Nine, also known as Tails Nine or Nine Tails is a main character in Sonic Prime. He is a citizen of New York City.

Appearance He is reminiscent of his original counterpart Tails, with the distinctive difference that he has nine tails, seven of which are mechanical tails with pincers. Nine wears a simple black outfit, consisting of a black short-sleeved shirt and black shorts. His shoes are metallic and one of his gloves is black with some metal fingertips. Nine has slightly scruffy fur on his ears and his three front locks stick up. Like Tails, he has sky blue eyes, white and yellow fur, and a short stature. Nine's seven mechanical tails hide his two biological tails and give the illusion that he has one mechanical tail.

Personality Nine is a lonely boy, preferring to work alone and stay away from people. He has a huge fondness for mechanics and technology, being able to create new complex mechanisms and even his own seven mechanical tails, which he can easily manipulate without difficulty. Nine shows resentment for his sour life in New York City under Eggman's tyranny, as well as having been a target of ridicule for being a two-tailed fox. This feeling later led him to loneliness, but at the same time motivated him to create different works with his high intellect. Because he had been intimidated by his two tails, Nine created seven of them to defend himself from everyone. Later, although he does not trust Sonic completely, he seems to become a kind of ally. Nine is usually quite misfit and somewhat introverted, due to his previous traumatic experiences he is usually always on the defensive, acting impulsively or falling into provocation and even instigating fights very easily.

Having been alone since childhood without the presence of a friend like Sonic, Nine is independent, opportunistic, and has the belief that if he doesn't solve his problems, no one else will. His attitude can be aloof, but he is dedicated to helping out if he has a hope of doing so. Due to his instability, he is prone to becoming defensive and even distressed very easily. However, such distress can lead him to make important decisions.

In the second season, Nine reveals his idealistic vision of creating an ideal world from scratch in the Nefasto, possibly a reflection of his resentment of having lived in a city as chaotic and closed as New Yugork. This ideal causes his quarrel with Sonic, as well as seeing it as a way to ensure his survival in the multiverses. Later, Nine takes a much more antagonistic attitude, even somewhat calculating and his voice becomes colder. However, Nine prefers to take charge of his plans and have his machines take care of fighting Sonic and Shadow in the Nefasto.

History Past Nine was born on West Side Island from day one, so he lived in a hostile and lonely environment without the presence of any heroes. He was constantly harassed by local bullies just for having two tails and never had any friends or family, so he moved to South Island for new opportunities, but realized that South Island was now the current New Yugork. He had a lot of knowledge of mechanics, so he created seven electronic tails to defend himself from his opponents. Since then, he lived completely isolated in his workshop under the city where he would not be found by anyone.

Present When Sonic arrived in New Yugork, Nine was out on the streets heading back to his workshop. When Sonic bursts into the house thinking it was Tails, Nine thinks he's an enemy and tries to get rid of him at all costs but ends up being rescued from a fatal fall by Sonic. At that moment the two realize that they belong to different universes, since in Nine's universe Sonic never appeared in his childhood. Sonic begins to sprout surges of energy in his sneakers which catches Nine's attention. They both head back to the workshop where Nine builds him some mechanisms so that Sonic can level this energy. Sonic decides to leave the workshop so Nine tells him it's dangerous because they could be stopped by the city security. The two end up being captured by Dr. Babble who had previously fought Sonic. Nine is treated as a hostage while Sonic is interrogated by the Chaos Syndicate. Despite Sonic trying to get Nine to cooperate with him with a plan, Nine doesn't get the hint and Sonic is put on trial by the syndicate. Later, Renegade Knuckles and Rouge appear and come to save Sonic, so Nine decides to escape with them. The group is in charge of finishing off the robots in the area and arrive at the point where the fragments of the prism were, where Sonic is sent out of the current universe of New Yugork. At this point, Nine decides to escape alone with the fragments, leaving Knuckles and Rouge alone.

Upon first meeting Sonic, Nine displays an aggressive attitude towards him, thinking him to be an enemy (since Sonic had entered his residence unannounced) and ignoring Sonic's attempts to communicate with him. He insisted on finishing him off, until Sonic saved him from a dangerous fall. When Sonic explains that he knows him from his friend in another dimension, Nine tells him that in his reality he never met a friend like Sonic who would defend him from others. Nine is often distant from Sonic due to his solitary nature, even at times not seeming to care fully about Sonic's plans. He often ignores Sonic's attempts to be his friend.

Nine argues with Sonic. When Nine becomes interested in building a new world with the pieces of the crystals, he begins to be much more cooperative with Sonic, believing that they share the same ideals. However, when Nine discovers that Sonic only wanted to rebuild his old universe, he ends up arguing with Sonic and turning his back on him in order to preserve his own existence. He believes that Sonic often makes hasty decisions without thinking about the outcome and gets angry with him for the fact that Sonic only thinks of him as a version of Tails.

In the episode "The Nefarious One", even though Nine ends up betraying Sonic, he himself feels betrayed by him and deep down seems to have considered him as a friend. Still, Nine plans to use Sonic as prismatic energy for the Nefarious One and "replaced" him with a robot version that he built to "get revenge" for the fact that Sonic only saw Tails in him. However, when Shadow takes Sonic out of the place to send him into space, Nine says "Does Shadow think he can take Sonic away from me!?", showing that deep down he doesn't like the idea of Sonic moving away from him and that he can even become somewhat possessive unintentionally, due to having lived surrounded by machines all his life.

Curiosities Nine's name means "Nine" which refers to his nine tails. This is a reference to Tails' own character concept, which is based on kitsune, foxes from Japanese mythology and folklore where these foxes protect villages and possess a variety of tails depending on their power. The fox with nine tails is the most powerful. It is unknown if his real name is still "Miles Prower" or if he has a different one.

All of his stats in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle are 9, which is a reference to his nine tails. In this same game, Nine's official art mistakenly shows her with six tails. Nine is voiced by Ashleigh Ball, who is best known for voicing Rainbow Dash and Applejack in the reboot My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Nine's nickname was left as such in the Latin dub until episode 6. After that episode it was adapted into Spanish as Nueve. Although after the premiere, the number of times he was called "Nine" increased, leaving it as "Nine".

The password to his residence is "1992", which is a reference to Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the 1992 video game that marked Tails' first appearance. Nine's eye size decreases whenever he gets angry, a visual detail only featured in this counterpart of Tails. Unlike her other counterparts, Nine possesses two biological tails that are too thin; so much so that she can hide them within her seven mechanical tails. The reason for this is unknown. Besides Rusty Rose, she is the counterpart who spends the most time with Sonic, becoming considered a main character.
