Personality

Speaking with an upper-class London accent, Bertrum is quite dramatic, arrogant, and egotistical, to the point that his pomposity rivals that of Joey Drew. He is very proud of the theme parks he creates, having worked at many amusement parks for over forty years, calling them "colossal marvels" and saying that he earned his legacy by sweating it out with over 40 years of experience. He hates it when Joey Drew calls him pet names (such as Bertie), and also when credit for his hard work is taken away from him, as he understandably dislikes being disrespected or discredited by anyone. As evidenced in his 1940 audio recording, Bertrum saw Joey as someone with high standards and expectations for his work, and would often make corrections to notes that Bertrum sent for his theme park. He criticized Joey for his expectations and efforts making him unable to realize the vision he had planned for his studio. As seen in the Bendy mascot costume designs designed by Bertrum in the Joey Drew Studio Employee Handbook, this is largely due to Joey's belief that Bertrum did not "dream" as big as he expected. In Dreams Come True, based on his only appearance in the novel, he is shown to be polite and friendly towards most people (meaning that his resentment is directed solely at Joey personally).

Hidden rivalry with Joey

Some time later, he rants about the conditions of his job creating a Bendy-themed attraction. He was quite upset when Joey Drew started calling him by his childish name in public, and later when Joey wanted to take credit for Bendy Land.

Celebrating the party

Bertrum attends a company party that Joey Drew invites Buddy Levesque to, where Buddy meets Bertrum in passing through Joey. After a short conversation, he leaves with Joey to prepare his speech for Bendy Land.

Hello, Bertie

In Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders, his audio log, in which he describes his work in Bendy Land and his opinions on Joey, first appears in Chapter 4, where it can be found near the entrance to the warehouse. His second tape is found in the Attraction Vault in Vault 9. However, unlike all audio recordings before it, the sound does not appear to be coming from the tape itself, but rather from a speaker connected to it. The recording describes him being angry at Joey Drew for trying to take Bendy Land away from him. He concludes his autograph by stating that even though Joey thought he was kicked out of the company, he was still there;[2] initiating a fight with the boss against him that resulted in his dismemberment.

Bendy on Twitter stated that Bertrum's birthday is April 30th. His name is a variant of the Old French-German name Bertram, meaning "bright raven". His nickname "Bertie" is a diminutive of names such as Albert, Herbert, Robert, Norbert, Bertrand and other names containing bertha (often derived from the Germanic element beraht, meaning "bright").
