Appearance

Kyojuro is a young, tall guy with a strong build. The most striking feature of his appearance is his bright yellow hair with long strands that sometimes turn red. He is also distinguished by thick forked eyebrows and wide open eyes. Kyojuro wears a lighter, brown version of the regular Demon Slayer uniform. Over his uniform, he wears a cloak with a flame-like pattern and ridges at the hem, which was once worn by his father Shinjuro and most likely his ancestors. On his feet, Kyojuro wears red tabi socks with yellow flames erupting from the bottom to the top, with a pair of white zōri with red straps.

Character

Kyojuro is a kind and honest person. He is very eccentric and tends not to restrain his emotions. At the same time, Kyojuro has an unwavering optimism and tremendous fortitude, instilled in him by his mother at a young age, which helps him not only find strength in difficult situations, but also support those around him. Kyojuro fulfills his duty as a Pillar and Demon Slayer with great enthusiasm. The basis of his worldview is the idea instilled by his mother in childhood that strong people are obliged to protect the weak. From his father, he inherited the discipline and inflexibility achieved during training.

Story

Kyojuro Rengoku was born into the family of the pillar of flame, Shinjuro Rengoku. As children, his father trained Kyojuro and his younger brother Senjuro in the art of swordsmanship so that they could follow in his footsteps and become demon hunters. At an unknown period of time, when Kyojuro was still young, his mother Ruka gave him the last instruction that he should protect the weak as much as possible and not use his strength for selfish purposes. After Ruka's death, Kyojuro's father began drinking and soon left his post as Pillar of Flame and stopped training his sons. Despite this, Kyojuro, using notes on breathing techniques, independently mastered the breath of flames and became a skilled swordsman. After this, he achieved the rank of Pillar of Flame, like his father and their ancestors.

Relationship: Shinjuro Rengoku

Former pillar of flame and Kyojuro's father. When Kyojuro was young, he and his brother were trained by their father, who he described as a passionate person. After the death of his wife and his departure from the Demon Slayer Corps, their relationship became distant. Even after Kyojuro replaced him as the pillar of flame, Shinjuro paid no attention to it. After Kyojuro's death, Shinjuro insulted his son in a drunken stupor and did not seem to care about his demise. Kyojuro, on the other hand, never stopped caring for his father even after he became distant, and his final message was for him to take care of himself and his body. Hearing this, Shinjuro regretted his harsh words and mourned his dead son. During the final battle against Muzan, Shinjuro joined the Demon Slayers alongside Tengen Uzui as the last line of defense protecting Kiriya Ubuyashiki, vowing not to disgrace the Rengoku family and Kyojuro's memory.

Kyojuro's mother, who died of illness when he was young. As can be seen from his memories of her, she was very strict towards him and at the same time loving and gentle towards him. She had a great influence on his philosophy as a whole, as she explained to him that he was born strong to protect the weak and never use such a gift for selfish purposes. She loved Kyojuro deeply, as she tearfully expressed gratitude that she was blessed to bear him as a child, a man born to be strong, kind, and gentle at the same time. Kyojuro cared deeply for her and loved her in return, as her words towards him gave him the final push to hold off Akazu in a final attempt to kill him despite his severe wounds. In his final moments, Kyojuro saw the spirit of his mother, who expressed that he had completed all the tasks she set and she was very proud of him, allowing him to die with a smile on her face.

Relationship: Senjuro Rengoku

Senjuro is Kyojuro's younger brother. Kyojuro loved and cared for him very much and was his younger brother's flame breathing mentor. According to Senjuro himself, he was unable to master breathing due to a lack of skill, so he gave up. However, Kyojuro was still proud of him. He was deeply saddened and depressed after learning of his brother's death.

Relationship: Tanjiro Kamado

During their first meeting at the Ubuyashiki estate, Kyojuro had animosity towards Tanjiro because he had broken the Demon Slayer Corps rule by protecting his demon sister, and so he insisted on killing Nezuko Kamado as well as seeking punishment for Tanjiro. However, as the story progresses, he begins to develop a liking for Tanjiro after meeting him again on the Infinite Train. The two hunters develop mutual respect for each other as fellow Demon Slayer Corps members, to the point that Kyojuro offers to make Tanjiro his Tsuguko. Tanjiro develops a strong admiration and closeness for Kyojuro, to the point that he calls him "Aniki" (big brother), showing their brotherly bond. Tanjiro is very impressed by Kyojuro's swordsmanship and ability to smile despite adversity. Shortly before his death, Kyojuro entrusts his will to Tanjiro. Soon Kyojuro's tsuba is given to Tanjiro by his younger brother Senjuro.

Relationship: Inosuke Hashibira

Like most people he met for the first time, Inosuke didn't particularly like Kyojuro when he first met him. However, after seeing how Kyojuro protected the people on the train and fought Akaza, he began to respect Kyojuro's strength and swordsmanship. After Kyojuro's death, Inosuke lifted Tanjiro's spirit and reminded him of the words Kyojuro shared with them before he died and the fact that the pillar believed in them.

Relationship: Nezuko Kamado

Initially, Kyojuro did not accept Nezuko and considered her a danger to people, he insisted on her death and also the execution of Tanjiro, since he violated the main rule of the Demon Slayer Corps not to protect demons. On the Endless Train, before falling asleep under the sleep technique, Kyojuro told Tanjiro that he no longer had anything against Nezuko, since Kagaya Ubuyashiki had accepted her. After the battle aboard the Infinite Train, Kyojurou expressed his gratitude to Nezuko for protecting the train's passengers. As Kyojuro was dying, he told Tanjiro that he believed in Nezuko and that he accepted her into the Demon Slayer Corps. He stated that anyone who protects people from demons is a full member of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Relationship: Mitsuri Kanroji

Kyojuro was Mitsuri's friend and mentor, and they were very close. During her training under him, Kyojuro was particularly strict in their training, but still showed patience with her. They were both gluttonous eaters and loved to snack during breaks. Mitsuri borrows her unique breathing style, "Breath of Love", from his "Breath of Flame". She is very grateful to Kyojuro for his guidance and kindness and also considers him almost like an older brother. Mitsuri was greatly shocked and saddened to learn of his death. After Kyojuro's death, she often visited his grave.

Relationship: Akaza

Kyojuro immediately began to dislike Akaza due to their opposing beliefs. High Moon believed that weak people simply interfere with others and that their existence is useless, and Kyojuro, in turn, believed that strength is not the main thing in people and that strong people should protect the weak. Akaza admired Kyojuro because he sensed how strong his fighting spirit was and suggested that he become a Demon, but Kyojuro said that he would never sacrifice the beauty of humanity for immortality.

General Abilities: As a pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kyojuro was a very strong swordsman. Even such strong demons as Akaza, the highest moon 3 and also the fourth most powerful of all demons, recognized Kyojuro's strength. Akaza was so impressed by Kyojuro's strength that he even suggested that he become a demon so that he could surpass his human limits and become stronger, something he only offered to swordsmen whose abilities he believed were perfected. Akaza also praised his fighting spirit and stated that he was approaching his "highest point", which meant that he was incredibly close to obtaining the Transparent World if he managed to awaken his Demon Slayer Mark. His father, Shinjuro Rengoku, stated that after his son abandoned what he taught him, Kyojurou trained on his own to Pillar level after reading the Flame Breathing Style textbook, a book that only had 3 volumes. Kyojuro also managed to keep up with Akaza's high-speed techniques, which the pillar noted were faster than the blink of an eye, sometimes even managing to outpace him. Inosuke Hashibira himself noted that Kyojuro was on a completely different level due to his powerful attacks and speed. Kyojuro's phenomenal speed and reflexes even surprised and impressed Akaza, who openly expressed his surprise.

Immense Strength: As a pillar who spent years perfecting his physical strength, Kyojuro possessed amazing strength, being able to swing a katana at speeds faster than the human eye can see and terrifying accuracy during combat. Kyojuro also possessed such a gripping power that he was able to hold Akaza, one of the strongest characters in the series, Supreme Moon 3, despite his solar plexus being pierced earlier, this was so absurd that Akaza expressed his disbelief and shock at power, which he described as "incredible". Tactical Intelligence: As a swordsman from the line of the Flame Pillars, Kyojuro, like his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, was trained in combat knowledge and tactics, and also had access to the records of the previous Flame Pillars, although he did not read them. During his battle with Akaza, he showed insight. For example, after he was hit by Akaza's Devastating Target: Free Style, he realized that he had to fight at close range in order to increase his chances of cutting off the demon's head. Even when the usually deductive and insightful Tanjiro Kamado did not know how to kill Enma, Kyojuro instinctively knew that no matter what form the demon took, it would always have a weak point. He also has great knowledge in using full concentration of breathing. He taught Tanjiro to use the breath to stop hemorrhages, which saved him from losing blood.

Indomitable Will: Kyojuro possessed an undaunted spirit that even impressed Akazu, the third upper moon. From childhood, he instilled in himself an indomitable will and passion that he inherited from his late mother. This was best demonstrated during his fight against Akaza. Even when a high-ranking official overwhelmed him with powerful attacks, causing serious injuries to Kyojuro, he remained steadfast and determined. After Kyojuro lost an eye and suffered internal wounds caused by Akaza's blows, he still persisted, fiercely expressing his unwavering will and determination, saying that he would protect the lives of other innocent people no matter what. Finally, when Akaza's fist pierced his solar plexus, the demon began to admire the tenacity of the pillar and even called Kyojuro "One of the strongest of this world" which triggered a memory in his soul, again reminding Kyojuro of his mother, which gave him the final push to cut off the head of the supreme moon, simultaneously stopping the demon's fist inches from his face. But, unfortunately, he was only able to cut off 3/4 of the neck of the demon, who soon escaped. Thanks to the incredible determination shown by Kyojuro, Tanjiro Kamado was motivated to become stronger so that the story of Kyojuro's death would never happen again to his loved ones and friends.

Fencing Mastery

Breath of Flame (炎ほのおの呼こ吸きゅう, Honō no kokyū?) is one of the basic breathing techniques. This breath has been inherited in the Rengoku family since ancient times and was passed on to Kyojuro from his father. The fighting style of Breath of Flame users is based on delivering the most powerful single blows, as well as their combinations. Master Swordsman: As a Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kyojuro was one of the strongest and most skilled swordsmen in the entire organization. Additionally, Kyojuro is part of the Rengoku family, which has an impressive lineage of powerful swordsmen and Flame Pillars, giving Kyojuro an advantage in developing and perfecting his swordsmanship. In his battle against the former Second Lower Moon, Hairo, Kyojuro was able to surpass the demon with a Bushido sword style, which Hairo appreciated when he was beheaded. The precise work of Kyojuro's blade was also able to slow down Enma in his fused form, giving him the opportunity to explain his plan to Tanjiro and Inosuke. His mastery of the blade is best demonstrated during his battle with Akaza, in which he was more than capable of going toe-to-toe with the Upper Moon, who had fought countless Demon Slayers and even Pillars over the last century, to the point where Akaza constantly praised Kyojuro's skill in fencing.

Breathing style

First Style: Sea of ​​Fire (壱いちノ型かた　不知火しらぬい, Ichi no kata: Shiranui?) - Kyojuro attacks his opponent at high speed and decapitates him with one or more blows, burning the enemy's flesh. This technique had enough force to almost cause an entire passenger train to derail over a short distance. Second style: Rising of the Blazing Sun (弐にノ型かた　昇のぼり炎えん天てん, Ni no kata: Nobori En Ten?) - a single blow, delivered from the bottom up. In this case, the tip of the sword describes a circle. Third Style: Blazing Universe (参さんノ型かた　氣き炎えん万ばん象しょう, San no kata: Kien Banshō?) - Kyojuro swings his sword down in an arc. Fourth style: Wave of Blinding Flame (肆しノ型かた　盛せい炎えんのうねり, Shi no kata: Sei En no Uneri?) - a single blow, struck from left to right, with the weapon describing an arc above the swordsman's head. Used to parry and counterattack at close range. Fifth Style: Flame Tiger (伍ごノ型かた　炎えん虎こ, Go no kata: Enko?) - Kyojuro unleashes a series of powerful sword strikes that take the form of a flaming tiger that attacks his enemy with great speed. Ninth style: Purgatory (玖くノ型かた　煉れん獄ごく, Ku no kata: Rengoku?) - The most powerful flame breathing technique. A devastating, sharp blow delivered by a swordsman from a high stance, this technique was enough to carve a deep imprint that scorched the ground where the blow was struck. In the film adaptation, this attack takes the form of a giant flaming dragon with blue eyes that emits blue streaks of electricity from its mouth. After Kyojuro uses this technique in the film, the environment appears to be engulfed in flames, creating a purgatory-like hellscape and a giant vortex of heat and fire after the attack.

Weapon

Standard Nichirin Katana: Kyojuro wielded a standard sized and shaped katana made from a deep reddish-orange scarlet ore with the words "Demon Destroyer" engraved on the side. His white-hilted katana also featured a flame design on each side. Tsuba Kyojuro is shaped like a flame with a red core and an orange border. He also wore a standard sword sheath, which was white and gray in color.
