Persona Attributes

Eclipsa Butterfly also known as Eclipsa, the Queen of Darkness, is a former ruler and current queen of the Kingdom of Mewni, a supporting character in the series, Star vs the Forces of Evil,

physical appearance

Eclipsa has gray-purple eyes, pale skin, and dark pink spade-shaped markings on her cheeks. She wears a long, gothic-style black dress, a large black sun hat with gray and white feathers and a thorny branch, a white tie with a blue crescent moon on it, and gray opera gloves. Eclipsa also has brown lipstick and black mascara. Underneath her gloves, her hands are dark purple with purple veins sprouting outward on her arm. Without her hat in "Stranger Danger", Eclipsa's hair is waist-length. She also wears a wedding ring on her left hand. In "Sweet Dreams"; she wears pink and white pajamas with swords, a purple scarf, and white fuzzy slippers.

personality

When she was introduced in "Moon the Unshakeable" she is presented as someone calm, cool and understanding in the face of Moon's sad situation, to the latter Eclipsa did not seem so evil although over the years she would change her opinion under the influence of myths and prejudices. When she meets Star in "Stranger Danger" she is kind and even somewhat funny, which makes Star think she is a very nice lady. When Moon and the High Commission of Magic capture her, she is shown to be carefree and without any anger or bad attitude towards them. In Tough Love she shows a loving personality to her son. In "Stranger Danger", she has no ill will towards her jailers, despite her long time in the crystal captivity, and shows a carefree and fun attitude like Star. From "Sweet Dreams" onwards, she maintains her calm attitude and is more than willing to help Star, from warning her about the dangers of the castle's laundry room to rescuing her from being trapped in a different dimension. She also has a fondness for chocolate bars consuming an entire bucket of Snookers bars over the course of an afternoon. and roses, Unlike most magic users in the show, Eclipsa takes a more academic approach to magic, exploring "dark magic" for the sake of knowledge rather than malice. In particular, she encourages Star to overcome her unconscious Mewberty transformations to discover what they mean, stating that her opinion is that "all knowledge is good knowledge."

personality

Even after three centuries, Eclipsa has no regrets about abandoning her own kingdom and rightful husband, King Shastacan, for a monster. She cares deeply for her monstrous husband Globgor and is determined to discover the whereabouts of her daughter, Meteora. When she finally locates Meteora, she attempts to convince her to stop her rampage and stop Moon from killing her. But when it becomes clear that Meteora cannot be reasoned with, a heavy-hearted Eclipsa attempts to do the job herself. She is initially heartbroken when she appears to succeed, then overjoyed to learn that her attack only drove Meteora back into a baby. This sense of doing what's best for the people over what's best for her is evident again in "Surviving the Spiderbites", where she expresses a resigned willingness to sacrifice her attempts to reunite with Globgor if it means reassuring her allies. Her love for Globgor was most notably shown when, despite how dangerous Mewni was, she demanded Hekapoo's dimensional scissors in order to return and help him anyway. In "The Ponyhead Show!", Eclipsa displays a strong sense of self-pride, stating that she would rather be hated for being herself than be loved and adored for pretending to be someone else. She has also been shown to be quite impulsive at times, such as when she "negotiates" with Rhombulus in "Swimsuit", and resorts to using dark magic to achieve her goals when desperate. However, by the end of the episode, she realizes that this aspect of her personality only further deepens the huge degree of distrust people have towards her, and strives to change her ways. Eclipsa also demonstrates a great willingness to forgive others; she forgave Moon for his hit in "Pizza Party", and also reconciles with the ghost of her mother Solaria in "Cleaved".

history

She was born in Mewni, being the daughter of Queen Solaria Butterfly, unlike her mother who hated monsters, the young Eclipsa lived more and harbored sympathy for the monsters of Mewni, than with her own people and in one of those encounters she met and fell in love with Globgor, the leader of the monsters, where they both fell in love. During her lifetime upon inheriting the Wand, Eclipsa developed a number of spells that were (or would later come to be) associated with dark magic, including the All-Seeing Eye. These spells were recorded within the pages of the Wand's Magical Instruction Book, and her entire chapter was sealed behind a skull-shaped lock (which could only be opened by Glossaryck) to prevent others from reading them. She is also the only queen to never question Glossaryck's teaching methods, and had a high affinity for magic compared to other queens, rivaled only by Star herself. After a meeting in search of a peace agreement, Solaria saw her daughter and Globgor together, thinking that it was an attack against her daughter, she separated them and prohibited their approach, but she could never prevent them from losing contact as they continued writing to each other for years. Solaria would try to unite Eclipsa with Shastacan, from the kingdom of the Picaraña as a way to unite both kingdoms through a marriage alliance and, thus, gain ground in the war with the monsters. But a short time later the queen would die in battle and would leave established in her will the marriage between Shastacan and Eclipsa.

history

In the end Eclipsa is queen before she came of age, a few years later she married Shastacan due to her mother's will and although she did not love him, she treated him better than he deserved, but Shastacan was cold and indifferent who saw her marriage only for status, but Eclipsa could not stand his mistreatment any longer and ran away from the kingdom to meet her true love Globgor in the Temple of Monsters. There, both lovers built their home and due to Eclipsa's influence, Globgor stopped being feared to the point of becoming a vegetarian to show the Mewmans that he was no longer a devourer, and his happiness increased when his daughter Meteora was born, turning them into a happy family. Sadly, their happiness was short-lived because a furious Shastacan, together with the High Commission of Magic, took their daughter from them to give her to St Olga. Globgor, in revenge, devoured Shastacan and then imprisoned him by Rhombulus in a crystal. Eclipsa was next, where she remained a prisoner for almost 300 years until today. Centuries later, a young Moon visits Eclipsa to ask for help ending the war she had with Toffee, since he and many of his men could regenerate. The former queen agrees and forms a pact. Eclipsa will explain the spell to her on the condition that when her enemy dies, she will be released from her prison, and then she is crystallized again. Star vs the Forces of Evil 26 years after that meeting, in the "Toffee" ep, Moon's daughter, Star Butterfly, kills Toffee, fulfilling the pact. Moon immediately goes to Eclipsa's prison to make sure she hasn't escaped. When she sees that this didn't happen, she leaves very calmly, but suddenly part of the glass that encloses Eclipsa begins to crack. The Queen of Darkness is about to break free.

history

Eclipsa managed to break free soon after and returns to Butterfly Castle in the episode "Stranger Danger". Star talked to her for a few minutes and found her to be a very nice lady even though others don't see it that way. Star must go through many tests to detect if Eclipsa managed to corrupt her while the latter was locked in a dungeon. Star questioned her crystallization a lot and the High Commission of Magic for their actions against her. The commission did not know how to justify her crystallization based solely on the stereotype of having fallen in love with a monster and defying the natural order of things with her Dark Magic. The High Commission of Magic and Queen Moon Butterfly immediately agreed to re-crystallize her, but Star, who managed to talk to her, noticed the injustice of this situation and asked for her to be put on trial, which Moon Butterfly had to accept. In the next episodes, she will be put on trial for having abandoned her kingdom. Star talked to her again in her tower and they ended up seeing the palace's rose garden together. In "Sweet Dreams", Eclipsa saves Marco and Star from getting lost in the vacuum of space. When Marco reacts to her presence with hostility, Eclipsa mocks his karate stance. After Star banishes Marco from her room, she and Eclipsa talk and the latter reveals that she managed to escape imprisonment in her tower through the use of secret passages she used when she was younger. Eclipsa encourages Star to follow the dreams she's had and see where they lead her, telling her "all knowledge is good knowledge". Eclipsa then returns to her tower through a passageway in Star's wall. In "Monster Bash", it is revealed that Eclipsa is the mother of Meteora Butterfly, the true identity of Ms. Heinous.

history

In "Total Eclipsa the Moon" she takes a trip to the royal archives where she discovers, along with Moon Butterfly, that her daughter's name was removed and replaced by Festivia Butterfly, leaving it a mystery what happened to her real daughter, Meteora Butterfly. Finally in "Butterfly Trap" the High Commission of Magic organizes a trial against her for her crimes where she confesses to having abandoned her husband, King Shastacan and having run away with a monster, having written a chapter of spells in the book, although she did not consider them evil or forbidden and not being sorry for what she did. Eclipsa was found of crimes against Mewmanism but the High Commission of Magic was guilty of falsifying the history of Mewni and omitting the truth about the Butterflies for generations. In "Tough Love", Eclipsa works alongside Moon to find Meteora as she causes destruction across Mewni. Upon being reunited with her daughter, Eclipsa attempts to reason with her using tough love. When that fails, Moon attempts to forcibly capture and incapacitate Meteora, but Eclipsa intervenes, resulting in an attack that leaves Moon in a vulnerable state and forces her to escape through a portal. In "Divide", Eclipsa informs Star of everything that happened during the events of "Tough Love", and Star confines her to her chambers to prevent her from intervening during the upcoming battle against Meteora. In the episode "Conquer", Eclipsa escapes from her confinement and is forced to take up the royal wand again in order to defeat Meteora once and for all. After Meteora reverts back to a baby, Star gives her the wand, making her the owner and bearer of the throne of Mewni. Eclipsa takes it and leaves Mewni to be with her husband Globgor again.

history

In "Butterfly Follies", Eclipsa becomes the new queen of Mewni after Star gives up the throne to her. As queen, she forbids the unjust imprisonment and mistreatment of monsters. She also has the monsters help her free Globgor from his crystal prison, but to no avail. In "Moon Remembers", she is overjoyed to see Queen Moon safe, and the two greet each other on friendly terms, bonding over guitar playing and conversation at the royal dinner. In "Swim Suit", she engages in a battle with Rhombulus after he refused to release Globgor from his crystal prison and lashes out with various dark magic spells, including a body-swapping spell in hopes of freeing her husband. Star eventually persuades her to stop and shows remorse for her actions. In "Yada Yada Berries", Eclipsa learns of a plot by someone in the kingdom to turn her into stone, and that her popularity among the Mewmans (and even some monsters) is very low. Despite this, she seeks to change public opinion of herself, attending Pony Head's talk show "The Ponyhead Show" to do so. In "Surviving the Spiderbites", she arranges a temple meeting with the Spiderbite royal family, eventually winning their favor, and reveals that she wants to restore the Magical Book of Spells so that she can learn more advanced spells. In "Curse of the Blood Moon", Marco talks to Eclipsa about his feelings for Star. In "The Knight Shift", Eclipsa holds a naming ceremony for several new Knights of Mewni, including Marco. In "Queen-Napped", she is part of an elaborate social media hoax carried out by Pony Head and her sisters to boost their popularity. In "Junkin' Janna", Eclipsa meets with the Magic High Commission to discuss a possible new threat to Mewni.

history

In "The Monster and the Queen," Eclipsa uses her magic to enter Globgor's mind and spend time with him. When she learns that the kingdom is still afraid of him, she chooses to remain trapped in the crystal until they accept him. In "Cornonation", Eclipsa's official queen coronation takes place, but the festivities are cut short by Globgor's sudden release from his crystal prison, and the Magic High Commission immediately grows suspicious of her. After Globgor flees to try and protect his family and Star convinces him to return, it is revealed that Rhombulus freed Globgor to prove that he is nothing more than a monster. However, as the Mewmans witness the love that Globgor has for his wife and daughter, the Mewmans come to accept him, allowing Eclipsa to have her family together again. In "Ready, Aim, Fire", Eclipsa is defending the Monster Temple when it is suddenly attacked by Mina Loveberry in a giant suit of armor. In "The Right Way", Eclipsa uses the Total Annihilation spell to destroy Mina's armor. However, it is revealed that it was not Mina inside the armor and that Mina was heading to the Monster Temple with an entire army of newly created Solarian Warriors. In "Here to Help", Eclipsa confronts Moon when it is also revealed that Moon conspired with Mina to remove Eclipsa from power. When Moon demands that Eclipsa step down as queen and leave Mewni with her family in exchange for calling off Mina's attack, Eclipsa reluctantly agrees. However, Mina betrays Moon and carries out her plan to wipe out all monsters, causing Eclipsa to flee with Star, Marco, Moon, and Meteora (with help from Hekapoo) in "Pizza Party".

history

In "The Tavern at the End of the Multiverse", Eclipsa comforts Moon after Star disowns her for her actions and offers to play pool with her, holding no grudge against Moon's actions. In "Cleaved", Eclipsa helps Star destroy all magic. While doing this, the ghosts of the previous queens appear before them, including their mother, Queen Solaria. While they initially avoided her, after achieving their goal, the two have a brief heartfelt conversation and seemingly reconcile when Solaria accepts Meteora. After Globgor is healed from his injuries and the family is together again, Eclipsa decides to enroll Meteora in kindergarten.

According to Baby, Eclipsa possessed the greatest magical potential of all the queens until Star. Equipment Magic Wand: Eclipsa carried the Royal Magic Wand, which took the form of an umbrella. Despite the great power she displayed when using it, Eclipsa never learned to use magic without the wand.

relations

Globgor Meteora Butterfly Shastacan Shastacan was Eclipsa's first husband, whom she married in an arranged marriage. Eclipsa treated him well even though she did not love him. Shastacan had no respect for his wife's personal space as he had a habit of reading Eclipsa's spell book, which she also used as a diary. Over time Shastacan fell in love with Eclipsa and wanted to have children with her, to which she refused and confessed that she was already in a relationship with Globgor but Shastacan simply mocked her. When Meteora, the daughter Eclipsa had with Globgor, arrived at Butterfly Castle, Shastacan gave her up for adoption because she was half monster, not caring what Eclipsa thought, which resulted in Globgor eating Shastacan. Eclipsa doesn't seem to have any problem with the fact that Globgor ate her first husband. Star Butterfly Star and Eclipsa have shown to have a lot in common, from the moment Star met Eclipsa she thought she was a nice lady and considered the treatment she received unfair. Star, from the moment she found out that the lady she had met was Eclipsa, decided to distrust her, although later in episodes like Lint Catcher and Sweet Dreams she would ask her for advice which she would follow. Star is currently the only one who notices the injustices Eclipsa goes through and asks for fair treatment for her, even on one occasion Eclipsa saved Star from being stranded in the void. Marco Diaz From the moment he met her, Marco distrusted her at all times, even calling her an evil queen and trying to keep her away from Star to protect her. Eclipsa took it as a joke and used Marco's attack as if it were a dance, so far Eclipsa and Marco have not met again.

relations

Moon Butterfly When Moon was young, she was forced to turn to Eclipsa for help in defeating Toffee, and Eclipsa readily agreed in exchange for her freedom. Moon and Eclipsa had a talk in which the latter was moved and understanding of the current queen's plight. When Eclipsa returned to her eternal prison, she said that she didn't seem so evil to her. Currently, Moon can't get the idea out of her head that Eclipsa is an evil queen who defied the natural order of things and abandoned her kingdom. She decided that Eclipsa should return to her crystal prison, but thanks to Star she understood that she deserved a fair trial. Moon locked Eclipsa in the Rose Tower and only lets her out for air with a dragon chain while she awaits her trial. High Commission of Magic The High Commission of Magic has a bias towards Eclipsa and believes that she can corrupt everything with her evilness. When Star asked them about their motives, they were unable to answer why they considered her evil, only managing to mention that she was a pescatarian, that she once dipped her sandwich in her tea after biting into it and that she disliked Rhombulos but they could not justify any bad things she had caused. When Eclipsa fled Mewni, Rhombulos crystallized her before she could do anything bad, a symbol that she was unfairly crystallized just for running away with her love. Glossaryck In the episode "Book of Enchantment", Glossaryck mentioned that the only queen who let him act as he wished was Eclipsa. Since Eclipsa's return, Glossaryck, who has not yet returned to normal, has shown great attachment to her like a loyal pet to its owner, being happy to see her and going with her when she runs away.
