Freddy Riley was a lawyer who specialized in Financial Advisement for business owners, and would wear the façade of a reliable and hardworking man in order to attract promising clients. In his search for profit he became connected with one Leo Beck who owned a textile factory. After meeting Leo's wife Martha, Freddy believed they were destined to be together, and began to court her with love letters secretly while outwardly forming not only a business relationship but a friendship with Leo. Freddy had a strong enough relationship with Leo that he was invited to the birthday of their daughter, Lisa Beck. However, in order to obtain what he wanted, he convinced Leo Beck to invest in the Minerva Arms Factory, which put the man in immense debt, and drove a wedge into his relationship with his wife. After an argument about the factory, Martha left Leo to be with Freddy, and Lisa was put into an orphanage. Leo's factory burnt down with him inside of it, and Freddy believed he had finally obtained all of his desires as he married Martha. However, such an ideal life did not last. Martha soon became pregnant with Freddy's child, another girl which they planned to name Annecy. Unfortunately, his schemes came to light after the factory burned down, and upon reading the newspaper Martha finds out that the Arms Factory would only had been bought by Leo because Freddy had convinced him to, as "even the dumbest person knows not to spend money on extra debts" such as came with that factory. Saying that she was going to the orphanage to retrieve Lisa, and that she would rename Annecy, she left Freddy.
