Persona Attributes

Despite her traditional upbringing, Yui Kimura raced scooters in her hometown of Hida where she earned the reputation of being able to do the impossible with very little. Her father did his best to steer her away from what he believed to be masculine pursuits, but her grandmother secretly shared her grandfather's engineer manuals and notes on car and motorcycle engines. Yui read her grandfather's manuals and learned fast. She was able to not only maintain her scooter, but she modified the engine

In the Public Test Build for Cursed Legacy, she didn't have her own voice-over. The developers instead used Meg Thomas's voice lines as a placeholder. In Japanese, one's last name comes before their first name, hence why Yui was named Kimura Yui instead of Yui Kimura in the Cursed Legacy DLC Trailer. The name Yui (結衣) consists of the characters yu (結), meaning tie or link, and i (衣), meaning clothing. The last name Kimura (木村) consists of the characters ki (木), meaning tree or wood, and mura (村), meaning town or village. During the PTB, her name was "Yui Enatsu". According to a Developer quote from the Fifth Year Anniversary, Yui was featured in Hida's news, and mentioned by their mayor, when the Kumi-Daiko Performer Outfit was released. Yui was the first Survivor to be released with dyed hair. During the development of the Silent Hill Chapter, Akira Yamaoka composed a song for Yui which is from her point-of-view and sung by her. It is called Tsuki no yō ni (Like The Moon). Motif Hachimakis (鉢巻, "helmet-scarfs") are stylised headbands in the Japanese culture that symbolize effort or courage by the wearer. They are sometimes worn by race winners in Japan, correlating to Yui's backstory. Yui's Hachimaki, as seen from one of her lore images, contains the following inscription: 七転び八起き (Nanakorobi yaoki). This is a common Japanese idiom, literally meaning "fall down seven times, get up eight times," referring to picking yourself up even after repeated failures. Yui wears her hachimaki in each of her torso cosmetics. Lore Hida, Yui's birthplace, is a real city in the central part of Japan. Her gang's name, "Sakura 7", is based on the Japanese name for cherry blossoms, 桜 (Sakura).
