Tartaglia, also known by his alias "Nobile", and whose real name is "Ajax" is a playable character in Genshin Impact. Tartaglia has short, choppy orange hair and lackluster blue eyes. He wears a detached red Fatui mask on the side of his head and a beaded earring with a red crystal in his left ear. He wears a gray jacket with dark red and light gray accents, gray pants, and black boots and gloves. His jacket is left unbuttoned at the end to reveal a belt, to which his Hydro Vision is attached, and he wears short gloves that leave his wrist exposed. Instead, they are held up with buttons, with the outer edge decorated with a black symbol. He also wears a red banner across his chest and over his left shoulder, which is infused with a faint Hydro effect when he is in the melee stance of his Elemental Skill: Legacy of Evil: Raging Waves. During the battle at the Golden House, Tartaglia uses his Electro Deception to the right of his Vision in the center of his belt, and then moves his Vision to the empty slot on his right chest when he fully activates the Legacy of Evil Transformation.

Tartaglia describes himself as "kind of a bad boy," but not the kind who wants to cause trouble for the Traveler, but rather the kind who lives for the thrill of a fight and causing havoc. As a child, he was originally scared and hesitant, but secretly longed to become an adventurer while listening to his father's adventures. After falling into the Abyss and reuniting and training with Skirk, he became the bloodthirsty warrior he is today. He is self-confident, self-centered, egotistical, and brash. However, he also enjoys the feeling of being alive. A warrior at heart, he constantly seeks ways to grow stronger, no matter what methods he uses or how he gains that power. He yearns for combat and thrills to fight particularly powerful enemies, even if it means dying in the process. His weapon is bow and arrow, as he is the least proficient, which makes his victories all the more thrilling. Due to his pride, Tartaglia is quite reliable in completing the tasks entrusted to him, regardless of their degree of difficulty or how immoral they may be for him, since his experience has taught him to sacrifice certain things for the well-being of his priorities (in many cases, his nation or family). Because he's such a simple guy, he's often an easy target for manipulation, as in the case of Zhongli and Signora, when he was forced to make a completely insensitive move only to be betrayed and realize that he was just a pawn in a larger scheme he wasn't aware of.

Among the other Heralds, Tartaglia is an oddball. While the other Heralds utilize clandestine operations and remain behind the scenes, Tartaglia prefers to be front and center. In addition to his lust for battle and tendency to wreak havoc, he is a public figure known for attending social gatherings and even participating in plays as an actor. As a result, his coworkers distrust him, while he despises them for their schemes and "intangible" methods. This is evident when he tells the Traveler that he is not a fan of La Signora's methods, and appears thoughtful when the Traveler mentions the Mondstadt incident as a reason to distrust him. That said, he only resorts to such methods when he must, because he prefers to engage his enemies in one-on-one combat rather than luring them into traps.

While Tartaglia appears to be helping the Traveler on the surface, he is also using them for his own purposes: he has Ekaterina eavesdrop on their conversations so that she can learn, through the Traveler, the true purpose of the 7 Stars of Liyue. Tartaglia is quite self-confident and a bit brash; he says he uses bows because it's the weapon he's weakest on, which makes it all the more exciting when he defeats powerful opponents with it. He doesn't think much of throwing away his money, even jokingly offering to let the Traveler rob the Northern Kingdom Bank if it will put him in his good graces. He devotes himself wholeheartedly to those he cares about. He is completely loyal to the Tsarina and holds her in high regard, seeing himself as her weapon of war. He also cares deeply for his family; he frequently sends money, gifts, and letters home. He is also proud of his three brothers and frequently dotes on them, especially Teucer. He also views the Traveler favorably, compared to his coworkers who have known him thus far. He enjoys fishing, having come to appreciate this hobby greatly before his drastic change. Even then, he continues to fish, but as a form of meditation, honing his stamina and contemplating his combat techniques. He has no preferences or dislikes when it comes to what he eats, stating that a true warrior should not neglect what he eats in a similar way to the weapon he uses.

His name was Ajax, a name his father gave him after the hero of an adventure story. He and his father used to fish together, sitting in front of a hole in a frozen lake. Ice fishing wasn't an easy task. Sometimes it could take an entire morning. However, whether they were digging holes in the surface of a frozen lake or waiting patiently for the fish to bite, his father always accompanied him, telling him his many adventure stories from when he was young. Young Ajax saw himself as an adventurer, so he paid attention to every little detail and always put himself in the protagonist's shoes to prepare for his future. Even after he began living apart from his family, ice fishing remained his favorite pastime, whether it was Ajax, Tartaglia, or Nobile. What changed was that his fishing days were no longer accompanied by stories, but by endurance training and meditation to reflect on fighting techniques. After so many hours of meditation, he no longer cared whether he caught anything or not.

Contrary to what the world may think, Tartaglia was not born with his exceptional combat skills. He learned them at a key moment in his life, but that's something he never tells anyone. When he was 14, he ran away from home with only a short sword and a bag of bread to escape his monotonous family. He got lost in a snowy forest and, while being chased by packs of bears and wolves, fell into a bottomless hole. There, he saw an ancient world of endless possibilities and encountered a mysterious swordswoman. Or rather, the kingdom of darkness had set its sights on this ambitious young man. Later, when he became Nobile of The Eleven, he was never able to find out the truth behind that darkness again. During the three months she was there, the swordswoman taught her how to move freely through the abyss. And more importantly, it fueled his innate ability to provoke conflict. No one knows what happened to Ajax during his time in darkness, as his lips remain sealed on the matter. When his worried mother and sisters finally found him inside the forest, only three days had passed in this world. Still holding his rusty short sword, Ajax had completed the first adventure of his life. This marked the end of his adolescence and his beginning as a warrior.

When he returned home, the young man was no longer the same. He was no longer frightened or indecisive, but had become frivolous and confident.
