Persona Attributes
Yamato (ヤマト, Yamato?), also known as Princess Oni (鬼姫おにひめ, Onihime?)[2][3] is the daughter of the former Emperor Kaidou.[8] Trained from a young age to be Kaidou's heir, Yamato instead developed a deep admiration for the samurai Kozuki Oden. Following his death, Yamato decided to "become" Oden, impersonating him and adopting his mannerisms.[7] After meeting Monkey D. Luffy, he joined the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance in order to defeat the Beasts Pirates and escape Onigashima.
appearance
Yamato is tall, almost twice as tall as Luffy, but not as tall as Kaidou. She has long white hair that is tied between orange sticks into a ponytail at the back, and whose color fades into an aqua green and then blue hue as it progresses, ending in rectangular locks similar to Kaidou's. Yamato also has large orange eyes with prominent eyelashes, wears gold earrings on both of her ears, and has red horns. As for clothing, she wears a pair of red hakama pants and sandals, and like Oden, wears a large purple and white nio-daisuki behind her back. Yamato's current attire is a sleeveless white garment with a diamond-shaped design on both sides and an indigo-patterned bottom half. This garment was originally a kimono with long, white sleeves, but they were later torn off, leaving the garment sleeveless and making it more form-fitting. Additionally, while in costume, she also wore a hannya mask, which had a blue wig with an extremely long, wild mane attached to the top and a long blue goatee attached to the bottom.[10] About four years ago, Yamato wore a similar outfit with long sleeves, but with different symbols on the chest area. The symbols resemble an oden skewer. At the age of eight, Yamato's outfit was almost identical to that of today, except with a slightly different mask with shorter horns and beard and without the nio-daisuki.[11] In the manga, his outfit lacked the diamond-shaped design.[9]
personality
Yamato greatly admires the legendary samurai Kozuki Oden above all else, to the point of emulating every aspect of him. She has referred to herself as Oden on multiple occasions and has even emulated his gender, referring to herself as "Kaidou's son" due to Oden being a man. [7] Though she was initially hesitant about introducing herself as Oden,[12] Yamato has become more forthright about this identity over time, even proclaiming herself as such to Oden's son Momonosuke, much to the boy's horror. [13] Though she has fully embraced this identity, Yamato has not let go of her original persona, referring to Yamato as her "other name". [11] Yamato does not seem to like people getting her name wrong, as she was quick to correct Luffy when he referred to her by a nickname. [14]
personality
After reading of the great deeds documented by Oden in his logbook, which she considers her "bible", Yamato dreams of leaving the confines of Wano Country and setting sail with the Straw Hat Pirates, much like Oden did with the Whitebeard Pirates and Roger Pirates decades ago. [15] Yamato also desires to fulfill Oden's goals, namely opening Wano's borders, in direct defiance of her father's wishes for the country. [7] Yamato has shown to have great willpower, having put up considerable resistance to Kaidou's imprisonment despite not having fully broken free. Though she initially appeared to be more subservient to him, her sparring with Ace led to her destroying Kaidou's dragon statue in an act of defiance that has since led to more outright rebellion. [16] Yamato has engaged in combat with her father on numerous occasions, and has openly expressed her opposition and defiance to his plans for her, accompanied by insults. When the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance invaded Onigashima, Yamato was immediately willing to aid them and had no qualms about attacking her father's crew members,[10] making her intentions and positioning clear when confronted by them.[17] Yamato is also willing to go to any lengths to achieve her goals, having basically kidnapped Luffy in order to get a word in with him and continuing this tactic even after Luffy responded by attacking her.[7]
personality
Yamato is more than willing to risk her physical safety and life to protect the people she cares about, as she believes that Oden would never abandon a comrade in danger. She staunchly withstood a barrage of powerful artillery strikes by the Armored Division to protect Momonosuke,[18] and later single-handedly confronted Kaidou to keep him occupied until Luffy returned, despite knowing that she was no match for him.[15] However, Yamato also enjoys participating in combat; despite her plan to split up with Momonosuke being a decoy ploy to fool the Beasts Pirates, Momonosuke and Shinobu observed that Yamato seemed to be primarily interested in going off to fight.[19]
relations
Kaidou Yamato and her father Kaidou have a strained relationship, as Yamato idolizes Kaidou's enemy Kozuki Oden. When Yamato would tell Kaidou that he wanted to be Oden, Kaidou would respond by beating him up. However, Yamato has emulated Oden for the past twenty years to the point of presenting herself as a man to Luffy, and although Kaidou disapproves of her idolizing him, he refers to Yamato as his son. [7] Kaidou has been extremely cruel to Yamato since childhood, beating her and keeping her imprisoned in Onigashima since she was eight years old. He even placed explosive handcuffs on her to prevent her from leaving. [5] After being freed from her handcuffs, Yamato decided to disown him, as Kaidou was willing to kill her. [14] Kaidou's overall view towards his daughter Yamato is unknown, as he has called her an "idiot", despite also wishing for her to participate in his party during the Fire Festival and have her replace Orochi as shogun, both of which Yamato completely refuses. [5] Yamato decided to sever ties with Kaidou, starting by calling him by his name instead of "father" and being determined to face him in combat. [20] Beasts Pirates As Kaidou's daughter, most of the Beasts Pirates showed her great respect, and were greatly in fear of her strength, though most were perplexed by Yamato's statements as "Kozuki Oden". Despite this, they openly followed all of Kaidou's orders to restrict and monitor Yamato for the past twenty years, and after she officially cut ties with Kaidou, Yamato openly attacked each and every member of the crew. After Yamato's rebellion of the crew became apparent, they were ordered to immediately fight her, officially cementing them as enemies.
relations
Samurai Yamato was imprisoned along with Shimotsuki Ushimaru and two other samurai by Kaidou twenty years ago to kill each other for food after the four were severely malnourished. However, Ushimaru and the others allowed her to eat out of empathy for her plight, as well as helping her to get a hold of Oden's logbook. The three samurai eventually decided to sacrifice themselves to allow Yamato to live, actions she still remembers to this day.[3] Monkey D. Luffy After failing to set sail with Ace, Yamato eagerly waited for her brother, Monkey D. Luffy, to arrive at Onigashima. [5] She trusted Luffy enough to request his help in achieving Oden's dream of opening Wano's borders, [7] and told him that Kaidou was her father and then expressed her wish to be freed from Kaidou and the intention to leave the country to go with Luffy's crew to explore the sea like Oden did. Thus, after Luffy removed the explosive handcuffs that Kaidou had used to keep her from leaving the island, the two decided that they would fight Kaidou together. [5] Their trust has slowly grown and Luffy even relied on Yamato to help them protect Momonosuke. [12] Luffy refers to Yamato as Yama-o (ヤマ男, Yama-o?), similar to the nicknames she uses for Trafalgar Law, Bartolomeo, and Eustass Kid. She appears to not understand Luffy's use of nicknames, as evidenced by her attempting to correct Luffy. [14] When fighting Kaidou, Yamato outright told him that Kaidou would lose to Luffy, believing that he would return, calling him "the one Oden was waiting for", and that after that, Yamato would set sail with Luffy and the Straw Hats. [15]
relations
Portgas D. Ace Yamato met the pirate Ace a few years ago and initially considered him an enemy. The two became friends, however, after Ace recognized that Kaidou was holding Yamato captive. While drinking sake together, they talked about the current generation of pirates and Ace's little brother, Luffy. Yamato would have liked to set sail from Wano with the Spade Pirates, but she was held prisoner on Onigashima, chained with explosive handcuffs.[5][16] However, Yamato created a vivre card for Ace so that they could meet again. Yamato held Ace in high regard and believed that he would be the leader of the next generation of pirates, until his untimely death at Marineford two years ago.[21] This is also evidenced in the conversation with Luffy in which Yamato fondly stated that Luffy reminded him of Ace and that although it was not possible to set sail with Ace, it would be possible to leave with Luffy since they were brothers.[7] Kozuki Momonosuke Yamato initially believed that Momonosuke had died twenty years ago in Oden Castle.[14] Yamato attempted to save him from Kaidou at the time, but was unable to do anything.[11] Yamato believes that Momonosuke is important to the "dawn of the world".[18] Upon meeting Momonosuke in the present, Yamato referred to him as "my son" due to him assuming the identity of Kozuki Oden,[17] but Momonosuke was confused by her claim to be Oden and initially distrusted her.[12] However, after seeing Yamato confront Sasaki and his Armored Division to protect him and Shinobu, they recognized Yamato as an ally.[11] Momonosuke was later shocked to hear that Yamato was Kaidou's daughter, but did not hold it against her.[16]
skills and powers
Yamato held a certain authority, as Black Maria referred to her as "young master". Black Maria also noted that bringing Yamato back to Kaidou's fortress would be a difficult task. [8] From a young age, Yamato has shown great strength, having defeated several of Kaidou's subordinates. Another testament to her strength is being able to go toe-to-toe with Portgas D. Ace before he had yet to consume his Devil Fruit, however the greatest display of her power is being able to fight her father and cause him some minor injuries. Physical abilities She is shown to have enormous physical strength, as she was able to knock out Ulti with a single blow from her transformed mace. Due to her large size, she is able to easily lift Luffy up and grab him with just one arm while running. Yamato is quite fast, being able to dash forward with blinding speed to attack her targets, as well as escape from the pursuing members of the Beasts Pirates. [10] Yamato also possesses great stamina, easily withstanding explosions and direct slashes, ending up with only superficial bruises and cuts. [11] As a child, Yamato was able to withstand the beatings her father gave her and managed to go without eating for a while. Devil Fruit Main article: Inu Inu fruit: Okuchi no Makami model Yamato consumed the Inu Inu no Mi: Okuchi no Makami Model, a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows her to transform into a Divine Wolf, as well as a hybrid between a human and that animal. According to Kaidou, this beast is a "guardian deity of Wano Country." Yamato consumed this fruit simply out of hunger even though it was not intended for her to eat.
skills and powers
As a Zoan, this fruit greatly enhances Yamato's physical abilities. She was able to fight almost on equal terms with her father, Kaidou, an Emperor of the Sea, while the latter was in his extremely powerful human-dragon form. Furthermore, being a carnivorous animal, this animal transformation grants her a heightened predatory instinct, as well as equipping her with fangs and claws that are suited for combat. Being a mythical zoan, this fruit grants special powers that a normal wolf does not possess. Yamato is able to release a powerful blast from his mouth that can evenly clash with and counter his father's fire breath.[22] Haki Main article: Haki Yamato can use all three types of Haki,[2][3] utilizing advanced techniques of two of them.[11][3] Kenbunshoku haki Main article: Kenbunshoku haki Yamato can use Kenbunshoku Haki, but its level of usage is unknown.[2] Busoshoku haki Main article: Busoshoku Haki Yamato is capable of using Busoshoku Haki, as demonstrated by imbuing his hand and kanabo with it as they prepare to attack Hatcha, resulting in a lightning-like effect. Yamato can use this Haki at an advanced level, being able to project it a great distance forward and strike distant opponents with tremendous force with a single strike of the kanabo.[11][18] Haoshoku haki Main article: Haoshoku haki Yamato is able to use Haoshoku Haki, having first awakened it twenty years ago. As an adult, Yamato demonstrated her advanced application of the Haoshoku Haki infusion: something that only a select few can do. She often emits a jet of black lightning from her kanabo, as shown when performing Raimei Hakke and Shinsoku Hakujaku.[3]
skills and powers
Weapons Main article: Takeru Yamato wields a giant kanabo named Takeru, closely resembling Kaidou's Hassaikai, albeit studded and thinner, while Kaidou's is spiked and slightly thicker. Along with its immense strength, the kanabo can deal tremendous damage to objects and opponents with a single blow,[10] and with Haki, it can be used to perform ranged attacks that can even resemble energy blasts.[18] In addition to the kanabo being a powerful and blunt weapon, Yamato has masterful technique with it, being able to move it to counter Luffy's quick attacks with little effort.
history
Past Admiring the legendary samurai As a child, Yamato told Kaidou of her personal wish to become the great samurai Kozuki Oden, which displeased her father, who beat Yamato up afterward. Yamato later attended Oden's execution during the Legendary Hour twenty years ago, becoming emotional over Shinobu's speech and grieving the death of her idol. [9][11] After the execution, Yamato rushed to Oden's castle to save Momonosuke, but could only watch as Kaidou threatened the boy. [5] Despite being angry and saddened by Oden's death at the hands of Kaidou and Orochi, Yamato felt a surge of willpower, causing her to head towards Oden's castle in Kuri. Arriving late enough for the attack to have ended, Yamato found Oden's logbook stranded.[7] Yamato then began to make herself known as Oden, causing commotion and chaos in Onigashima for a week. Eventually becoming very hungry, the rank and file managed to bind her with chains, but she accidentally used Haoshoku Haki against her captors, which Kaidou was impressed to see. Seeing his daughter's insistence on impersonating his enemy, he decided to lock her in a cave for a month with three samurai to kill each other for a ration of food. Frightened by this and thinking that they would resent her for being the daughter of Oden's murderer, Yamato was surprised to see that they let her eat. Greatly impressed by her willpower, the four began to bond, reading Oden's notebook together. After ten days, Yamato claimed that she would fight in the future battle against Kaidou, at which the samurai destroyed the cave and escaped to allow her to live to see it. [3]
history
At some point after that, Kaidou fitted Yamato with explosive shackles containing sea stone[2] to prevent any chance of escaping Onigashima.[5] Meeting Ace Sometime between two and five years ago, Kaidou and his top subordinates were off Onigashima on an expedition. During that time, Yamato met the pirate Portgas D. Ace when he came to the island to kill Kaidou. After Ace damaged Kaidou's castle, Yamato decided to fight him out of boredom. During the fight, Yamato broke the dragon statue at the island's entrance to show his disdain for Kaidou. Ace left a mark on the statue and took responsibility for breaking it. Yamato and Ace subsequently met and became friends. Yamato had expressed a desire to set sail with Ace and his crew but was prevented from doing so by the explosive shackles that threatened to explode if Yamato left the island. However, after a while, Yamato decided to wait for Monkey D. Luffy to arrive at Onigashima.[7][16] At some point, Kaidou came into possession of the Inu Inu no Mi: Okuchi no Makami model and Yamato, being hungry, consumed it, not knowing that it was a Devil Fruit, thus accidentally obtaining its powers.[23]
history
Wano Country Arc During the Fire Festival celebrations on Onigashima, Yamato suddenly disappeared from Kaidou's fortress. [8] She ended up finding Luffy fighting Ulti near the main entrance of the fortress, and used her kanabo to defeat Ulti with a single blow. She then picked Luffy up and ran away when the Beasts Pirates began to pursue them, and presented herself to Luffy. [10] Despite showing no hostility towards him, Luffy attacked her several times demanding to know what she wanted from him, managing to convince him to talk to her in secret. When they met on the false ceiling of the mansion, Yamato revealed herself to be a fervent follower of Oden, and after showing the young pirate her true face, she claimed to want to help him open Wano Country and to have met Ace. [7] During her conversation with him, Yamato revealed to Luffy not only why she had never left Onigashima (despite wanting to) but also her desire to want to board his ship. When Yamato heard that Kaidou planned to make her the next shogun of Wano, she immediately refused. However, as they listened to Kaidou's speech, they fell to the floor of the stage when the roof collapsed.[5] While fighting the Beasts Pirates, Luffy informed Yamato that Momonosuke and his retainers were still alive. Luffy then removed the handcuffs from her and threw them away before they detonated and caused a large explosion, which sent them flying into the main stage. Realizing that Kaidou was actually out to kill her, Yamato disowned her father. [14] When she and Luffy arrived at the main stage, Yamato confronted Ulti again. When one of the Beasts Pirates reported that Kaidou had been attacked by the Scabbards, Yamato made it clear that she is not supporting her father and is also willing to allow him to die. [17]
history
After Momonosuke was freed from the crucifix, Luffy asked Yamato to help Shinobu protect him. Upon meeting Shinobu and Momonosuke, Yamato exclaimed that as "Oden", it is his duty to help his "son",[12] unintentionally scaring both Shinobu and Momonosuke and causing them to run away instead of accepting his help.[13] Yamato ran after the two for a while until they were attacked by Sasaki's platoon. After Shinobu was injured, Yamato stepped in to protect them,[24] taking the brunt of the blasts and slashes, and then sending one of Sasaki's men crashing into a wall.[11] Sasaki's squad continued to injure Yamato with their gunfire, and Sasaki prepared to intervene as Yamato defeated some of them. In response, Yamato activated a transformation (apparently a Zoan-type fruit ability), but was suddenly interrupted by the arrival of Hatcha chasing General Franky. Hatcha slammed his club into the ground, causing it to fall and sending Yamato, Shinobu, and Momonosuke plummeting into the void. Yamato decided to use this to escape and told Franky to take care of Sasaki and his subordinates; Yamato then unleashed a long-range upward attack with his kanabo that struck Hatcha and knocked him unconscious. After landing on the floor below, Yamato told Momonosuke that he must survive as he was the one who would lead the world to "dawn".[25] Yamato later left the dome with Momonosuke and Shinobu, but by that time, Kaidou had already raised the entire island above sea level. [26] They then hide in the storage room inside the dome. When Momonosuke asked about the discarded dragon statue, Yamato revealed that Ace once came to Onigashima to kill Kaidou. [27] Yamato told Momonosuke about the meeting with Ace and revealed that Ace was Luffy's brother and Roger's son. [16] Yamato also gave Oden's diary to Momonosuke. [21]
history
Later, a mouse wearing a mask entered the warehouse. Yamato caught the mouse and revealed that it was a cyborg from Kaidou's surveillance unit. Their location was compromised and a group of Beasts Pirates stormed the warehouse. After hiding Momonosuke in Yamato's kimono, she and Shinobu confronted the pirates to escape the situation. [28] The three of them went into the Right Hemisphere Tower,[29] where Momonosuke suddenly activated his no-name, mistaking Yamato for an eel. [30] Momonosuke returned to normal and returned to his hideout and Yamato expressed surprise at how similar his ability was to Kaidou's, saying that he wanted to become a monster like him so he could defeat him. [31] Yamato then prepared to leave with a decoy doll of Momonosuke to draw the Beasts Pirates' forces away from him and Shinobu, though the duo noted Yamato only wanted to go fight. [19] Upon reaching the third floor of the castle, Yamato was spotted by some of the pirates and easily defeated them. [32] Upon finally reaching the top of the dome, she called out to Kaidou that she had come to break her family ties with him. [20] They engaged in a bloody battle, with both employing the hybrid forms of their respective fruits. [23][22] Growing increasingly tired and outmatched by her father, Yamato challenged him to steal both her and Wano Country's freedom, both clashing with Haoshoku Haki. [3]
history
She then leapt into the air and attacked Kaidou, slamming his head into the ground. When she stood up again, she mocked his defense of Wano and reminded him that she would never escape her heritage and that the samurai would never accept her; however, Yamato dismissed the claims. When Kaidou added that she had always been alone, Yamato cried out that she had friends, but Kaidou retorted that everyone who had shown her compassion had died, such as Ace, the cave samurai, and any pirate who fed her. Disheartened, Yamato let her guard down and Kaidou knocked her to the ground and proceeded to beat her, stating that such friendships were false and that she should rule others with the fear of his power. Getting back to her feet, Yamato returned to normal and prepared to continue the fight with Kaidou. She then infused her kanabo with Haoshoku Haki and punched Kaidou again. At the same time, Luffy rode an adult Momonosuke in his dragon form onto the rooftop and punched Kaidou as well. The combined attack sent Kaidou flying, as Yamato and Luffy greeted each other. Kaidou transformed into his dragon form and faced the other dragon, who Yamato was shocked to learn was Momonosuke. As the fight continued, Yamato watched as Luffy and Kaidou faced each other, with their attacks splitting the sky. As Luffy told Momonosuke to stop Onigashima from falling on Wano, Yamato also began bleeding and clutched her head in pain as she was unable to fully block Kaidou's attack on her own. Luffy then called out to Yamato to help Momonosuke, Yamato agreed and climbed onto Momonosuke. Kaidou refused to let them go anywhere and charged at the two, while Yamato tried to encourage Momonosuke to get going, which he eventually did, with Yamato managing to block his father just as Luffy grabbed Kaidou from behind and stopped him.
history
Despite wanting to go back and help fight, Yamato quickly realized that Luffy wanted to go one-on-one with Kaidou, so with that, she and Momonosuke jumped off Onigashima. While Momonosuke cried in fear of falling, Yamato told Momonosuke to grab onto the clouds, because according to her, dragons don't actually fly; dragons create clouds to use as footholds to move through the sky. Momonosuke managed to conjure the clouds while Yamato destroyed the falling debris. It is then that she realized that Onigashima was starting to crumble because Kaidou's powers were weakening and his clouds were becoming unstable. Momonosuke tried to stop the island by himself but Yamato punched him and told him that it's useless. Yamato then told Momonosuke that if he wanted to stop the island, he would have to conjure clouds stronger than Kaidou's, something Momonosuke found impossible since he was still new to his form and didn't even know if he had the same powers as Kaidou.
history
Yamato told him that he would have to take a chance and hope for the best, because according to her, if the island fell, everyone in the Flower Capital would be crushed, and on top of that, Onigashima was filled with tons of guns and gunpowder, making it practically a giant bomb. Momonosuke panicked and considered trying to get Luffy to stop fighting Kaidou, but Yamato smacked him on the head and reminded him that Luffy was already putting everything on his shoulders with his fight and didn't need any more pressure, meaning the two of them had to figure out how to stop the island themselves. After realizing that they might not make it in time, Yamato left the rest to Momonosuke as he climbed back up to Onigashima, hoping to nullify the castle's explosives and weapons to reduce the potential number of casualties, turning into his full beast form upon reaching the top of the island, surprising the Heart Pirates members as they passed by. [34]
history
As she made her way towards the weapons depot, she witnessed Kid and Law's fight with Big Mom, watching as Kid was kicked out of the third floor,[35] but because she had to get to the depot fast, she later crashed into the Cave Chamber, right into Apoo and Drake's skirmish. She then proceeded to make her way through, dismissing Apoo's attempt at an ally while also briefly clashing with Drake. She was shocked to hear that he abandoned the Beasts Pirates as well, but shook it aside and ran into the populace again, this time pursued by Fuga, followed closely by Apoo, Drake, and the other Numbers.[36] As Kazenbo made her way down, Yamato immediately became worried that she would reach the bomb stockpiles and blow up the island, calling for Fuga's help as they made their way down.[37] Fuga and Yamato made their way towards the armory, where Rokki was sleeping while guarding the door. Following Yamato's orders, Fuga charged headlong at Rokki, knocking down the door in the process, and then held Rokki down so Yamato could continue down into the armory.[38]
history
He arrived at the armory at the same time as Kazenbo. He covered the room in a thick layer of ice, preventing the paint from igniting the explosives, and then directly attacked Kazenbo to distract him and prevent him from melting the ice. [39] Still fighting Kazenbo, Yamato was caught off guard when Law's sword pierced through Onigashima, creating a hole across the entire island. [40] While still holding Kazenbo back, Yamato was shocked to see Big Mom falling through the previously made hole and was even more shocked that no sound came from her. His shock quickly ended after he saw Big Mom step through one of the frozen bombs and accidentally cause it to explode. Yamato quickly made a wall of ice to protect herself and some of the frozen bombs, just as the explosion destroyed a bit of the lower part of Onigashima. Big Mom and most of the remaining explosives fell directly into the second hole Law created in Wano, silently creating a more massive explosion.
history
Seeing this, Yamato was approached by Momonosuke, who asked her where the explosion was coming from. After explaining the situation, Momonosuke then told her that Zunesha was approaching Wano and was getting closer. After hearing this, Yamato asked if that Zunesha was the same one mentioned in Oden's diary. Momonosuke said yes and then explained that he was once Joy Boy's partner and that he committed a crime eight hundred years ago. [41] After Momonosuke told Yamato that Zunesha had come to join the battle, Yamato told Momonosuke that it was a sign that he might be the one to lead the world to its dawn as his father predicted. Momonosuke disagreed, acknowledging that he could not die in this fight, but also told Yamato that his father Oden ripped out the most important parts of his journey with Roger from the diary. [42] He told Yamato that he was neither wise nor brave like his father and admitted that when he thought about all the potential dangers of the outside world, it made him want to keep Wano's borders closed rather than open them, asking Yamato if he was a coward for thinking that way. Unable to answer his question, Yamato sadly looked at Momonosuke.[43]
history
As the battle on the roof between Luffy and Kaidou intensified, Yamato dodged one of Kaidou's blasts which pierced Onigashima. [44] After Kaidou returned to the Life Floor following his apparent victory over Luffy, he declared that he had won and demanded that Momonosuke surrender to him. Hearing this, Momonosuke began to stop pulling on the island and decided that surrendering was the best option, until Yamato angrily pointed out that even if he did so to save everyone now, they would still suffer as Kaidou's slaves. She reminded him that this war had been going on for twenty years and that there was too much at stake to stop now, boldly telling him that she would rather they die fighting together than surrender. Momonosuke, shocked by her words, accepted the situation and prepared to join the battle. However, he was stopped at the last moment by Zunesha. Yamato watched as Momonosuke conversed with Zunesha, who informed him that Joy Boy had returned. [45] Momonosuke told Yamato that Luffy was Joy Boy, shocking Yamato in the process. [46] As she was witnessing Luffy's fight against Kaidou again, she was shocked at what Luffy was capable of in his new form. [47] As the match continued, she noticed Kaidou growing weaker and weaker, urging Momonosuke once again to create mubes more powerful than Kaidou's as Onigashima was about to fall. [48] She tried to cheer him up, but he did not trust his own powers. [49] However, once Kaidou's clouds had completely faded away Yamato had warned Momonosuke, giving him the determination he needed to make new clouds to stop Onigashima in time from crashing into the ground. [50]
history
After the battle, Yamato met up with the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates and declared that he was joining their crew. He was angered when some members of the Beasts Pirates attempted to flee. [51] While Luffy was recovering from his fight with Kaidou, Yamato spent a week fasting while waiting for Luffy to wake up. After Luffy woke up, Yamato immediately began eating at the palace. There, he mockingly commented that Momonosuke was still a child at heart and that he looked similar to Oden, placing a plate on his head. After this, he went to bathe with the men. [52] The Straw Hats and their allies then participated in the Flower Capital's celebrations with the civilians of Wano. [53] Navy Admiral Aramaki then approached the Flower Capital to try and kill Luffy, and while fighting some of the Scabbards, he stated that he would kill as many Wano residents as he wanted in order to get to the pirate. Hearing this, Yamato lunged forward and struck him with her Haki-imbued kanabo, causing damage to the admiral's body; Yamato then introduced herself as Kaidou's daughter. Momonosuke joined the fight in his dragon form, and as Ryokugyu quickly restrained him, the shogun told Yamato that he was not to fight. [54]
