History

In real life, The Cruiser Avrora is a Russian protected cruiser, currently preserved as a museum ship in Saint Petersburg. It was built between 1897 and 1900 by the "New Admiralty" in St. Petersburg and joined Russia's Baltic fleet in 1903. Avrora was one of three Pallada-class cruisers, built in St. Petersburg for service in the Pacific Far East. All three ships of this class served during the Russo-Japanese War. The ship played an important role in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, as it took an active part in the Revolution and fired a blank shot at the Winter Palace, which signaled the start of the Russian Revolution. After service in the Russo-Japanese War, the Avrora helped to secure the Bolshevik triumph in Petrograd. The ship's commanding officer, Captain Mikhail Nikolsky, was killed when he tried to suppress the revolt. A revolutionary committee was created on the ship, with Aleksandr Belyshev elected as captain. The Avrora is still an active, commissioned ship of the Russian navy, albeit for ceremonial purposes for now days.
