plot

July 1998: Raccoon City, a prosperous community located in the midwestern area of the United States, finds its tranquility violently interrupted when a series of grisly murders take place on the outskirts of the city, in the forested perimeter area located in the Arklay Mountains. The deaths had something in common: all the victims showed signs of having been murdered in a way reminiscent of cannibalism. Given the seriousness of the events, the city council decides to send the Bravo team of the local police special force called STARS to investigate but all contact with them is lost for 24 hours. After losing contact with Bravo team, Alpha team is sent on July 24, 1998 to find Bravo team and continue the investigation. Team Alpha begins to fly over the forest of the Arklay Mountains in search of their lost teammates. After several minutes of flight, they manage to locate the downed Bravo team helicopter, although after inspecting the remains, they do not find any survivors. While searching the area, a member of the team, Joseph Frost, finds a severed human hand holding a gun. Suddenly, the Alpha team is attacked by a pack of Cerberus, deformed-looking canine-like creatures that kill Joseph Frost by attacking him by surprise, savagely mutilating his body. Brad, the pilot of the Alfa team's helicopter, is possessed by panic and takes off in horror, leaving his companions behind and, seeing themselves abandoned, they flee from the pack of mutated canines towards a nearby mansion that they believe is uninhabited (during the race to the Chris Redfield mansion loses his gun, so players do not start with it when playing using Chris). Although they find out later during the course of the video game that this mansion is the Arklay laboratory's research fund disguised as a mansion and is owned by the Spencer family.

plot

Trapped inside the mansion, the four remaining members of the Alpha team (Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Barry Burton and Albert Wesker) split up to search for a way out of the mansion as well as clues to explain the murders; Suddenly a gunshot is heard and it is at this point where the player takes control of Jill or Chris and explores the mansion with the selected character. One of the first discoveries is a member of Bravo team, Kenneth J. Sullivan who is being eaten by a zombie, as well as the corpse of Forest Speyer, Richard Aiken, Rebecca Chambers and finally Enrico Marini, captain of Bravo team who dies. killed without Chris or Jill being able to prevent it. The mansion turns out to be full of secrets. Scattered documents and computer disks suggest that a series of illegal experiments are being carried out on the property of the Umbrella Corporation, a multinational company dedicated to the development of pharmaceutical products and other derivatives. Zombies and other monsters are the results of these experiments, which have exposed humans and various animals to a dangerous viral pathogen known as the T-virus which was intentionally released by one of the corporation's founders, James Marcus. as a way to get revenge on Umbrella for his murder. After navigating a series of tunnels, roadways, and other buildings on the property, Chris and Jill discover a secret underground laboratory containing detailed records of the Umbrella Corporation's experiments. In the laboratory, Wesker reveals his identity: he is a double agent working for Umbrella who has used his subordinates as guinea pigs to test them against the biological weapons created by the T-virus and finally frees the "Tyrant T-002." ", a giant humanoid monster created through prolonged exposure to the T-virus. After the release, the Tyrant kills Wesker by piercing him with his claws.

plot

Chris/Jill apparently kill the Tyrant using firearms and then activate the self-destruct program to end the laboratory experiments. Chris/Jill then contacts the rescue helicopter, when the Tyrant reappears through the lab roof on the helicopter's landing pad and suddenly attacks them. Resistant to bullets, the Tyrant is finally killed when Brad, the helicopter pilot, throws a rocket launcher and Chris/Jill uses it to completely destroy the creature. Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine escape in the helicopter before the mansion explodes and the video game finally ends. The ending varies depending on the sequence of decisions made by the player while exploring the mansion. As long as the player escapes with two companions, the ending occurs as described above. The rescue of only one or none of his teammates changes the outcome, particularly the fate of the lab and the Tyrant.

Puzzles

This game, being the first in the franchise, contains a series of puzzles, which allow access to different areas or objects within the adventure. Solving such puzzles can allow the player to advance the story, or simply increase ammunition or learn more about the game's plot.

Finals

There are a total of eight endings in this game, the appearance of these will depend on the different decisions made within the story. It is widely known that none of these endings are considered canonical, since the canonical ending is a combination of the good endings of Jill and Chris, in which they both save each other, and both Rebecca and Barry escape with them in the helicopter. With Jill: Good Ending 1: If Barry saves us from Wesker and we free Chris from his confinement, then we will see a cinematic where the three escape in the helicopter. In this ending Wesker survives, the Tyrant will die at the hands of Jill and the mansion will explode. This is by definition the best ending of all. Good Ending 2: If Barry saves us from Wesker, but we don't free Chris, in the cinematic we will see how only Barry and Jill flee in the helicopter. In this ending we will defeat the Tyrant and Wesker will escape. Since the mansion explodes at the end, we know that Chris dies. This ending contains a small dialogue: - Jill: And your wife? - Barry: Yes, my wife and children, eh? They're always waiting for me, even, uh... today and a single star... Ugh, sorry. - Jill: Don't worry about that, I know they must be alive. Bad Ending 1: If Barry dies during the game (this happens if, after going down the rope in the room where we defeated Yawn, we do not expect Barry to return, escaping through the hidden ladder) and we save Chris, then we will see a cinematic where Jill and Chris escape in the helicopter. However, the mansion does not explode, Wesker dies and the Tyrant is free. Bad Ending 2: If Barry dies during the game and we don't save Chris, then in the cinematic we will see how only Jill escapes in the helicopter. Wesker will die, the mansion will not explode, and the Tyrant will be free. This is by definition the worst possible ending.

Finals

With Chris: Good Ending 1: If we save Rebecca from the Hunter in the mansion (she will be the one who activates the laboratory's self-destruct mechanism) and free Jill from her confinement, then we will see a cinematic where the three escape in the helicopter. In this ending Wesker survives, the Tyrant will die at the hands of Chris and the mansion will explode. This is by definition the best ending of all. Good Ending 2: If we save Rebecca from the Hunter in the mansion, but do not free Jill, in the cinematic we will see how only Chris and Rebecca flee in the helicopter. In this ending we will defeat the Tyrant and Wesker will escape. Since the mansion explodes at the end, we know Jill will be left behind. This ending contains a small dialogue: - Chris: Are you tired, Rebecca? - Rebecca: I'm sorry Chris... I am. - Chris: You did a very good job, but this case was very strange... This case was... Bad Ending 1: If we don't save Rebecca from the Hunter in the mansion, but if we save Jill, then we will see a cinematic where Jill and Chris escape in the helicopter. However, the mansion does not explode (since Rebecca did not activate the self-destruct mechanism), Wesker dies and the Tyrant is free. Bad Ending 2: If we don't save Rebecca from the Hunter in the mansion and we don't free Jill from her confinement, then in the cinematic we will see how only Chris escapes in the helicopter, smoking a cigarette and thinking about everyone who died. Wesker will die, the mansion will not explode, and the Tyrant will be free. This is by definition the worst possible ending.
