Personality Fumikage is reserved, serious, and focused, though noble and brave. While he doesn't talk much, he often ignores questions or requests he deems pointless (such as when Tenya Iida asked him not to sit at the desk), using that silence as a sort of ongoing joke. However, when he joins up with others, he becomes more sociable, helping his teammates, showing them his trust, and thanking them for their efforts. Fumikage is fond of darkness and other related concepts, considering himself a "creature of darkness" and employing archaic-sounding speeches that end up painting him as a bit creepy or dramatic. However, Fumikage is a bit insecure about his interests due to them being more on the arcane, fantastical side and thus, harder for others to understand or relate to. Despite his apparent maturity, Fumikage can be carried away by strong emotions, thus losing control of his Dark Shadow by letting himself be carried away by feelings such as anger, frustration, hatred, etc. He also knows how to admit when he makes mistakes in order to find a way to fix them. Fumikage also possesses a great deal of humility, being aware of his own limits and understanding when it's time to back off. He takes any advice he takes to heart and uses it to try and improve his Quirk and abilities, showing great determination to keep up with top heroes like Hawks. Fumikage thinks little of fame and idolatry, but remains proud enough to not tolerate others looking down on him. Fumikage is loyal and protective towards those he esteems and cares about. He is capable of going as far as risking his life to save those he loves. During the Paranormal Liberation War, Fumikage rushed to save his mentor and was willing to go toe-to-toe against Toya Todoroki, a powerful villain who is a user of a fire Quirk, which is the greatest of his kind.

Fumikage is a short young man with the head of a black bird, possibly supposed to resemble a crow. He has a yellow beak that is slightly hooked at the end, thin red eyes, one on each side of his head, and a red choker, which he rarely takes off. However, despite the appearance of his head, his body has a normal human shape, with fairly light skin. After his intern training with Hawks, Fumikage has become more muscular. His outfit consists of a black tunic but dyed a dark purple where the light hits it, which covers his entire body, only stopping halfway up his shins, and black knee-high boots. During the Joint Training Arc, it was revealed that underneath this cape he wears a dark t-shirt, wrist guards, a pair of baggy pants, similar to the ones Katsuki Bakugo wears in his hero costume, and a belt with a double buckle.

Overall Abilities: Fumikage has continually proven to be one of the strongest members of Class 1-A. Fumikage's abilities allowed him to take third place at the U.A. Sports Festival. Fumikage has incredible skill with his Quirk, using it for both offense and defense, increasing his mobility and even aiding in rescue operations. During the Sports Festival, he was able to force Momo Yaoyorozu, a recommended student, to go on the defensive and defeat her before she even had a chance to fight back. Watching this spectacle, Izuku Midoriya commented that Fumikage is one of the strongest people when it comes to one-on-one battles. He later managed to hold off Katsuki Bakugo, another of Class 1-A's strongest members, for some time despite having a Quirk-type disadvantage and Dark Shadow not being at his full potential. All Might himself acknowledged Fumikage's strength and gave advice on how the latter can improve. Shoto Todoroki was shocked by Fumikage's strength after witnessing his Dark Shadow effortlessly pulverize and defeat Moonfish, an A-rank villain who kept him and Bakugo on the defensive. Izuku stated that the entire Bakugo Escort Squad (consisting of himself, Shoto Todoroki, Katsuki Bakugo, Fumikage, and Mezo Shoji) working together, has the potential to take on someone of All Might's caliber. Fumikage's prowess was enough to attract the attention of Mr. Compress, who attempted to capture him after seeing him demolish Moonfish and Hero Hawks, the No. 3 Hero, taking Fumikage in as an intern.

As shown during the Team Training Battle between Classes 1-A and 1-B, Fumikage's abilities have improved drastically. His newly acquired speed and strength allowed him to take down Kinoko Komori and Shihai Kuroiro in a single blow. However, because Fumikage was unable to knock Kinoko unconscious, the restricted mushroom-producing heroine deployed mushrooms into his throat and lungs, effectively incapacitating him through suffocation. Tactical Intellect: Though not the most efficient academically, Fumikage has shown to have a strategic mind. He ordered Dark Shadow to protect his team's blind spot during the Cavalry Battle and grabbed one of Shoto's headbands when the opportunity arose. Using the knowledge he has of Shihai's Quirk, Fumikage was able to exploit the latter's power-reserve feature by using his black-colored cloak to trap the Hero, knowing that Shihai would instantly integrate with him.

Dark Shadow (黒影ダークシャドウ Dāku Shadō ?): Allows Fumikage to manifest an intelligent shadow monster from his body that he can freely materialize and contract. Dark Shadow's energy is limited and can be drained by bright light. When it runs out of energy, Dark Shadow will retract into Fumikage's body. The monster's personality, strength, defense, and control are all dependent on the lack of light. In bright light Dark Shadow is weaker and smaller in size, but still has considerable strength and defense and is easier to control. In complete darkness Dark Shadow is much larger, granting him much more strength and defense. He is even powerful enough to uproot and cut down multiple trees with ease. However Dark Shadow is harder to control in the dark, causing him to go on a rampage based on his own free will. As part of his training, Fumikage trained in a dark cave to increase his control over Dark Shadow. This training proved effective when Fumikage activated Dark Shadow during the night and he was still the same size as if it were daytime. Due to an encounter with Moonfish, it was revealed that besides light and darkness, there are more internal factors that influence Dark Shadow. According to Mezo, Fumikage's negative emotions (such as regret and indignation) intensify Dark Shadow, making him more rebellious and powerful as a result, though at the cost of Fumikage losing control; Fumikage himself even stated that his anger causes him to lose control of Dark Shadow. Dark Shadow also appears to have to eat, as he took some food when Class 1-A celebrated Christmas.

Super moves Black Fallen Angel (黒くろの堕だ天てん使し Kuro no Datenshi ?): With this technique, Fumikage wraps Dark Shadow in his cape and Dark Shadow holds him while he floats in the air. In this way, Fumikage gains better mobility in space and more attack and defense options. Black Ankh (深淵闇躯ブラックアンク Burakkuanku ?): Dark Shadow covers Fumikage thus giving him more opportunities in a hand-to-hand fight and improving his physical abilities. Dusk Piercing Claws (宵闇よりし穿つ爪 Yoiyami Yorishi Ugatsu Tsume ?): Fumikage fires the Dark Shadow claw that attacks at high speed. Dark Arms Melancholy (黒くろき腕かいなの暗あん々あん裏り Kuroki Kaina no An'anri ?): Fumikage expands Dark Shadow's arms and crushes his targets with them. Black Ankh Sabbath (深淵闇躯ブラックアンク夜宴サバト Burakkuanku Sabato ?): Fumikage changes from Black Fallen Angel to Black Ankh while maintaining his momentum for a powerful blow. Ragnarök (終焉ラグナロク Ragunaroku ?): Tokoyami summons Dark Shadow in a completely dark place, unleashing all of his power in a destructive manner. Dark Shadow's power is enough to defeat some of the strongest villains in an instant. Ragnarök: Belly (終焉ラグナロク 胎たい Ragunaroku Tai ?): Like Ragnarok, Tokoyami summons Dark Shadow in a very dark area and unleashes all of his power. At that moment, Dark Shadow envelops his opponent within him, capturing them.[2]
