Ai Hoshino

Appearance

Ai Hoshino was a beautiful girl with purple to pink gradient eyes, with a six-pointed star in each of her eyes. She had purple hair. Her idol outfit is adorned with a pink aesthetic of varying degrees of lighter and darker shades. The outfit's design has an overall frilly appearance. She wears a black belt at her waist and other accessories throughout the design: three blue stars on her chest, a heart-shaped necklace on her neck, and a bunny-shaped hairpin with two gold stars and a pink bow.

Personality Part 1

Before becoming an idol, Ai Hoshino was a disdainful person. The environment she endured with her abusive mother caused her to think of ways to protect herself. Ai lacked any memories of ever loving or being loved, something that was proven when Ichigo Saitou sought out idols to form a group. She believed that she lacked the qualifications to become one due to these reasons, displaying a lack of faith in herself. She was quickly convinced to join when Saitou told her that lying is okay and is, in fact, a desirable trait. Thus, Ai's perspectives began to change. She convinced herself that lies are a form of love, a love that is born from the selfish desires of both sides of the spectrum. Ai searched for an object for her "love." She wanted to learn how to love by telling her fans that her deceitful lies were, in fact, love. This desire also arose when she had children, but in a different context. She never once said that she loved them, because not being truthful with them would be terrifying. Nonetheless, she was seen enjoying her time with her children, and was especially delighted when the twins put on a flashy lightstick performance, which stunned the entire site and the internet. In any case, lying allowed her to process the world around her. In these contexts, she never tried to fix things to the point of having to face the consequences of her actions. Lies were her way of expressing love, hoping that one day they would become truth. Only when she was on the verge of death did Ai realize that she truly loved her children, a genuine form of love, free of impurity and dishonesty. She felt relieved and satisfied to finally be able to experience these true feelings. Even before realizing this, Ai had begun to worry about their well-being and fret about the possibility of getting better-paying jobs to support them...

Personality Part 2

According to several characters in the series, Ai had a unique charisma capable of drawing all attention to herself when she was on stage, with Miyako Saitou and Taishi Gotanda commenting that Ai was a very rare idol and that they would probably never get to see anyone like her stating that she was a rare case among the countless idols who wish to be at the top. Ai was notoriously ambitious and risk-taking to the point of recklessness, as evidenced by her intentions to continue her idol career and secretly have children, which by all indications was extremely dangerous as it would not only jeopardize her entire career, but would have detrimental ramifications for both her company and her coworkers. As far as her private life off stage was concerned, Ai was not very social and most of her relationships were people related to the entertainment industry, proving that Ai used to be a loner. Aqua pointed out that Ai did not have any close friendships even among her fellow B-Komachi members. The seemingly bright and cheerful personality was nothing more than an act that hid her true personality. Multiple characters note that Ai had disorderly, impulsive, reckless, clumsy, antisocial, and poorly educated behavior; a direct result of growing up in an abusive environment. It would not be until she met her boyfriend that she would have a drastic change of heart, acting more cheerful, taking better care of her own appearance, acting more feminine, and reducing her self-destructive tendencies. Although such information was private, observers such as Masaya Kaburagi, and Akane Kurokawa were able to correctly deduce that she had found someone special. The latter in particular was able to observe certain character traits common among girls with teenage pregnancies, and accurately determine that she had secretly given birth.

History

Childhood Ai Hoshino was subjected to domestic violence by her mother, the only relative she knew during her childhood. Later, Ai's mother was arrested for theft when Ai was very young. Ai had to go live in an orphanage during her time in prison. However, when Ai's mother was released, she did not return to the orphanage to pick up her daughter, which is why Ai had to stay in the orphanage and grow up within its walls. When Ai turned twelve, the president of Strawberry Productions, Ichigo Saitou, discovered her and offered her a job as an idol. At the time, she thought she was unfit for the job since she never knew how to love and be loved. However, Ichigo convinced her by explaining that she didn't need to know that and that lying could work just as well. He gave her hope that she could turn that lie into truth. What followed was four successful years as the face of the popular idol group, B-Komachi. Adolescence At 16, Ai met and began a secret relationship with 15-year-old Hikaru Kamiki, which resulted in her becoming pregnant with twins. After hearing the company president say that the world wouldn't accept an idol with babies at 16, she decided to keep her children a secret from the outside world rather than get rid of them completely, as she wanted to experience what a family is like. She managed to accomplish that feat to a certain extent, and in addition to doing a fantastic job as B-Komachi's main idol, she even found success as an actress for a short time.

Death

Ai was reaching her 20s without being so clumsy as to let the cat out of the bag. However, she was unable to fool one of her followers, who eventually found out (The older twin, Aqua Hoshino speculated that it would be the result of an information leak from her biological father) and stabbed her because she was “betraying her fans” by having the baby. She, however, managed to recognize the man who stabbed her as one of the fans who regularly attended B-Komachi's fan meetings, and the fan ran off in distraught after she pointed out that she was keeping a trinket he had given her. In her dying breath, Ai spoke to her two twin children, Aqua and Ruby, about her wish to see them grow up and be with them every step of the way, now no longer a possibility. She managed to finally say that she loved them, finally being able to learn to truly love others, before she died. News of Ai's death was announced to the public, and the investigation into Ai's murder quickly ended after it was learned that Ryosuke (the fan responsible for stabbing Ai) had taken his own life.
