However, during a flashback, he was shown to be part of a group of kids involved with an unknown organization called the White Room, headed by his father. There was also a time when his father had approached and told him that "those who don't reveal their talents are fools." From his time there, Kiyotaka underwent various training regiments, presumably including martial arts, while taking heavy and challenging written examinations giving him both extreme physical abilities and mental prowess. As time went on, more children started suffering like the fainted child, Kiyotaka eventually became the lone survivor of the group. His training led him to believe that all humans are nothing, but tools and that victory is all that matters in the world. With this point of view, he became determined to win no matter what and sacrifice anything or anyone to achieve his goal of obtaining victory. His father was pleased with his success, believing that his son would be the greatest in the world. At some point, the White Room was temporarily shut down for one year and this gave Kiyotaka a chance to escape with the help of Matsuo (Kiyotaka's butler) who told him to enroll at the Advanced Nurturing

High School where his father cannot reach, and he would be able to live a normal school life. Kiyotaka took the entrance exams to enter Advanced Nurturing High School and scored exactly 50 out of 100 points on every subject. A few others heavily hinted that this act was done on purpose to avoid unwanted attention from the school, which he denied by claiming it to be merely a coincidence. In the manga, he stated (in his monologue) that the biggest reason why he chose Advanced Nurturing High School was that he wanted freedom. He also noted in his monologue that while in middle school, he was forbidden to associate with friends, or even relatives, that were not approved for him.”],

This led her to be a loner for the next nine years, never seeing the error of her ways and repenting. Although she blackmailed Kiyotaka to keep her secret, she still interacts with him openly after the ordeal. For the entire six years in elementary school, they were together in the same class because they were neighbors as well, they always went to and back from school together. However, after they entered middle school, for the first time, they were separated into different classes. Though that was the case, Yōsuke and Sugimura still went to school and back home together. However, the days they were together started declining very gradually and diminished completely. Yōsuke began hanging out with friends from his new class. In a new environment, it's inevitable to make new friends, anyway. Little did he knew that while Yōsuke was busy playing with his friends, behind his back,

Sugimura was being bullied. Sugimura sent Yōsuke pleas for help many times. Sugimura would often show up with his face injured and injury marks all over him. But against those wailing calls, Yōsuke instead chose to become silent, deaf, and blind. He prioritized playing with his new friends and never took Sugimura seriously. The latter on the other hand, who originally had a headstrong personality, become someone who was always quick to pick a fight so the former never deeply thought about his situation. A year later, Yōsuke and Sugimura both became sophomore students and they reunited with each other. However, Sugimura had become heartbroken at that time. His previously bright, cheerful image was no longer there and marks left by punches and kicks only remained. He was not even allowed to go to the toilet and was forced to leak in the middle of class. That sort of bullying became a routine. Though Yōsuke witnessed such violence, he didn't do anything, and much more, he couldn't do anything. Yōsuke was too afraid that he would become the new target, that his "enjoyable life" would then be destroyed. Towards Sugimura who'd always been with him, he continued to pretend to not see him. He believed that one of these three best outcomes would happen: Either one day the bullies would just get bored of him, or Sugimura would stop coming to school and the bullying would stop, or somebody else would step in and save him. Yōsuke claimed that he just kept on thinking self-serving things like that. In the end, what the memory of what happened to Sugimura is burned into Yōsuke's mind. After the latter's morning soccer practice, he returned to his classroom. And there, he saw Sugimura. Though they were previously close to one another, Yōsuke hesitated before going in since, at the time, he felt uncomfortable. Even though he was a friend he played together with ever since they were children,

at the time he almost felt like a stranger to him. Yōsuke could not help but think cruel thoughts like he would be bullied along with him if he associated himself back with Sugimura. After a few moments, both of them weren't saying anything. Nothing could be heard and felt but a deafening silence and eerily cold atmosphere. That day, in the middle of class — where only these pair of precious friends were present, Sugimura jumped out the window. After being sent to the hospital, Sugimura was declared brain dead and even now, Sugimura's parents are still waiting for his recovery and believe in it. But whether he's still alive or dead now, Yōsuke doesn't know what to think about it. He believed that the events of that day were still so surreal as he still wonders if it was merely a dream or a hallucination. He claimed that the moment Sugimura jumped, he became acutely aware — that by treasuring only himself, Yōsuke pushed his precious friend, Sugimura, to his death. This is how Yōsuke attained his messiah complex. Though he thinks that this will not result in Sugimura's salvation, but, at the very least, he wants to repent by saving someone else like him — someone who experienced bullying to the extremes.”],

Honami's family isn't very well-off as her mother had it hard, working full-time as she alone raised two children all by herself without their father around to help. Ever since elementary school, Honami had made it her plan to get a job of her own after she finished middle school. Sincerely looking to increase her family's low-income and give them happiness, Honami thought that she could be of use to the two by seeking a job where she can work to earn money like her mother. Because it would cost a lot of money to get into high school, Honami's reason for searching for a job was so that she could help out not only herself but also her mother and sister financially as well.

In the end, this idea she had in mind couldn't come to pass because her mother was opposed to it. Nonetheless, even without the money, Honami did in fact successfully put in a lot of effort and time to study and developed her skills as hard as possible. Although she found sports rather difficult, Honami does try to put in as much effort into it as she did with her studies. Thanks to that, she was able to make use of the student scholarship system and reach the top of her middle school. As an honors student and a member of the student council in middle school, she was offered a spot at a private high school on a scholarship. By the time she became a 3rd year in middle school, Honami was even able to gain the title of student council president that she had longed sought after. During the summer of that year, she discovered her mother pushed herself too hard and collapsed while trying to support and raise their livelihood as a family. At some point in time later on, her mother would go through sudden hospitalization, leaving the former unable to buy her younger sister a birthday present. Seeing the anguish and ridicule her sister was showing to their mom for not getting her her first present, Honami figured the only way to restore her smile is that she the elder sister must be the one to do it in her mother's stead. So, after school on the day of her sister's birthday, Honami went to a department store and stole for the very first time a fashionable hair clip which was worth 10,000 yen without getting caught red-handed. Despite feeling guilty for having committed theft, she still went home and presented the hair clip to her sulking little sister which made the latter happy. Even though Honami had told her sister beforehand to keep the present a secret from their mom, she ended up wearing it anyway the next time they went to pay a visit to her in the hospital. Through that visit, her mother learned of the robbery she did in the store and became seriously angry with

honami to the point where she got slapped for it and took away the hair clip from her sister. Although her mother was supposed to stay hospitalized, Honami was forcibly dragged back to the store by the latter to return it. At the same time, Honami would prostrate on her hands and knees while begging for their forgiveness about the crime she had done to them. Whilst the store didn't hand her over to the police, the commotion about the theft she committed still did spread beyond her control. It is currently unclear as to what changes happened to Honami's relationship with her family members or about what it is like between them now that the incident has long been resolved. Without Kiyotaka's intervention, Honami would have never forgiven herself for what she had done or come to terms with it.
