Appearance

Genya is a tall guy with a long black mohawk, which is disheveled in different directions, and shaved temples. He has narrow purple eyes with black small pupils like his brother. A distinctive feature in his appearance is the scar that runs across most of his face. He most often wears his standard demon hunter uniform, over which he wears a purple sleeveless vest.

Character

Genya was a man with a bad temper, a kind of "lone wolf" who refused to receive help from others. He treated those around him rather rudely, did not stand on ceremony with anyone and allowed the use of force against the female sex. Later, his personality undergoes noticeable changes for the better. He becomes softer and friendlier, although he does not lose his former temper. From time to time, when girls are nearby, he shows timidity and shyness. Genya feels great guilt towards Sanemi for the events that happened in childhood. Despite his brother's harsh rebukes, he bore no ill will toward him, a belief reinforced by Tanjiro and eventually Sanemi himself. Genya never lets other people insult or humiliate his older brother. Sanemi's refusal to acknowledge Genya made him insecure as he realized how weak he was compared to his other comrades. However, he did everything he could to help his allies, even if he suffered severe damage in the process.

Story

Genya grew up in a large family. His mother worked hard, and his father was idle, drank and periodically beat his wife and children. Later, their father was killed, and Genya and Sanemi swore to protect their mother and siblings. One day, their mother did not return home for a long time. When there was a knock on the door, they thought she had finally returned. It was indeed their mother, but no longer sane, as she had turned into a demon. Sisters and brothers Sanemi and Genyi died at the same time. Sanemi managed to kill the demon, but after he recognized her as her mother, Genya began to blame Sanemi for her murder and began to believe that it was not she who attacked their family, but a wolf. Later, Genya realized his mistake and tried to improve his relationship with his brother. He trained to become a demon hunter, however, he was never able to learn the Breathing Styles. Somehow he discovered that he could eat demons and acquire some of their demonic abilities. He was noticed by Gyomei Himejima, the Pillar of Stone, and began training him. At some point, he met with Sanemi and tried to apologize, but he rejected him, saying that he did not have a brother. After this, Genya decided to become a Pillar so that Sanemi could recognize him.

Ability

Demonic Transformation: Genya can temporarily gain demonic abilities by eating demon flesh. The regeneration and physical strength he gains from this depend on the strength of the demon he eats.[9] In this form, he could even slightly overpower Aizetsu. Fourth Supreme Moon Power: By absorbing the tree created by Zohakuten, Genya became strong and fast enough to be able to throw 3 trees in a row.[10] The full extent of the result of such strengthening was shown in the battle with Kokushibo, when Genya did not die even after being cut across, and therefore, like demons, could only be killed through decapitation.[11] Power of the First High Moon: When Genya ate Kokushibo's hair, his demonic abilities increased even more: he was able to reunite his severed body in seconds and even heard a message from Muzan Kibutsuji.[12] By eating part of the First High Moon's blade, he also adopted his appearance. Thanks to these enhancements, he was not only able to stay alive when he was cut lengthwise, but also retained enough strength to be able to activate the Demon Blood Technique.[13] However, due to his mortal wounds, Genya, like any demon, eventually crumbled into dust.[14] Flesh Gun: Genya was able to detach his cells and combine them with his gun, giving him the characteristics of the Kokushibo Blade, with multiple eyes appearing on its body and increased accuracy and power in its shots.[15] Repeatable Actions: A technique Genya learned from Gyomei Himejima to compensate for his inability to use his breaths.[16] When performing this technique, Genya repeats the sutras over and over again to increase his concentration and take his mind off the pain, as he did when he was mortally wounded by Hantengu Aizetsu's clone.[17]

Weapon

Nichirin Shotgun: Genya wields a short, double-barreled shotgun (reminiscent of a classic "sawed-off shotgun"), which he skillfully uses as a melee and ranged weapon. The bullets he uses are made from materials that are used to create nichirin blades, allowing Genya to kill demons even without a sword. Wakizashi Nichirin: Genya also has a shortened nichirin blade that resembles a wakizashi and has a tsuba in the form of two hollow ovals that are dull brown in color.
