Vassago, like most Goetias, is a lanky demon who closely resembles a scarlet macaw, with red feathers, a white face, and a hooked black beak. He also has rather long purple feathers tipped with gold on the back of his head with a gold-colored stripe down the center and red eyes without irises or pupils that are often depicted covered by a pair of yellow visors that vaguely resemble a crown. Clothing-wise, Vassago wears an outfit resembling that of a wizard, consisting of a red suit jacket with a high collar with gold trim, black lapels, a star brooch, and a rather long and extravagant tail with black trim, the top portion being purple while the bottom portion is a two-toned gradient of orange. Over this, he wears a white shirt with two black buttons down the center. Vassago's attire also includes black pants, white arm-length gloves, and thigh-high high-heeled boots; his gloves have torn black cuffs and two red stripes down the front, while his boots have black heel and toe tips, as well as an "X" shape at the bottom center.

Vassago is shown to be a nervous and conscientious demon within Hell's royal hierarchy, though unlike most of the aristocratic elite, he holds the responsibilities of Hell's government in high regard. As such, he expressed displeasure at injustice and harm, especially when the matter of Goetia like Stolas was involved. This was demonstrated during Blitzo's trial when he noticed Stolas' absence and advocated that it was necessary to bring him in, and later became genuinely disturbed when Andrealphus accused Blitzo of being responsible for Stolas's attempted assassination. Similarly, he expressed annoyance at Andrealphus's condescending attitude and attempts to win the case against Stolas, even going so far as to call Andrealphus an arrogant asshole for his comments. Vassago has a tendency to switch between English and Spanish in conversations with other demons, though he seems to switch more to the latter in moments of great emotion. He also seems to have a capricious taste in music, as he was moved when Stolas announced he would present his defense in song.
