Dimitri has already lost any semblance of happiness and composure he had as a student, becoming brooding, cynical and ruthless. When reunited with his former classmates, he is brusque and coldly dismisses them as mere tools to achieve his revenge. He has even become more sinister, he sees death as an everyday occurrence and has become more insensitive to it, but he still has a possessive tendency to obsessively care for the only things he has left. He is known by his peers as someone feral and bitter, always being in church praying to try to seek redemption within himself.

History

Dimitri is framed by royal mage Cornelia for the murder of his uncle, Rufus. He is imprisoned in the Kingdom, but escapes with the help of Dedue and is presumed dead, allowing Cornelia to turn Faerghus into an Adrestian puppet state. Dimitri then spends the next five years living a solitary existence as a vagabond, gaining a fearsome reputation as a warrior responsible for slaying scores of soldiers, and at some point losing his right eye. During this time, his mental state severly deteriorates, being haunted by visions of his dead loved ones, and wanting to kill Edelgard to avenge them, no matter the cost.

Dimitri was born the crown prince of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus to King Lambert; his mother died from a plague ravaging the kingdom before he was older enough to remember her. Lambert would eventually marry a woman named Patricia, who was actually Anselma von Arundel, former consort of Adrestian Emperor Ionius IX. His entire family died in an assassination attempt in Duscur, he was the only one left alive and from there he searches for the one who planned the entire attack to avenge his family. He says he can see his ghosts demanding revenge, causing his mental state to deteriorate further.
