Hans is very an arrogant and self-serving person, happy to get in on a supply trafficking operation with Mr. Tissier

even if it means requisitioning without authorization and depriving the citizens of their dwindling food supply.

Hans is good friends with Otto in their first appearance, and he knew a bit of French before arriving at the Morteau farm.
