Appearance
Lorenzo, during the events of The Mysterious House, has an orange coat of fur, with the undersides of his ears and his belly being a lighter shade of orange. He sports a yellow mask that depicts a twisted smile and yellow snout. His arms, neck, and legs are dark green, similar to a robot’s mech, and he wears a purple bowtie around his neck. He also appears to have animatronic-like withering all along his limbs & torso, which, as of Return of the Pumpkin Rabbit has since been retconned to be more like Frankenstein-like stitching across his body. When his mask is removed, it's revealed that his true face resembles a rotting corpse, with charred skin and bloody gums with a sharp smile.(1979) After being burned alive prior to the events of The Return of the Pumpkin Rabbit, Lorenzo is less colorful, sporting a grungier look while being more desaturated with more ruffled fur. He no longer wears a purple bowtie with buttons or a chest gash but instead a bloody white apron with a blue striped tie and white collar, being based on Leatherface from the 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Though it is not shown correctly in the short, Lorenzo is overweight.[2] Under his mask, his face appears burnt and or rotten with a brown canine nose and silver-white teeth.(1983)
Personality
Lorenzo seems to be very polite, well-mannered, and welcoming when he first meets Duckie and Tammy. However, this is just an act as a way to lure in children. Later on, it is revealed that Lorenzo is a psychopath who murders children every year on Halloween. He is not phased by what he’s done and remains calm and polite while preparing to murder Tammy. He tells his victims that his murders are a punishment for the children misbehaving, however whether this is his actual motive or not is unclear. A clue to Lorenzo’s evil nature early on is his voice, which is very deep and unsettling, unlike any other character in The Mysterious House. In The Return of the Pumpkin Rabbit, he maintains this persona, speaking very calmly, though offputtingly, to Ralph, however quickly drops the polite act by chasing him down and gleefully murdering him. From then on it is made very apparent that Lorenzo wholeheartedly enjoys murdering children and revels in hunting them down in his home, giggling and laughing manically at each attack. He is shown being much more aggressive and animalistically deranged compared to his role in The Mysterious House, due to him not feeling the need to have to try & gain the children's trust anymore, as the protagonists & town as a whole are already aware of who he really is and what he's done by this point. He uses this to his benefit as he revels in his victims fear of him & uses it to toy with them.
Background
Lorenzo Waterman's backstory is left intentionally ambiguous, and it is left up to audience interpretation who or what he is specifically and why he is the way he is. According to Martin Paredes' interpretation, nothing caused Lorenzo or Rachel Waterman to become the evil people they turned out to be, they were just always evil. The only thing known for sure about his past prior to The Mysterious House is that he has been a serial killer since atleast the 1950s alongside his wife Rachel Waterman. At some point, Pumpkin Rabbit's face would become mutilated, possibly of his own doing.[3] It is unknown how Lorenzo and Rachel met or what prompted them to carry out their annual Halloween "hunts" though the two of them killed at least thirteen children before the main events of their debut episode.
The Mysterious House(1979)
Lorenzo would be inside of the home when Rachel would welcome two children, Tammy and Duckie. Lorenzo & Rachel would give the children candy, however Lorenzo would insist for the children to spend the night, to which the two children oblige. At some point in the night, one of the Watermans would murder Duckie while Tammy is sleeping. Following this, Lorenzo would hide in the shadows of Tammy's room, waiting for her to wake up. One of the Watermans (Likely Lorenzo) somehow creates an illusion of Duckie's voice calling out to Tammy from the basement, waking her up and leading her into a room in the house's basement with several deceased children's bodies. Lorenzo would already be there waiting for her, blaming her for wandering around the house & scolding her before removing his mask and murdering Tammy.
The Return of the Pumpkin Rabbit (1983)
It is revealed in a flashback that Tammy's Sister watched Tammy and Duckie enter the home and never return, reporting it to the police. The police, never found any of the victims' corpses, meaning nothing could be done legally, so the Townsfolk took matters into their own hands, burning Lorenzo and Rachel Waterman alive in a public lynching in the town square. Temporarily killing them both. The house would become abandoned and the Watermans would become a popular urban legend in the area, with children spreading rumours about how the couple can still be heard following their supposed deaths. At some point in the 4 years between the public lynching of the Watermans & the events of Return of the Pumpkin Rabbit, both the Watermans most likely supernaturally reincarnated as paranormal entities, with no signs in their appearance of having been burnt whatsoever. On Halloween night of 1983, Jay, Dino, Paco would break into the Watermans' abandoned house. Ralph splits from the group & waits outside, accidentally throwing his ball into the darkness behind the house. Upon losing his ball, Ralph would walk around the house to Rachel's pumpkin patch[4] where Lorenzo greets him, holding Ralph's ball. He mockingly tries baiting Ralph into coming towards him to get the ball, though Ralph, being aware of who Lorenzo is, doesn't take the bait and would start to run away until accidentally bumping into a scarecrow. Ralph looks closer to the scarecrow, seeing that the scarecrow is actually the body of Tammy tied to a wooden crucifix with a bag over her head. Ralph attempts to run but gets his foot stuck in a pumpkin, allowing Lorenzo to catch up to him while giggling manically, Lorenzo begins to claw Ralph's face off, killing him.
The Return of the Pumpkin Rabbit (1983)
Jay, while in the kitchen of the Waterman House, hears Ralph's dying screams outside and hides in a cabinet. Lorenzo, somehow creating an illusion of Ralph, attempts to persuade Jay into opening the cabinet using Ralph's voice & face. When this doesn't work, he slides the cabinet door open before trying to grab and murder Jay. Jay would close the cabinet and start quickly crawling away with Lorenzo right behind her. Lorenzo would grab Jay's leg though would be deterred by a glass being broken over his head, nearly knocking off his mask. Jay would run from Lorenzo, finding Dino hiding near the stairs of the basement holding the Waterman's photo book. Inside the book, photos of several missing children are within it, including a photo of the four children taken by Rachel. Later, Lorenzo finally enters the basement and gleefully threatens the two children as he has them cornered. Jay and Dino try to hide in the room & barricade the door, however Lorenzo gets through the barricade, from the darkness he emerges displaying the mutilated corpse of Paco to the children, before dropping it and appearing behind Dino suddenly. Lorenzo begins to claw at Dino while Jay is held back by Rachel, though she manages to break free and fully knocks off the mask of Lorenzo. Lorenzo tries to get the book back from Jay, but Jay, using her father's lighter she brought with her to trick-or-treat, burns the photo book. The bodies or spirits of the children the Watermans murdered are freed and begin to cannibalise the Watermans to death.[5] The last thing Lorenzo Waterman sees is Jay and Dino before dying. In the morning, the basement room is now completely empty save for two mannequins housing the souls of Lorenzo & Rachel Waterman, keeping them trapped.
Abilities
Supernatural Reincarnation: Despite him and his wife having been murdered they are shown to be able to seemingly come back for no apparent reason. On top of that, their physical appearances differ (Lorenzo now possessing a more animal-like head) alongside all their other apparent powers. Teleportation: It can be assumed that Lorenzo possesses some form of teleportation. For example, a few seconds after Paco's considerably disfigured corpse falls to the ground during the ending sequence, Lorenzo seemingly appears behind Dino without any form of audio cue or any other hint that he could've entered the room normally. Superhuman Strength: Lorenzo can horribly maul, disfigure, mutilate and torture his victims effortlessly with his bare hands. Cloaking/Mimicry/Disorientation: Lorenzo is somehow able to functionally turn into and mimic the appearance and voice of his victims, as visible when Lorenzo, disguised as Ralph attempts to lure Jay out of the kitchen cupboard. Soul Harvesting: The Waterman photo book is able to effectively trap and contain the souls of the Waterman's victims in some form of inert stasis. It is unknown how this is possible but when the book is eventually destroyed we see all the spirits go free. Alongside this, the Watermans use mannequins whom look like their victims to keep these spirits sealed. Though upon the release of the spirits, we see both the Watermans trapped in similar mannequins, presumably containing their souls akin to how they contained the souls of other children prior.
