He is the first child of Sebastián Reyes and Ana María Guerrero along with his other siblings, Oscar Reyes, Franco Reyes and Libia Reyes. They lived on a ranch in a different region with horses and a farm. At one point, when she was young, she met her mother's brother, Aníbal Guerrero. One day, while Franco and Libia were away, thieves killed their parents and took over their land. When Juan tried to break into his house to look for his parents, Oscar stopped him because it was burning and his parents were already dead. The four siblings fled to another region to find their uncle Anibal, but with no luck. They started their lives from scratch by building their bakery while continuing to search for their uncle.

Her younger sister, Libia, falls in love with Bernardo Elizondo, the millionaire owner of a ranch, and has a torrid romance with him. Juan finds out about the rumors surrounding Libia and although he doesn't believe them at first, she confesses to him and his brothers that she is seeing a man. Of the three brothers, Juan is the one who is most dismayed by this relationship. When they finally meet Libia's lover and realize that he is an older man, Juan decides that it would be best to move to another city, in order to separate Libia from Bernardo. But he soon finds out that Libia is pregnant, so he has no other option but to accept that both of them be together and also asks Bernardo to marry Libia. A tragedy happens when Libia commits suicide after facing so many problems. Thus, only three Reyes brothers remain.
