Hunter, formerly known as the Golden Guard, is a major character in The Owl House, initially depicted as an antagonist. He was the right-hand man of Emperor Belos and the former leader of the Emperor's Coven. Hunter was supposed to be Belos' nephew and as such was dedicated to his cause of wiping out all wild magic in the kingdom, but in reality, he is the latest version of the Golden Guard clones, created by Belos to faithfully serve him in his mad quest.[4] After becoming the leader of the Emperor's Coven, the Golden Guard acts as Emperor Belos' chief enforcer and antagonist to the residents of the Owl House. However, a chance encounter with Luz Noceda and a meeting with a mysterious talifriend named Flapjack, who chooses Hunter as his partner, gives Hunter a new perspective on life outside of the Emperor's Coven. This soon culminates in Hunter learning the truth of his origins. Following this discovery, and realizing he can never return, Hunter abandons Belos and the Emperor's Coven altogether. Following his defection, Hunter moved to the Hexside School of Magic and Demons to hide from the Emperor's grasp. There, he found acquaintances in the students of Hexside, and after accepting his identity, Hunter set out to help them oppose Belos' plan to wipe out the Demon Realm.

⋆｡𖦹° 𝙵𝙸𝚂𝙸𝙲𝙾 + 𝚁𝙾𝙿𝙰⭒˚｡⋆

Hunter, like many of the Gold Guards before him, was created in the likeness of Belos's late older brother, Caleb Wittebane.[6] He is a humanoid boy who shares the physical traits of a witch, such as pointed ears. He has a fair complexion, a slightly hooked nose, dark magenta eyes, thick black eyebrows, a gap between his front teeth, bags under his eyes, and ash blonde hair shaved low on top, with a long, patchy bang. He has a notch on his left ear, and scars on his right cheek, left upper arm, two on his right kneecap, forming an X mark, and one on his left calf. Additionally, he has a sigil of the Emperor's Coven marked on his right wrist. He is described as scrawny by Amity in "Eclipse Lake", though he has a larger build compared to characters such as Luz.

Despite his laid-back personality, Hunter is easily upset when things don't go his way, as seen in his interactions with Luz. He also seems to have a fascination with wild magic, despite Belos telling him not to, and is seen freaking out on Luz. He also seems to have a soft side, as he was disgusted by the apparent murder of the Selkidomus,[7] as well as being visibly affected by Luz's words when he tried to betray her.[9] His softer side becomes more prominent later on when he bonds with his new friend, not only beginning to genuinely care for him,[8] but all of the other friends who are suffering.[10] He was very loyal to Belos at first, even worrying about his "uncle's" condition whenever Belos transformed. He occasionally offered alternatives to help Emperor Belos with wild magic, but also feared his reaction at the mere mention of it. However, his loyalty was not absolute; he continually wondered why Emperor Belos had such a strong hatred for wild magic, yet Belos discouraged or even threatened him whenever he ever brought up the idea. Furthermore, Hunter was unwilling to hand Flapjack over to Emperor Belos after the bird chose him as a mate.

Who is Willow Park?

Willow is a shorter than average girl, plus-sized and stocky, with fair skin, pointy ears, olive green eyes and short, clean, dark navy blue hair with a few loose strands. Willow wears a pair of round, gold-framed glasses and the typical Hexside student uniform, which consists of a grey tunic and a dark grey hood and a belt with a gold pin and grey-black short-heeled shoes. Originally, her sleeves and tights were orchid-colored as part of her enrollment in the Abomination Track, but after switching them to the Plant Track, they changed to green. Prior to "A Stormy Sport", the frames of her glasses were black and she wore the standard boots. When not in school, Willow wears a yellowish-brown long-sleeved dress that has a blue tie with a chartreuse oval gem, light and dark grey striped leggings, and brown boots. As of "Clouds on the Horizon", she sports a yellowish-brown sleeveless vest over a pale green, half-sleeved shirt with a gold button, white collar and cuffs, blue shorts, silver and slate grey leggings, and maroon heeled boots with light blue tights underneath. He keeps his blue tie, but with a gold gem.

Who is Luz Noceda?

Luz is a Dominican-American teenage girl with tanned skin, short dark brown hair that is usually styled in a pixie cut, and brown eyes. During her fight against Emperor Belos in "King's Tide", Luz suffers an injury that leaves a scar on her left eyebrow. Over the course of her time on Earth, her hair begins to grow, giving her a curlier appearance. Her clothing consists of a pair of ebony earrings, a half-white and half-indigo short-sleeved hoodie with cat ears attached to the hood, high-waisted denim shorts, dark grey capris, and a pair of white loafers. When in Hexside, her school uniform has six different colors, separated with irregular divisions. Each of her sleeves has two shades of the same color, with the lighter shades near the cuffs: mint on the right, violet on the left. His pants legs are similarly divided, but use different shades, with red and magenta for the right leg and blue and cyan for the left leg. Curiously, his uniform does not display the colors of the Potions, Construction, and Beast Maintenance classes.

Who is Gus Porter?

Gus is a boy, noticeably shorter than Luz, Amity, and Willow, with dark brown skin and dark brown hair with lighter shades. His upper lip is curved, similar to Luz's. Like all witches and demons on the Boiling Isles, he has pointed ears. His eyes are dark blue. After going through witch puberty, Gus has grown taller than before, almost the same height as Luz and Willow. Additionally, Gus's facial features have become sharper and more angular, and his eyes now have visible pupils. When attending Hexside, Gus wears a grey robe with a dark grey belt, hood, and boots. As he is part of the Illusion Track, the color of his sleeves and leggings are light blue. When not in Hexside, Gus wears a cyan robe with greyish-white sleeves and a black belt. He also wears charcoal grey tights and dark purple boots. As of "Clouds on the Horizon", he wears a lighter cyan robe with loose white sleeves, a fuchsia belt and lining, steel blue tights, and violet-red boots. He has the magic amplifier he took from Adrian hanging around his neck. Gus is a young and precocious warlock. He is known for being very enthusiastic and excitable. In contrast to his usual cheerful attitude towards most activities and interactions, Gus has admitted to being rather insecure about his age. He feels neglected for being younger than most others, and as such, tries to act assertively so as not to be left behind. This has also led him to be very welcoming to newcomers, as he is able to understand and empathize.

Who is Flapjack?

Flapjack is a bird-like Amity, similar to a Northern Cardinal, with a scar where his left eye would be, red feathers with dark red wing tips, a dark red beak, dark brown legs, and a black face. He is shown to be able to open both of his eyes in "Amity Hunt". In staff form, his staff is maroon in color. According to Hunter, his staff has a few nicks in it. Flapjack is shown to be an inquisitive and free-spirited Amity, as he was curious to explore outside of the Amity pen before being herded back inside. He is loyal and persistent, initially following Hunter around and staying by his side despite his protests. Flapjack is also shown to be caring, attempting several times to pressure Hunter into talking to Amity and later even breaking off a gooseberry to share with him despite it being all he had to eat.[1] He appears to be secretive when it comes to his past, avoiding the topic when Hunter asks about it. Flapjack is also shown to be intelligent and helpful, freeing Luz from her restraints in "Taliamigo Hunt", going in and out of his wooden form to avoid capture and help his witch, as well as nudging Hunter in the right direction to help him befriend Gus after trying to find food for him.
