History

Littorio was an Italian battleship in World War II, part of the Regia Marina (Italian Royal Navy). Launched in 1937, she was the lead ship of her class, named after the Roman symbol "Lictor." While involved in battles like Taranto and Cape Spartivento, she saw limited combat due to concerns for future conflicts. Littorio and her sister ship, Vittorio Veneto, were impressive but outmatched by larger naval powers. Taken by the Germans after Italy's surrender, Littorio faced Allied air raids in 1944 and was eventually seized by the Allies post-war. Handed to the French Navy, she would later find her end being scrapped in the mid-1950s.
