History

In the game’s event story of ‘Plan, Hope and Effort’, she appears alongside Takao as a ship belonging to the Sakura Empire. They succeed in defeating the main character of the story, the Prince of Wales, and other Imperial Fleet after clashing with them. The story follows the Malay naval battles in real history and is described as one of the moments that put an end to the idea of naval shipbuilding and naval battles. For both Atago and the Prince of Wales, regardless of victory or defeat, it is bittersweet because the end of giant ship proprietorship and the idea of decisive battle with the fleet is none other than their end. Atago, rather than being happy despite winning against the enemy fleet, said, “Even the heavy armor of the Imperial Fleet is so weak that it splits like that in front of an attacking aircraft’s torpedoes.” She leaves behind a slightly bittersweet smile. However, the upper part of the Sakura Empire seems unable to abandon their lingering attachments to the ideology of giant warships and fleet battles, even though they have brought about this innovation by mobilizing aircraft carriers. Takao is feeling bitter as he foresees their future, and Atago points this out right next to him with a relaxed smile. Because the empire is still obsessed with the ‘decisive battle’, it is predicted that they will still be needed, and therefore they will not be abandoned. So far, the Sakura Empire seems to be following the steps of the actual Japanese Empire almost as it is, but if there is no particular change, the ending will definitely appear in the worst form from the point of view of the empire.
