Personality

Usopp is one of the most sentimental of the Straw Hats, and cries or loses his cool in moments of emotional stress; Unlike Nami (whose cowardice is linked to just wanting to stay alive), Usopp's cowardice was the result of his fear and insecurity, especially when faced with uncertainty; Usopp is able to put aside his fear during the most desperate times: despite being afraid, he faces these fears for the sake of his friends and people he barely knows; After meeting the giants Dorry and Broggy in Little Garden, Usopp began to want to travel to Elbaf one day and meet the proud warriors there; Usopp has also, on some occasions, displayed a perverted side to him, which often goes unnoticed.

Usopp was born 19 years ago in Syrup Village as the son of Yasopp, a pirate who joined "Red-Haired" Shanks' crew and sailed away, leaving behind his wife and son. Usopp began to lie that pirates were coming. He first began this practice when he started yelling to his ill mother that pirates were coming in the hopes that it would strengthen her spirits enough to keep her alive. After his mother died, he just continued to do so because of the pain of having lost both parents one way or another, leaving himself alone. Aside from his cries of pirates attacking, he also made up stories about adventures to entertain Kaya, a young girl he met who was sick and had to stay in bed all day. The Straw Hat Pirates made a stop at Syrup Village in search of a ship. Usopp was overjoyed to have real pirates arrive and greeted them with a cleverly-conceived act designed to fool the pirates into believing he was the commander of his own huge pirate fleet. Usopp and Luffy quickly became friends, and after discovering that Kaya's butler was actually an infamous pirate intent on destroying Syrup Village, they teamed up to protect the village from pirate attack. Shortly after the events, Luffy invited Usopp to be part of his crew, soon acquiring another companion on his journey.

Kaya is a young girl who lives in the biggest mansion in Vila Syrup. She became friends with Usopp because she liked the "adventures" he said he had.

Father: Yasopp

Yasopp is Usopp's father. Usopp does not know much about his father, only that he is a member of Shanks' pirate crew. Even though Yasopp abandoned Usopp as a baby to become a pirate, he genuinely loves his son. This feeling is mutual, as Usopp loves, admires, respects and is very proud of his father for being a pirate.

Mother (Dead): Banchina

Banchina was Yasopp's wife. Banchina was the one who persuaded her husband to leave home and fulfill his dream to become a pirate. He did so and left her and their son to join Shanks twelve years ago. Banchina was proud of her husband and admired his courage.

Weapons

Usopp has outstanding marksmanship skills with his weapon of choice, the slingshot, which is the main reason he serves as the Straw Hats' sniper and is often tasked with anything that needs accuracy at ranges, most notably the Cannon. Gaon of the Thousand Sunny.

Pop Greens

After two years of training Usopp added special seeds called Pop Greens to his arsenal that instantly grow into super plants upon impact; the various types of plants have unique properties and unusual abilities, giving the plants multiple combat applications. This was first shown shown when he defeated some of the Fake Straw Hat Crew by creating a carnivorous plant that resembled a monstrous Venus flytrap with tendrils. While on Fish-Man Island, he also manages to save the crew and the Thousand Sunny from being crushed by rocks by using Pop Greens to grow seaweed as plants to trap the rocks, and when they encountered the New Fish-Man Pirates in the Palace Ryugu, he used a giant flower with a terrible smell to stop them. He maintains a small vegetable garden in Thousand Sunny to grow more Pop Greens in order to maintain a continuous supply of seeds.
