Penny Gadget

Penny is Inspector Gadget's niece and one of the main protagonists of the franchise. Penny secretly helps her Uncle Gadget with his missions and does all the work, but she lets him take all the credit in the end. Penny secretly does all the work during Inspector Gadget's missions, though he always takes all the credit later. She often uses her computer book and video watch to help her solve cases. It is not stated where Penny got them or why she has them in the first place, but given Penny's super intelligence, she likely built them herself. Penny wants her uncle to give her a chance to become a fellow detective and go with him on his missions, but he won't let her because she's too young. She does so, but ends up in danger and it's up to Gadget and G2 to save her. However, at the end of the film, she receives a medal from Gadget for being a junior detective. Penny now joins Gadget on his missions and is an agent-in-training. Despite being Gadget's new assistant, and Gadget now being aware of Penny's capabilities, he still pays no attention to her and does whatever he wants instead. Penny is precocious, intelligent, brave, cute, tomboyish, resourceful, and anonymously solves cases for her uncle Gadget, something he completely ignores. Penny also loves her uncle very much and looks up to him. While it is not stated whether she and/or Gadget have any other family members in the TV series, films, or spin-offs, Gadget seems to be the only family she has. Penny foils Dr. Claw's plans, leaving Gadget to take all the credit for it, even though he did nothing. This makes sense because Penny would be in serious danger if she took the credit. Penny often looks around MAD's hideout or installation site to find out what they are doing; however, she usually ends up being caught by Claw's henchmen and she either escapes on her own or calls her faithful pet dog Brain to rescue her.
