History Lethal Protector The sinister Life Foundation, an organization that was preparing for the fallout of the Cold War's MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction), or in the event of global chaos, sought to provide a comfortable life for its wealthy clients in the aftermath of the impending holocaust. Needing a superhuman police force to protect this utopian future, the Foundation's leader Carlton Drake saw potential candidates for these future guardians in Venom's unborn offspring and subsequently ordered him captured. [2] Once the Foundation successfully captured Venom, who was in San Francisco at the time, they took him to their laboratory in the Mojave Desert of California. While there, they forcibly extracted five Venom "seeds" and incubated them. As he was still too young to control a host, he was merged with Ramon Hernandez, an officer in the Life Foundation's security force, which was composed of police officers, soldiers, and mercenaries. Together, he and Hernandez along with the other four would become the Foundation's guardian symbiotes. [3][4] Venom Lethal Protector Vol 1 5 001 Life Foundation (Earth-616) Venom: Lethal Protector #5 When Spider-Man followed his "sister", Strike Agent Four's Donna Diego, he and the other Guardian Symbiotes attacked the wall-crawler. But before they could kill him, Eddie, who had broken free once they removed the Venom Symbiote, appeared. In order to defeat them, Eddie once again merged with the Venom Symbiote and managed to defeat the Guardian Symbiotes alongside Spider-Man using a metabolic accelerator, which rapidly sped up the Symbiotes' aging process and eventually turned them into dust as Venom's power increased, seemingly killing them. Lasher's host, as well as the Symbiotes' other hosts, also appeared to die in the resulting explosion.
Separation anxiety Not only did the symbiote survive along with its siblings thanks to the efforts of the Life Foundation, but so did its hosts. But it and the others began to gain influence over their host, so the hosts wanting to maintain control planned to seek out Eddie Brock for help. [6] When Ramon Hernandez and the others suddenly left the Lift Foundation facility to enlist Eddie Brock's help, Donna went alone to talk to Brock/Venom, but failed in both of her attempts. He and the rest of the former Guardian Symbiotes joined her soon after in her third attempt to gain Brock's help. Together they broke Brock, who had lost the Venom symbiote, out of a New Mexico facility and brought him to an abandoned factory in a small town near Chicago to help them. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] Ramon Hernandez (Earth-616) from Venom Separation Anxiety Vol 1 1 002 Unfortunately, once again, Brock refused, due to his belief that all "children" of the Venom symbiote become psychopathic killers like Carnage. Brock later managed to escape and soon after his sister, the dark purple and dark pink symbiote, along with its host Leslie Gesneria, were found dead. Though at the time they believed it was Eddie Brock who killed them and wanted to make him pay. [13] When her brother, the light orange symbiote, and its host Carl Mach were also later killed by a sonic sword, Donna went to kill Brock, but was stopped by her host Hernandez in hopes that Brock could still help them. Unbeknownst to him, it was Donna, Donna who had emerged from her schizophrenia and her sister's influence when she first approached Brock. But by the time he and his brother, the largely blue symbiote host Trevor Cole, realized this, she had picked up the sonic sword.
who had stolen from the facility holding Brock and killed his brother and the host.[14] As her host Hernandez attempted to calm her down, she killed them both and was herself defeated by a reunited Venom and Brock. After Venom escaped from the team that had been tracking the Venom symbiote and contained them, it was revealed that they had survived, though this time their hosts did not.
Personality Like his brothers, Lasher was a very violent symbiote due to still being immature after being extracted by the Life Foundation, so much so that his first host sought help along with the others to control themselves and do good with the symbiote. Due to his weakened state after being separated from his host who was killed by Scream, participating in multiple painful experiments in the Vault, and out of fear of being alone, Lasher and his other brothers merged to create Hybrid and bonded with Scott Washington. After being deactivated and separated from Scott and his other brothers, Lasher was left in a catatonic state as the government used him to bond with Team Mercury's dog. Though no longer catatonic, Lasher lost his free will when he became an acolyte of the God Knull during the Second Symbiote Invasion. After being freed from Knull's control, Lasher found a home in William, an old man with severe dementia who served as his new host. Unfortunately, Lasher's freedom would not last long, as Carnage soon called upon the symbiote to join his hive. Lasher wanted nothing to do with Carnage and attempted to refuse the call, and when Carnage began to manipulate his new host's consciousness, Lasher warned him not to listen to the psychotic symbiote, but these warnings were useless as Lasher eventually succumbed to Carnage's corruption.
Attributes Powers Symbiote Biology: The Lasher symbiote covers its host in greenish biomass and enhances their natural abilities to a superhuman level. Possibly due to Earth's environment, it has the ability to manipulate its biomass in a variety of ways. When bonded to a host, it manifests six tentacles on its upper back, with three on each side. Superhuman strength Superhuman durability Superhuman endurance Superhuman smell Regeneration Climb the wall Spider sense Spider-Man's spider-sense immunity Organic network generation Camouflage Generation of constituent matter Constituent Matter Manipulation (Multiple Tendrils): Unlike its fellow symbiotes, the Lasher symbiote preferred to create tentacles on its back. Its primary method of attack was to form long, whip-like tendrils that acted as limbs to be more effective against opponents, trapping and lashing them. They had a mucous-like membrane surrounding them. Remote Symbiosis: After being toned down by the government, the Lasher symbiote was given the ability to physiologically bond and spread between a pilot user and the corpse of a non-sentient entity. Namely, dogs or other small bipedal animals, creating a means of ranged attack with which its host can also issue commands through a mimetic mouthpiece generated from one of its limbs; issuing orders to move, return, strike, or maim a designated assailant.
