Meruem

Meruem (メルエム, Meruemu) was the most powerful descendant of the Queen Chimera Ant, and the King of the Chimera Ants. He is the main antagonist of the Chimera Ant Arc.

Meruem appears to be rather humanoid for an ant. His appearance is a homage to another famous manga antagonist: Cell from Dragon Ball Z, written and drawn by Akira Toriyama (he also resembles Frieza, another Dragon Ball Z antagonist). Meruem is quite muscular, despite his relatively small body compared to his minions. He has two long appendages extending from his earlobes, and a large shell-like armor on his head that resembles a helmet. There are dark pigmented areas on his arms, legs, chest, and head. Meruem is always barefoot. He also possesses a powerful tail equipped with a stinger that serves as his weapon. It is important to note that both hands and feet have only four fingers each. Meruem is initially seen as a cruel and violent leader. The Queen's intention to give birth to perfect offspring is reflected in Meruem's mindset, being arrogant towards everyone. He speaks eloquently and has refined his taste for one of his species. He considers himself superior to all other life forms and feels no concern for his dying mother after his birth. Meruem is also ruthless, killing and cannibalizing any Chimera Ant he deems as disrespectful, though he still maintains respect towards the strong, praising Neferpitou for surviving an attack that killed many of them without much damage at all. As the story progresses, Meruem begins to reluctantly respect Komugi, a human woman. Over time he even cares for her and becomes fond of her, as she was the only one who made him smile or laugh. From there, Meruem begins to question the differences between ants and humanity. He struggles with his identity as a half-human and half-insect, questioning the nature of violence and strength as true power. He is very skilled and learns things at a surprising speed, being able to master any form of games seen.
