself. It becomes the greatest threat to the Defense Force. 2. Kaiju No. 10 One of Kaiju No. 9's creations. Extremely aggressive and powerful in combat. He faces Soshiro Hoshina and almost defeats him. Its core is extracted and later turned into a weapon for Hoshina. 3. Kaiju No. 11 and 12 Minor Kaiju Creations No. 9. They have not had as much prominence as No. 9 and No. 10. 4. Kaiju No. 2 (Past) A legendary Kaiju that caused great destruction in the past. His power is preserved in a special suit worn by Isao Shinomiya. It represents the brutality of the Kaiju of yesteryear. 5. Kaiju No. 6 (Past) One of the most powerful Kaiju in history. Responsible for the death of Kikoru Shinomiya's mother. Its core was used to develop an extremely strong weapon. 6. Kaiju Controlled by No. 9 Kaiju No. 9 can modify and manipulate other Kaiju, turning them into soldiers under his command. This allows him to create an army of monstrous beings with intelligence and strategy.

1. Headquarters of the Japanese Defense Force Main base of the organization in charge of fighting the Kaiju. Located at a strategic point to coordinate responses to Kaiju attacks. It has advanced technology, combat suits and training centers. 2. Third Division of the Defense Force Led by Mina Ashiro and her vice-captain Hoshina Soshiro. It is the division where Kafka, Reno and Kikoru begin their training. Their specialty is direct combat against medium and large sized Kaiju. 3. First Division of the Defence Force Commanded by Narumi Gen, the strongest warrior in the organization. Focuses on eliminating high threat level Kaiju. Its members possess the most advanced weapons and suits. 4. Defense Force Training Base Where recruits are tested and trained before joining the organization. Includes combat simulations and extreme endurance tests. It is here that Kafka and his companions are subjected to severe tests. 5. Kaiju Cleanup Corporation Company where Kafka works at the beginning of the story. He is in charge of dismantling and eliminating Kaiju remains after battles. It is the scene where Kafka is infected by the parasite that turns him into Kaiju No. 8. 6. Tokyo and its Districts Main scene of Kaiju attacks. Many key fights take place on city streets and buildings. The city is constantly being rebuilt due to the destruction caused by the Kaiju. 7. Defense Force Laboratories Place where the cores of the fallen Kaiju are studied. New weapons based on Kaiju biology are developed here. It is also where experiments with combat suits are carried out.
