In real life, the russian battleship Gangut, the lead ship of the Gangut-class dreadnoughts, was built before World War I and was the last of her class to be completed. Named after the Russian victory in the Battle of Gangut in 1714, she was completed in 1915 but wasn’t combat-ready until mid-1915. After the February Revolution in 1917, her crew joined the Bolsheviks. The ship was renamed Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya (October Revolution) in November 1917 and continued to serve in the Soviet Navy. During World War II, she defended the Gulf of Finland against the Germans and provided fire support at Leningrad, despite being hit by German aircraft bombs. Post-war, she became a training ship in 1954, was struck from the Navy List in 1956, and subsequently scrapped.
