Zenitsu Agatsuma (我あが妻つま善ぜん逸いつ, Agatsuma Zen'itsu?) is a Demon Hunter and a traveling companion of Tanjiro Kamado. He in turn is one of the main characters of Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Appearance

Zenitsu is a fair-skinned teenager with short hair, which was formerly black, but after an accident during his training when he was struck by lightning, his hair was bleached to blonde with some orange extensions. His eyes are a golden brown hue and his eyebrows are thick. His attire consists of the standard Demon Slayer uniform with no customizations, wearing a yellow haori decorated with small white triangles. During the events of Natagumo Mountain, Zenitsu was poisoned by demon spiders which caused his limbs to shrink, although after a brief recovery period, they returned to normal.

Personality

By nature, Zenitsu is a coward. He always claims that he doesn't have much time to live due to the dangerous job of being a Demon Hunter. He is also a bit of a womanizer and likes to flirt with girls he thinks are cute and asks them to marry him much to his annoyance. Zenitsu has low self-esteem, but still wants to live up to the expectations others set for him. However, he was constantly afraid and always cried and ran away. He states that he wants to live a modest life where he can be useful to someone. Despite all his lack of esteem, Zenitsu has great respect and admiration for his comrades and his deceased teacher, Jigoro Kuwajima. His concentration and drive to avenge him helped him overcome his cowardice and his doubts. Zenitsu's desire to find a girlfriend and get married is shown to override his docile personality, particularly when he believes his comrades are "flirting" with pretty girls, he soon becomes angry and begins to protest and complain hysterically leading to comic relief situations during the work. During these times he has also proven to be physically aggressive, lashing out at his frustrations.

History

Zenitsu was an orphan who had no guidance from any adult. Because of that, Zenitsu fell in love with a girl to whom he gave everything he owned, however she left with another and left Zenitsu with many debts. In the end, Jigoro Kuwajima paid off his debts and decided to train him as a swordsman.[1] Zenitsu saw the master as his grandfather, so he referred to him that way. He also trained with another partner, Kaigaku. One day, when he was training, he climbed a tree scared and with a negative and crying attitude. At that very moment a lightning bolt struck him, which made him fall to the ground, but miraculously he survived. This event caused Zenitsu's black hair to turn yellow.[2] The boy didn't get along very well with Kaigaku. However, he respected him and even confessed to having created his own stance, to fight alongside him. Final Selection Arc: Zenitsu is first introduced as one of the Hunter hopefuls on Mount Fujikasane. After completing the Final Selection quest, he is seen as one of the 4 survivors, along with Tanjiro Kamado, Kanao Tsuyuri, and Genya Shinazugawa. Zenitsu is shown to have a negative personality, constantly telling himself that he is going to die. At that very moment, everyone receives a Kasugaigarasu; Zenitsu receives a sparrow. [3]

Drum House Arch: Zenitsu was begging a girl to stay with him, Tanjiro watches him and Zenitsu's sparrow asks for help to stop him; Tanjiro understood perfectly, even though he was a bird. Zenitsu recognizes Tanjiro from the final selection test, but Tanjiro did not remember him. So Tanjiro sends the girl away and Zenitsu asks him not to interfere. And the girl starts hitting him and insulting him for bothering her. The boy starts blaming Tanjiro, so he asks him to protect him so he can get married before he dies. Finally the two introduce themselves and leave together. [4] The crow tells the two hunters where they should go for the next job, so they arrive in front of a house and find two children, a girl and a boy, hiding in the forest and crying. Zenitsu, due to his excellent hearing, tells Tanjiro that he heard the sound of a drum coming from the house. But his companion heard nothing. [5] Zenitsu and Tanjiro go into the house to see what was happening, Zenitsu was scared and asks Tanjiro to protect him, but he explains that he is still badly injured from his previous battle and Zenitsu panics even more. At that moment the children enter the house because they were scared. Suddenly the house begins to shake, Zenitsu gets scared and accidentally pushes the girl, Teruko and Tanjiro into a room, and suddenly they appear in another, so they separate and Zenitsu is left alone with the boy, Shoichi. [6] The hunter, Zenitsu, starts to get alarmed at being separated from Tanjiro and starts telling himself that he is going to die. The boy who was with him scolds him and tells him that he should be ashamed for behaving like that, so Zenitsu quickly starts to look for a way out and first encounters Inosuke, thinking that he is a monster. But he leaves the room and walks away.

Zenitsu continues to search for a way out, while doing so he encounters a demon and cowardly flees, the demon attacks them with its tongue and they are pushed into a room. The hunter collapses and falls "asleep", so the boy tries to wake him up and fails. The demon takes advantage to attack them but Zenitsu gets up and covers the boy to protect him. The hunter deploys his lightning breathing technique, first stance, lightning flash, giving a perfect stab and managing to cut off the demon's head. Finally the hunter reacts, believing that the boy killed the demon and he is only confused and does not say anything to Zenitsu. [7] Later Zenitsu is finally seen outside the house, protecting Tanjiro's box from the boar-headed boy. The blows that Zenitsu had received from this wild boy become noticeable, who told Zenitsu to get up and take out his sword. In the end, Tanjiro stops Inosuke and the three of them escort the children and then continue on their way. Natagumo Mountain Arch Zenitsu, Tanjiro, and Inosuke embark on their next mission to Natagumo Mountain. The three hunters arrive at night and, at the entrance to the mountains, one of their allies begins to crawl on the ground and ask for help, then literally flies away from them, so Tanjiro and Inosuke do not hesitate to follow the trail and see what it is about; Zenitsu stays there out of fear.[8] Zenitsu, realizing that Tanjiro was taking Nezuko away, decides to go after him to "protect" her. Chapter 29, page 02-04 While the hunter was determined to go deep into the mountain to rescue Nezuko, he finds spiders with human heads, and then meets the demon responsible for those strange spiders. At the same time, the demon warns him that it is too late to flee and Zenitsu realizes that his hand had been bitten by a spider, so he had 30 minutes left to become one. [9].

The hunter boy begins to panic as the spider-like demon mocked him. At that very moment, Zenitsu desperately climbs a tree, falls "unconscious" and begins to remember all the things his grandfather taught him during his hard training as a hunter. The spider simply begins to attack him and he easily dodges the attacks, to finally deploy the Lightning Breathing Technique, First Stance, Lightning Flash and give a perfect stab to the spider and cut off its head. [10] In the end, Zenitsu regains consciousness, feeling badly wounded. But at that moment Shinobu finds him and the hunters' rescue group comes to his aid. Functional Recovery Training Arc: After the events at Natagumo Mountain, Zenitsu was complaining to Kiyo about the medicine he was given to recover from the spider demon's poison. At that moment, Tanjiro and Aoi arrive and the latter begins to scold Zenitsu for his constant complaints. In turn, Tanjiro asks him about Inosuke and Murata, but he says he does not know who Murata is and that Inosuke was resting next to him. Zenitsu explains that his friend's throat was seriously injured. The training and rehabilitation of the three hunters begins. First Inosuke and Tanjiro, and then Zenitsu joins them. He, seeing all the activities they had to do, calls his friends aside and begins to scold them for complaining so much when the activities they did were like being in heaven, since his friends always complained when they finished them. Zenitsu enjoyed all the activities and won them easily. The first one was a massage, the second was catching, and the last one was to touch the tea cup faster than his opponent and throw it in his face; Zenitsu did not do the latter. Kanao takes action and beats all 3 hunters, so Zenitsu and Inosuke decide not to continue with the training. [12] In the end, with Shinobu's help, Zenitsu and Inosuke are encouraged and decide to resume their activities to continue training and then embark on their next mission.[13]

Powers and Abilities

Natural: Heightened Hearing: Zenitsu's sense of hearing is acute enough to hear even the most distant sound vibrations around him. As time goes on, Zenitsu's hearing allows him to hear even the most hidden thoughts of the person. Unconscious Combat: Zenitsu becomes stronger when he sleeps. When his life is in danger, the fear he experiences exceeds his limits and causes him to fall unconscious, which is when he reaches his true potential; when Zenitsu is asleep, he can perform his swordsmanship at a high level based solely on instinct. However, as the story progresses, he continues to improve his skills and courage and relies on this ability less and less, beginning to display the same skill and bravery when he is conscious. Fencing: "Lightning Breath" (雷かみなりの呼こ吸きゅう,, Kaminari no kokyū?): Taught to Zenitsu by a former Pillar, Jigoro Kuwajima (his Master). This technique increases the user's strength and agility to match that of a Demon. There are a total of six different stances within Lightning Breath, but Zenitsu was not that talented as he was only able to learn the first of the six styles, which is said to be the most basic. However, Zenitsu has managed to develop a seventh stance on his own based on dedicated training in order to defeat his fellow student, Kaigaku. Zenitsu has perfected this ability to the point of being able to repeat the move multiple times in rapid succession.[3] Zenitsu usually uses the move in the "Six-Fold" (六ろく連れん, Rokuren?) (six steps) variation, but has been able to use the Eight-Fold (八はち連れん, Hachiren?)[4] variation to rapidly move up to eight times in a row and use the technique at the same time.[5]

"Speed ​​of the Gods" (神しん速そく, Shinsoku?) - Zenitsu can use this technique to further increase the speed of his Thunder Flash. The only catch is that he can only use this ability twice per day. After the second time, his legs become useless as they break. "Seventh Stance: God of Thunder in Flames" (漆しちノ型かた 火ほの雷いかづちの神かみ, Shichi no kata: Honoikazuchi no kami?)[6] - This stance was created by Zenitsu on his own. The user creates a dragon-like creature that emits fire and thunder. This stance in combination with the Speed ​​of the Gods was what allowed him to defeat his former entertainment partner and Upper Moon Six Kaigaku. Shortly before Kaigaku died, Zenitsu confesses to him that he created this stance himself in hopes of fighting by his side one day.
