Its narrow space and poor lighting (only visible within 1.5 steps) make it difficult to navigate, and all descents conducted by D-Class personnel have reported intense feelings of fear and paranoia. Beyond the 13th floor, encounters with SCP-087-1 become more frequent, and some personnel have reported voices, sobbing, and in rare cases, tactile sensations as if something is brushing against them in the dark.

"SCP-087 is a flight of stairs with unlit landings. Each flight of stairs descends at a 38-degree angle and has 13 steps, before reaching a semicircular landing approximately 3 meters in diameter. The successive descending flight is located at 180 degrees to the platform of each floor. SCP-087's design limits the subject to a visual range of approximately 1.5 stories. A light source is required for anyone exploring SCP-087, as there are no light fixtures or windows within. Light sources of greater than 75 watts have proven ineffective, as SCP-087 appears to absorb excessive light. Subject reporting and audio recordings confirm distress vocalizations from what is presumed to be a child between █ and ██ years of age. The source of the distress calls is estimated to be approximately 200 meters below ground level. the initial platform.
