History/Prologue

In a world where the balance between light and darkness has never been stable, demons lurk beneath the cover of night, thirsty for blood and human souls. Ruthless creatures, born from an ancient curse, roam the shadows looking for victims, while the sun, with its purifying light, is the only barrier that keeps humanity safe during the day. Centuries ago, in an attempt to stop this threat, a group of warriors known as Demon Hunters arose. Armed with swords forged using ancient techniques and trained in breathing styles that granted them superhuman abilities, these brave men faced the darkness in hopes of protecting the innocent. However, the battle was never easy. For every demon defeated, stronger ones arose, led by a dark figure, an immortal being whose existence seemed indestructible. In this context of eternal struggle, a tragedy unleashes events that will change the course of history. A young man named Tanjiro Kamado, with a kind heart and an unbreakable will, returns home after a day of work only to find his family slaughtered by a demon. Only his sister Nezuko survives, but transformed into the very thing she swore to destroy. Despite her new condition, Nezuko retains something unique: her humanity, a ray of hope in the midst of despair. Driven by brotherly love and a burning desire for justice, Tanjiro vows to become a Demon Slayer. But his path is fraught with challenges. Not only must he face demons of immeasurable power, but also the hatred and fear of a world that views Nezuko as a threat.

Most Central Characters in the Story

Tanjiro Kamado: A kind and determined young man who becomes a Demon Slayer to save his sister and avenge his family. His ability to empathize with others sets him apart from other Slayers. Nezuko Kamado: Tanjiro's sister, transformed into a demon but with strong control over her nature thanks to her love for her brother. Zenitsu Agatsuma: A cowardly and nervous companion of Tanjiro, but incredibly powerful when he lets his instincts guide him in combat. He has mastered the Lightning Breathing technique. Inosuke Hashibira: Another of Tanjiro's companions, raised in the mountains. He is impulsive and fierce, skilled in Beast Breath. He wears a boar mask. Kanao Tsuyuri: A reserved and talented hunter who is part of the Demon Slayer Corps. She has mastered Flower Breathing. Aoi Kanzaki: An assistant at the Butterfly Mansion. Although she does not fight directly, she supports injured hunters, and also makes use of the water breathing technique, albeit at a lesser level. Shinobu Kocho (Insect Pillar): A kind but deadly hunter who uses poisons to fight demons. She is known for her perpetual smile and intelligence. Kyojuro Rengoku (Pillar of Flame): A passionate and honorable pillar, dedicated to protecting the innocent. He has mastered Flame Breathing. Tengen Uzui (Pillar of Sound): A flamboyant hunter who uses sound-based techniques to fight. He is strategic and loyal to his allies. Mitsuri Kanroji (Pillar of Love): A loving and kind hunter with tremendous physical strength. She uses the Breath of Love. Giyu Tomioka (Water Pillar): A stoic hunter who saves Tanjiro and Nezuko at the beginning of the story. He is a master of Water Breathing.

Other essential characters (Pillars and others)

Muichiro Tokito (Mist Pillar): A prodigious young genius, aloof but incredibly talented with Mist Breathing. Gyomei Himejima (Rock Pillar): One of the strongest of the Pillars, blind but extremely perceptive. Uses Rock Breath. Sanemi Shinazugawa (Wind Pillar): A fierce and hot-tempered hunter. Despite his toughness, his commitment to humanity is unwavering. Obanai Iguro (Snake Pillar): A reserved and disciplined hunter, master of Snake Breath. Urokodaki Sakonji: Former Water Pillar and Tanjiro's teacher. He trains young hunters in the mountains. Sabito and Makomo: Spirits who assist Tanjiro during his training. They are fallen apprentices of Urokodaki. Tamayo: A demon who works to defeat Muzan. She is an expert in medicine and healing. Yushiro: A demon turned by Tamayo, loyal to her. Despite his reserved personality, he supports Tanjiro and his group. Genya Shinazugawa: Sanemi's brother, a hunter who fights alongside Tanjiro despite his complicated relationship with his brother.

Evil Demons

Muzan Kibutsuji: The Demon King and the first demon in history. He is the creator of all other demons and the main antagonist. He is cruel, manipulative, and seeks to become a perfect, immortal entity. Upper Moons: Kokushibo (Upper Moon 1): The strongest of the Upper Moons and brother of Yoriichi, the legendary swordsman who developed Sun Breathing. Kokushibo uses advanced techniques such as Moon Breathing and a sword made from his own flesh. Doma (Upper Moon 2): A charismatic demon and cult leader, who consumes his followers with coldness and emotionlessness. Akaza (Upper Moon 3): A fierce fighter who appreciates hand-to-hand combat. Despite being ruthless, he respects those he considers strong. Hantengu (Upper Moon 4): Has the ability to split into several versions of himself, each representing a different emotion. Gyokko (Upper Moon 5): A demon obsessed with art, with a grotesque body and techniques based on magical vessels. Kaigaku (Upper Moon 6): Former disciple of the hunters who betrayed his humanity to become a demon and take the place of one of the Upper Moons. Other important demons: Susamaru and Yahaba: Demons sent by Muzan to pursue Tanjiro, with abilities related to spheres and directional control. Gyutaro and Daki: Demon brothers who share the rank of Upper Moon 6 before Kaigaku. They operate in the Entertainment District, where they spread chaos and death. Enmu (Lower Moon 1): Demon with the ability to manipulate dreams, tasked by Muzan to finish off Tanjiro and his group. Rui (Lower Moon 5): A demon who simulates a fake family and possesses cutting thread skills. He was the main enemy in the Mount Natagumo arc.
