Caesar Clown

Also known as Master (マスター, Masutā?, lit. "Master") by his subordinates, is a former colleague of Dr. Vegapunk. He is also a weapons of mass destruction expert and insane scientist with a bounty of Belly 300,000,000 on his head.[2] He was the main antagonist of the Punk Hazard arc and one of the central antagonists of the Dressrosa saga.

Appearance

He has a gaseous appearance thanks to the power of the Gasu Gasu no Mi. He is tall, with black hair, brown (or orange) eyes, and two horns growing from the back of his head. He wears a robe that is sometimes blue and sometimes orange, so it may change color depending on the gas he turns into. He wears purple lipstick, has a small nose, and long, thin, flat eyebrows. He is very tall, twice Law's height, his arms are very skinny compared to the rest of his body, and he wears dark eyeshadow. He wears a bluish-white robe with the word "GAS" printed in pink on each side (in his first appearances it was not present). Under his cloak, he wears a pair of yellow overalls with diagonal stripes that are crossed with orange striped lines. He also wears dark purple gloves with the initials "CC" in white on them. Four years prior to his debut, Caesar had shorter, rounder hair and wore a polka dot shirt under his robe. His ability to turn into gas seems to affect his attire, as his robe and overall clothing have a gaseous appearance. During his third fight with Luffy, Caesar's face was badly damaged, leaving him with only a few of his teeth and bending his facial structure inward, apparently breaking his nose. As a result, his speech became a bit difficult to understand. After absorbing Shinokuni, Caesar's entire body structure changed to a darker color, becoming comparatively large, like a giant, with his hair wild and overly long. A crown shaped like coral grows from behind his horns. The first kanji of the word "Shinokuni" (死, "Shinokuni"?) is written on the front of his chest. When Usopp threw the Seastone Shackles at him, Caesar's legs are first seen as he was always seen floating thanks to his ability; he wears shoes.

Personality

Caesar is, in Smoker's words, "a crazy bastard." His actions during the Punk Hazard arc only serve to validate the Vice Admiral's words. Caesar is cruel, arrogant, scheming, sinister, and overall, an evil person. He takes delight in causing harm and destruction to everyone around him. His psychopathic nature is shown many times, such as when he detonated a chemical weapon on Punk Hazard, forever scarring its inhabitants and destroying the island's paradisiacal environment. Caesar holds a great grudge against Vegapunk, who always surpassed him as the best scientist in the Marines. Despite this, he has a somewhat rational personality, as he preferred to try to hide rather than fight the G-5 Marines and wait for Joker to give him the authorization to kill all the Marines. He also has an egomaniacal and obsessive mind, in which it seems that the only thing that exists is the desire to investigate and demonstrate his supremacy and the extent of his brilliance. Because of this, he sees others as potential guinea pigs and their well-being is insignificant. Any harm he causes is, for him, collateral damage to his successes. The fact that he performs experiments on healthy children by making them believe they are sick and using them as guinea pigs who he knows will eventually die, shows that he is a person without scruples. He has no remorse in killing anyone who serves to demonstrate the functioning of his most valuable weapon, shinokuni, even Vergo, who is one of his allies or his subordinates, who help him in his work of capturing more test subjects.

Caesar also seems to enjoy cocktails, often seen holding a cocktail glass.

Acts

He is a good actor, having fooled his subordinates for a long time (although they are not very intelligent) by showing them fake tears. Caesar has a short temper and gets angry quickly when things don't go his way. He has a strange habit of showing extremely exaggerated expressions when surprised, such as when Luffy survived his second Gastanet attack and appeared behind him unharmed, recalling at one point Enel's faces when Luffy proved immune to his electric attacks. His pride seems to be so great that he is unable to recognize his failures, to the point of saying that his work four years ago was not a failure, but a great success. In his own words, he does not like being compared to Paramecia-type Devil Fruit users, such as Magellan, and insults towards him bother him to the point of causing a lot of harm to others, such as when he strikes Law's heart after the latter insults him. Unlike most Logia-type Devil Fruit users, Caesar keeps his power active all the time.

Lies

While Caesar does at least try to accomplish missions given to him by other people, he doesn't mind giving them up and abusing the money and privileges that come with a hedonistic lifestyle of women and alcohol, especially if the missions he's been ordered to do are too difficult or impossible to accomplish (gigantization); he would even go so far as to lie to his investors in order to misuse the money for other purposes. When Caesar was under Doflamingo's protection, he didn't care what he did to other people because he was much safer, even going so far as to ignore an Emperor of the Sea. Upon Doflamingo's capture, Caesar came to fear the consequences, especially since one of those awaiting his experiments was none other than Charlotte Linlin, one of the Four Emperors, and he desperately began to lie to her and tried to think of a way to escape.

Relationships: Subordinates

Brownbeard and the other centaurs thought of him as a kind-hearted savior, so they trusted their Master blindly. Brownbeard was grateful to Caesar, who accepted him after he lost the use of his legs and even got him new "legs". Brownbeard compared Vegapunk to the devil and Caesar to God. He believed that Caesar should continue his scientific work for the good of everyone even though he doesn't seem to be fully aware of what really goes on in his laboratory. However, Caesar does not care for his subordinates, as he uses them as guinea pigs in his experiments. After Brownbeard is captured by the Straw Hats, Caesar considers him a useless idiot and orders the Yeti Cool Brothers to kill him. When Scotch shoots him, Brownbeard's last thought is when Caesar once called him a good leader. Upon awakening, Brownbeard attempts to get revenge on Caesar in order to rescue his crew; Caesar, in turn, sadistically insults Brownbeard, and secretly reveals to him the truth of the chemical weapon incident four years ago, leading Brownbeard to view Caesar as a demon. His cruelty goes as far as telling his subordinates to remove their protective suits, telling them the lie that it would not protect them from Smiley gas, all in order to fully expose them to the poison gas as a world-wide demonstration, as well as secretly sabotaging the dragon-drawn sled. Losing to Luffy and becoming desperate, Caesar gives up all lies and frankly orders his subordinates to release the Shinokuni gas into the building, while stating that they are easily replaceable trash. Although shocked at first, the subordinates deluded themselves into thinking that Caesar was setting a trap for Luffy, when they obeyed the order they were filled with horror (as many subordinates "died") to see that their master was not who they thought.

Relationships: Kidnapped Children

Caesar has several kidnapped children sent to Punk Hazard by Vergo. He manipulates them all into thinking that their stay on the island is to cure them of a strange disease and he is experimenting on them to save the world and prevent them from dying like his supposed son. All the children have great respect for Caesar, so they have decided to follow his supposed therapies. However, in reality, Caesar is using the children as guinea pigs and has no remorse for them, even though he knows they will die within five years, claiming it is a necessary sacrifice for humanity.

Allies: Monet

She is aware of Caesar's true nature. It was Vergo who assigned Monet to infiltrate the Caesar Clown organization in Punk Hazard, due to distrust in the insane scientist. Despite this, Monet unanimously agreed to give her heart to Law when Caesar ordered her to. Monet takes her job of protecting Caesar and his test subjects very seriously, hindering the advancement of the Straw Hat Pirates and the G-5 Marines as much as possible. Due to her efficiency, Caesar seems to have great affection and trust for her.

Caesar seems to put a bit of trust in Vergo, as he gave him Law's heart, to take care of. Doflamingo doesn't trust Caesar, so he ordered Vergo to place Monet to spy on the scientist. Although Caesar is unaware of Doflamingo's distrust, he knows his own value to him, leading him to delude himself into thinking that the protection bestowed upon him makes him untouchable. Smoker mentions that Caesar was friends with Vegapunk, who has a rivalry with him. Caesar was always considered the second best scientist, despite all his efforts, that is one of the reasons why he hates Vegapunk. When Vegapunk found out about all his weapons of mass destruction he was developing, he fired Caesar, causing him to hate him even more. Despite these events, Caesar showed interest in acquiring Vegapunk's laser system, to the point of wanting to capture Franky for that sole purpose. He also used the method of making an inanimate object "eat" a Zoan-type Devil Fruit to bring Smiley to life, research that was done by Vegapunk.

Enemies: Marines

Caesar has a deep grudge against the Marines. Even though he was arrested and imprisoned, he managed to escape. He also carries a bounty on him. When Caesar is informed about the arrival of the G-5 Marines he appears to be quite angry. He is seen smiling when Law gives him Smoker's supposed heart. In his flashbacks it is mentioned that he thought Sengoku was too soft on his weapons of mass destruction and that Sakazuki was interested in them.

Enemies: Straw Hat Pirates

After the Straw Hat Pirates accidentally arrived at Punk Hazard, Caesar wanted to eliminate them at all costs. Caesar became interested in the laser system that Franky possesses and wanted to capture him in order to extract it from his body. Once the Straw Hat Pirates learned of Caesar's dark intentions, they decided to help Law capture him. Luffy and Chopper have developed a deep hatred towards Caesar for how he treated children and his own men.

Caesar has always been very cautious of Law. He only allowed him to stay in Punk Hazard if he exchanged his heart with Monet's. When the Straw Hat Pirates came to Punk Hazard, he thought they were in league with Law and confronted him. Law, on the other hand, dislikes Caesar's methods and currently needs him to control SAD's production.

Enemies: Charlotte Linlin

In the past, Caesar was hired to do research on Big Mom's gigantic enlargement. However, due to the limitations and complexity of the process, Caesar was unable to create any desirable results, leading him to use the funds provided by the Empress for his own use. He even repeatedly asked her for more money under the excuse of needing additional funding for progress, but only spent it for his own enjoyment. Not wanting to suffer Big Mom's wrath, Caesar asked the Straw Hats to not let his crew capture him.[13] Following his capture, Caesar lied to Big Mom by telling her that Luffy and Law's attack on Punk Hazard shattered his hard-earned results and the proper facility to do it all, only to be terrified to learn that Big Mom has built an exact replica of the laboratory for him to recreate it all, giving him two weeks to reap the rewards of his supposed success's nonexistence.

Skills and Powers

Caesar has authority over all of the test subjects on Punk Hazard Island, as he saved them in the past and they now have blind trust in him. However, it was revealed that he does not care about them in the slightest. Caesar is also noted for being an incredibly cunning person, managing to easily escape from the Marine ship that had captured him, returning to Punk Hazard and remaining hidden for a long time. Another example of cunning was when he forced Law to give him his heart to prevent him from betraying him. This reveals the level of caution Caesar has over all people, preventing even the smallest detail from slipping through his fingers. He was also able to trick Brownbeard and all of his "subordinates" into believing that he was a good and kind person in order to use them for his own gains. In direct combat, Caesar has proven to be a powerful combatant, using the power of his Devil Fruit to put his enemy in a tight spot, an example of this happened in the second battle against Luffy, in which, he combined several attacks to prevent Luffy from getting close to him. He also appears to be a fairly resilient man, managing to emerge relatively unscathed from several Haki-imbued attacks using Luffy's Gear 2. He also withstood a terrible blow to the face from Luffy using Busoshoku Haki, emerging fully conscious. In addition to this, Caesar is an extremely stealthy man, managing to administer a sedative to Brownbeard that prevented him from speaking without anyone noticing. Caesar is a scientist with a great deal of experience in science and chemistry. He possesses several illegal and dangerous drugs such as NHC10 or a drug that relaxes muscles and prevents speech. All this earned him recognition as the main expert on weapons of mass destruction in the world and people like Kaido and Doflamingo are interested in his business. A byproduct of his scientific expertise is that he possesses massively destructive weapons, the most notable being his "pet" named Smiley, a mountain-sized monster that constantly emits a vapor that annihilates anything in front of it. Caesar is also the only person in the world who knows how to produce SAD, a rare and valuable substance that is the main ingredient for creating artificial Devil Fruits, this is another feat that Vegapunk was unable to achieve. Because of this, Doflamingo values ​​Caesar's work greatly. H2S: is a highly devastating gas with enough potential to destroy everything around it and that spread through Punk Hazard destroying all forms of life that resided there. It is the formula for hydrogen sulfide, a poisonous gas that can be very harmful to body tissues if it comes into contact in any way. It can also be found in liquid or gelatinous form. KYP: is another gas variant that Caesar created which is used to numb the opponent, this gas was used by the Yeti Cool Brothers.

Devil Fruit

Caesar ate the Gasu Gasu no Mi, a Logia-type Devil Fruit that grants him the ability to transform his body into poisonous gas, as well as being able to generate and control it. He is able to hold objects and release them at will as seen with the glass he held in his soda form.

Weapons

As a scientist, Caesar uses technology to attack his enemies. He was seen using a gun to threaten Law. He uses a kind of castanets filled with flammable gas that he calls "gastanets" that produce loud explosions when they catch fire.

Past

Caesar belonged to MADS along with Queen, Vegapunk and Vinsmoke Judge.[3] At some point in the past, Caesar had research funded by Big Mom, but the scientist scammed the pirate and has been hostile towards him ever since.

Caesar Clown was one of the best scientists in the Marine science division, he worked alongside Vegapunk on Punk Hazard Island in the development of weapons and drugs, the guinea pigs used were prisoners, something that Caesar Clown did not like since he believed that experiments to enlarge humans had to be done on children. He and Vegapunk used to be rivals, he was number two in the science division, and his way of thinking is very cruel.

The Big Punk Hazard Incident

Four years ago, Caesar Clown attempted to develop a chemical weapon of mass destruction, but the other scientists and Vegapunk tried to stop him. Clown, burning with rage, said that the then Admiral Akainu was interested in his weapon and pressed the button that activated it, causing an explosion that destroyed two of the three laboratories of the Punk Hazard Island facility, being devastated by the poisonous gas turning into a true desert. This incident caused Vegapunk's name to be linked to it and after that Clown was arrested by the Marines, but managed to escape thanks to his Logia ability.
