Valdemir Makarov

Vladimir Makarov was born before the fall of the Soviet Union in the suburbs of Moscow. As the son of a high-ranking politician within the Russian government, Makarov watched the Soviet Union crumble, taking his father with it. The bright eyed, intelligent boy woke up one morning to his father's hanging body. Makarov came to despise his father's weakness, as well as the failures of the Soviet Union which had brought it about. He vowed not to make the same mistakes and so began his lifelong obsession. In 1998, Makarov joined the Russian military at the age of 18. A natural soldier with a talent for strategy, his reputation turned sour when he joined forces with an unsanctioned rogue army to maintain control of Urzikstan. When the Urzikstan Liberation Force rose and took back their home, Makarov experienced his first failure. Recognizing traces of the Soviet Union's failures once again, Makarov pleaded with his superiors to reclaim Urzikstan, disgusted by the international mockery the ULF had made of Russian power. But the Kremlin. who had not sanctioned the attack on Urzikstan to begin with, refused, stripping the radical Makarov of all military honors. Attack on Verdansk Seeking justice for the actions made against him, Makarov joined Konni Group and plotted his first terrorist attack. On April 6, 2019, Makarov, alongside operators of the Inner Circle, who were disguised as police officers and paramedics, launched an attack in the Verdansk Stadium to attract Russia's attention, which prompted General Herschel Shepherd to send Captain John Price and Johnny "Soap" MacTavish to intervene and capture Makarov. He was later handed over to Russian authorities, who sentenced him to life in a maximum-security gulag. Incarceration Despite being imprisoned, Makarov was still able to coordinate Konni Group to attack and steal three missiles transported by Shadow Company. The missiles were later handed to Hassan Zyani for his plan of vengeance against the United States for the death of General Ghorbrani. In August 2023, Makarov commanded Konni forces in Al Mazrah who were defending against Shadow Company forces attacking the Zaya Observatory to secure the chemical gas inside. During the assault, Makarov instructed his men via burner phones, which would be picked up by Shadow forces, leading to Shadow commander Phillip Graves and General Shepherd learning of his involvement. Despite Shadow Company's success in destroying the observatory and securing most of the gas, Makarov managed to plant two Konni operatives, Ivan Alexxeve and Andrei Nolan, within the Shadow ranks. They later hijacked one of the exfil choppers carrying a gas shipment per Makarov's orders. Escaping the Gulag On November 10th, 2023, Makarov was freed by Konni Group during their assault on the Zordaya Prison Complex. Following the prison break, Makarov rallied Konni operators, announcing his plans, and stripped Ivan of his title as Team Leader, due to his incompetence during the prison assault, and promoted Nolan, who executed the former. On November 11, 2023, Makarov orchestrated the hijacking of the Kastovia Flight 761, where he strapped a bomb vest to one of the passengers, a former ULF member named Samara Jalal, alongside launching several stolen missiles from the ULF, equipped with Konni's chemical gas, at the Arklov Military Base to pin the blame on the ULF, starting a conflict between Russia and Urzikstan. After interrogating a Shadow Company soldier for intel in St. Petersburg, Makarov and Nolan watched as Konni loaded a bomb into one helicopter before Makarov departed in another. On November 21, 2023, Makarov hired a hacker, who uploaded a Trojan virus to the British train system, allowing him to control it. This prompted Task Force 141 and SFO intervention, however, Makarov and his men had already gone down the tunnel earlier, they used the trains and set up sentry turrets to delay Task Force 141 and SFO, to give them time to plant the bomb and destroy the tunnel. In spite of that, Task Force 141 still managed to reach the bomb's location; as Soap and Price were disarming the bomb, Makarov and his men ambushed them. Ordering his men to stand back and leave his enemies to him, Makarov shot Soap and then pinned Price down, taunting the latter that he should "never bury your enemies alive". Soap was able to get up and stab Makarov in the shoulder, but Makarov then killed Soap with a gunshot to the head, much to the anguish of Price. Makarov was then forced to retreat when 141 members Kyle "Gaz" Garrick and Simon "Ghost" Riley fired on them.

Nolan

Inner Circle Nolan served as a member of Vladimir Makarov's Inner Circle. Following Makarov's arrest in Verdansk, Nolan alongside other members of the group joined Konni, where they'd plan for Makarov's eventual return. Operation Rogue Arsenal Nolan, alongside Ivan Alexxeve, was ordered to pose as Shadow Company soldiers, during Operation Rogue Arsenal, who were delivering the chemical agents to the Support Helo for exfil. Once the two were onboard, Ivan contacted Makarov, who ordered the two to kill the other Shadows aboard the Pave Low. Nolan and Ivan completed the assignment, killing all of the Shadow Company operatives and seizing the chemical agents on board. Operation 627 Nolan, alongside with Ivan and Rook, were sent to infiltrate the Zordaya Prison Complex to rescue Makarov with assistance from both Bravo Team and Charlie Team. Though the mission was a success, Ivan was later executed by Nolan, under Makarov's order, due to miscalculations that happened during their escape. Nolan was then appointed to be Makarov's second in command. Captured in St. Petersburg Following the raid on Plutus Island and the subsequent interrogation of Milena Romanova, Makarov's fiancer. Task Force 141 learnt about the existence of a Konni outpost in St. Petersburg where Nolan was located. Captain John Price and Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick then raided the stronghold and captured Nolan for interrogation. However, he refused to disclose any information to the team. Escape On December 6th, 2023, Nolan managed to escape imprisonment, with the help of Makarov. Then, he alongside Dokkaebi and other Konni contractors took over Urzikstan.

König

Biography König suffered from severe social anxiety throughout his life, often being bullied during his childhood. At the age of 17, he volunteered for the military. While he hoped to join as a recon sniper, his physical size and his inability to stay still made him an unsuitable candidate. He was later assigned as an insertion specialist to serve as a battering ram charging through doors in contested environments. During a mission, König took down an Al-Qatala cell in Berlin which was involved in human-trafficking. He breached the townhouse and eliminated all twelve AQ fighters inside. However, his sniper hood terrified the Urzik hostages who had to be convinced by the rest of his team to follow König to safety. By 2022, König became a contractor for the KorTac private military company.

Valeria Garza

A former member of the Mexican Special Forces, Valeria Garza served in the RED team alongside Jesus "Chuy" Ordaz and worked with Alejandro Vargas' Los Vaqueros. In 2014[1], the RED team participated in a raid on the son of La Araña. Unbeknownst to Alejandro and Chuy, many members of the RED team, including Valeria, were enforcers for the La Araña Cartel. They turned against their former teammates and escorted the son of La Araña to the mountains before executing him. Valeria established the Las Almas Cartel shortly after under the name "El Sin Nombre", while posing as the second in command and chief enforcer of the cartel. In late 2022, Valeria made a deal with Hassan Zyani to transport him and several stolen ballistic missiles across the border. She provided him with Cartel forces as protection, though Hassan would soon be captured by Task Force 141 and Shadow Company. Task Force 141 would later send one of their operatives, Johnny "Soap" MacTavish, undercover alongside Alejandro to infiltrate El Sin Nombre's private mansion. Soap encountered Valeria, unaware of her real identity, and was interrogated by her. Later, Soap and Alejandro found out Valeria was El Sin Nombre, and proceeded to apprehend her with the assistance of Shadow Company and Mexican Special Forces. Under captivity, Valeria agreed to tell Task Force 141 the location of the missiles that she transported for Hassan, in exchange for her freedom and non-interference with her cartel's drug operations. However, this deal would eventually be broken when Shepherd ordered Shadow Company to eliminate all traces linking him back to the missiles, including Task Force 141 and Los Vaqueros. This led to Shadow Company killing many within Las Almas to eliminate Task Force 141 members and also capture Hassan. Valeria would eventually be rescued by Task Force 141 and Alejandro's men from the custody of Shadow Company. In return, she revealed that Hassan and the final missile are in Chicago. As she was led away by Alejandro to be imprisoned by Mexican authorities, she taunted him and the rest of Task Force 141 that she cannot be imprisoned forever and would be free within 24 hours. In April 2023, Valeria escaped custody, prompting Alejandro to hunt her down yet again. She ordered her Cartel troops to mobilize to Al Mazrah, where they began new operations, including cooperating with the Konni Group.

Phillip Graves

Graves enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and eventually became an operator in the elite MARSOC Raiders. However, at some point, Graves began to feel disillusioned with the military, thinking that the uniform he once proudly wore limited and held back men like him. After leaving the military, in 2017, Graves set up his own private military company, which he named Shadow Company. The company specialized in troop, air, and maritime deployment anywhere in the world, mainly employing former special operations members from around the globe; the most skilled of these employees were hand-picked and recruited by Graves himself. In 2020, Graves and Shadow Company caught the attention of Allegiance, who were looking for assistance in the War Against Al-Qatala after the collapse of Armistice, subsequently, Shadow Company was hired by Allegiance to locate and capture Victor Zakhaev in Verdansk, even though they failed to do so, Shadow Company still remained in Verdansk to fight against Al-Qatala under Allegiance, loosely. Later, General Herschel Shepherd. Impressed with Graves' abilities, began to contract Shadow Company tasking them with covert black ops missions around the world; most being in support of Task Force 141. During a recon mission on July 15th, 2022, Graves, Simon "Ghost" Riley, Kate Laswell, Shepherd, and Shadow Company took out a high-value target via a ballistic missile strike in Al Mazrah. Ambush in Al Mazrah A month later, on August 12th, Graves oversaw a clandestine operation with General Shepherd as Shadow Company was covertly transporting 3 American ballistic missiles to allies fighting in the Middle East. The convoy was ambushed by Konni Group leading to the death of all Shadow Company's contractors and the loss of the missiles. Konni provided the missiles to Hassan Zyani and Al-Qatala as Zyani plotted his vengeance against the United States for the death of Ghorbrani. Graves and Shepherd began a cover-up campaign to hide their involvement in the illegal shipping and loss of American weaponry. Supporting Task Force 141 Intel gathered by Laswell indicates that Hassan is in Las Almas, Mexico. To find him, Shepherd sent Task Force 141, aided by Graves and his Shadows, to Las Almas to find Hassan. There, Ghost, Johnny "Soap" MacTavish, and Alejandro Vargas, accompanied by the Los Vaqueros, searched around a village in the mountains for Hassan, but the endeavor proved unsuccessful, as the Cartel had already moved him away. The trio then went to the cartel compound, calling upon Graves and Shadow Company to support them overhead while inside an AC-130. After successfully capturing Hassan, the team passes through a village in which they are ambushed by the Cartel, which prompts Graves to engage them. Capture of El Sin Nombre To gather more information about the location of the stolen Missiles, Graves assisted Soap and Alejandro in infiltrating a mansion and capturing Valeria Garza, the leader of the Las Almas Cartel, who is also known as "El Sin Nombre". Through interrogation, Graves finds out the location of the second missile, which results in him and his Shadows, accompanied by Task Force 141 and Alejandro, embarking on a mission to find the stolen missile and destroy it on an abandoned oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. Betrayal Immediately following the event, Graves announced his intention to seize the Fuerza Especiales HQ, betraying Task Force 141 and Los Vaqueros in the process. A firefight broke out, with Graves detaining Alejandro while Ghost and an injured Soap escaped. Later, Graves and Shadow Company aggressively interrogated townsfolks in Las Almas, even killing many of them, in an attempt to find out the whereabouts of Hassan, as well as Ghost and Soap. Disappearance As the Fuerzas Especiales HQ was being taken back by a combined team of TF 141 Operators and Los Vaqueros in an attack, Graves fled the HQ and secured a tank, which he used to attack Soap and Rodolfo Parra in the HQ's training field. Using various equipment in the field, Soap destroyed the tank, which seemingly killed Graves. Unbeknownst to Task Force 141, Graves was never inside the tank, thus surviving the confrontation. The "blue-on-blue" incident prompted an investigation by the FBI - to which Graves responded by appointing his subordinate, Osmond "Oz" Ryan as the Interim Commander of Shadow Company, while he continued to operate Shadow Company behind the scenes.

Nova 6

World War II When it became clear that the Allied Powers were on the path to a military victory, Adolf Hitler and the Nazis began searching for less conventional ways to destroy their enemies. What they found was a weapon more devastating than even the Nazis could've imagined. Development began in January 1944 under the leadership of Friedrich Steiner, and by 1945, weaponized samples had been produced in sufficient numbers to arm at least a battery of V-2 and the experimental V-3 rockets. According to reports made by MI6 at that time, the original Nova 6 test site located outside the municipality of Poland was destroyed by heavy bombing. Subsequently, the compounds were transported along the Elbe River to a freighter in the North Sea. Officially, MI6 claimed the freighter was sunk under the direct order of attack and the shipwreck was locked in the Arctic ice. In actuality, the SS survivors tried to salvage what they could from the ship and then rigged the ship with scuttling charges to prevent capture by the Allies. By the time the work was completed, Berlin had fallen and the war in Europe had ended, making an Allied attack inevitable. Post-World War II Nova 6 Soviet Photo BO Soviets in the Arctic Circle. In October 1945, after Kravchenko and Dragovich learned of the project's existence from Dragovich's interrogation of German prisoners-of-war, they begin to search for the freighter. The mission was successful in capturing Steiner (who had contacted Dragovich to cut a deal for his own life) and the stockpile of the gas on board. Due to a longstanding grudge, Dragovich had the members of Reznov's squad used as test subjects for the gas to witness its power. While Dimitri Petrenko, Vikharev, and Belov were gassed to death, Reznov, Nevski, and Tvelin managed to escape the gas chamber with the arrival of the British Commandos dispatched to secure or destroy the Nova 6. Dragovich, Kravchenko, and Steiner fled, while Reznov and what was left of his men managed to escape the attack and activate scuttling charges to destroy the ship and the Nova 6 along with it. Cold War While the original sample of the gas was destroyed, Steiner, Dragovich, and Kravchenko escaped with small samples of the gas; with Steiner alive, the Soviets were able to re-synthesize the gas. According to CIA intelligence, in 1959 Dragovich finally obtained the Party's approval on the use of Nova 6 as a first-strike weapon in the event of World War III. In 1964, a British chemical engineer, Daniel Clarke, defected and joined the Nova 6 research team to help stabilize certain "volatile compounds". But in 1968, he escaped to Kowloon City in Hong Kong. Dragovich sent Spetsnaz operators to eliminate Clarke, but CIA agents Jason Hudson and Grigori Weaver were able to reach him first and obtain information about the Yamantau complex where Nova 6 was being weaponized, as well as the number sequence that would be used to activate the gas. Clarke was killed before he could be safely extracted, however, and his Kowloon lab was destroyed. The Soviet-produced Nova 6 was developed in a secret facility at Mount Yamantau. Compared to its German predecessor, it was more stable in transport and far more lethal when in use. It was a component gas, mixing two different chemicals to form the final product. First lab-tested in Rebirth Island and then field-tested in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. It also saw use in the fighting at Rebirth Island. Both sides, who were anticipating its use, continued the fight in Hazmat suits. In Dragovich's plan to "strike at the very heart of the west," sleeper agents all across the United States, logistically supported by front company GKM, would release Nova 6 after receiving the broadcast from the Rusalka, a broadcast station disguised as a Soviet freighter. This was to be done as a crippling first strike in the event of a Soviet invasion against the US. However, after Mason remembered the location of the broadcast station, the U.S. Navy bombarded the ship and destroyed the relay, stopping Nova 6 from being unleashed. Revival Project Nova was briefly revived by Adolf Schlussel in the Winter of 1977, years after his mentor, Friedrich Steiner, was killed. He returned to the Yamantau complex and attempted to resume operations, but the CIA caught wind of it, and a group of soldiers led by Frank Woods fought their way into the complex and killed Schlussel inside. Schlussel had also developed an ICBM with Nova 6 dispersal units, and one that was being tested in Mt. Elbrus was destroyed by Woods. Much like his predecessors, Schlussel tested his Nova 6 on human subjects, as seen when he does so to a captured American soldier. By 1981, Kravchenko had samples of Nova 6 and its research kept in his office in the Lubyanka Building, implying he was trying to replicate and experiment with the gas himself. During the mission "Desperate Measures", Dimitri Belikov can optionally break into Kravchenko's office and steal the Nova 6 samples to use as poison in Anton Charkov's drink. In January 1984, Vikhor "Stitch" Kuzmin, a Soviet operative who was formerly in charge of the production of Nova 6 on Rebirth Island, once again began recreating the agent for Perseus. Stockpiling the agent at the Mall at the Pines, Stitch lured his archenemy Russell Adler and a small task force to the mall and ambushed them with his own men, seeking to eliminate Adler for stabbing out his eye and subsequently causing him to be dishonored by Kravchenko years prior. Rediscovery by Coalescence Nova 6 has been the chemical agent responsible for the "Singapore Incident", where trace amounts of the gas were released into the atmosphere as a result of the SP/CORVUS DNI experiments gone wrong, killing 300,000 citizens in Singapore. Several Nova 6 canisters also can be found around the old Coalescence facility in the mission "Hypocenter". An unmarked canister of Nova 6 can be collected by the player as well. During the mission "Life", Nova 6 is seen inside the Coalescence Corporation headquarters at Zürich, as a part of renewing the Corvus back project. In the mission "Life", Rachel Kane is killed by the gas after being tricked into entering a chamber which the Corvus entity then sealed off and pumped Nova 6 into. Nightmares In the Nightmares version of the Call of Duty: Black Ops III campaign, it is revealed that Nova 6 was fused together with Element 115 to create a mind control serum during the DNI testing in the Coalescence facility in 2060. However, it backfired and created a portal to Malum, which allowed Deimos to escape from Malum. He then releases 61-15, the name of the new combination of the two elements, around the world in gas form, in order to create his undead army.
