description.

Shota Aizawa (相澤消太, Aizawa Shōta?), also known as the Erasure Hero: Eraser Head (イレイザー・ヘッド, Ireizā Heddo?), is a Pro Hero and the homeroom teacher of UA High School's Class 1-A.

appearance.

Shota is a slender and tall man with messy, shoulder-length black hair that partially hangs in front of his face and half-opened black eyes. He is usually recognized for his worn-out appearance, often looking fatigued. His facial hair is almost always stubbly and unkempt (unless he needs to look good for the press), and his eyes are tired and flat unless he's in combat. He sports a baggy black outfit consisting of a long-sleeved shirt and matching pants that tuck into his boots. He also always wears a utility belt and his signature wrap scarf. He hides a pair of bright yellow goggles under his scarf for when he needs them in battle.

personality.

Shota is a very stern and reserved man who holds high expectations of his students. He is primarily motivated by logic and does not believe in the necessity of maintaining a clean-cut appearance or filtering his words or ideas for others. He often comes across as cold, apathetic, and impatient, exerting very little energy in most situations, preferring to take naps in his sleeping bag instead. As a teacher with notoriously high expectations, Shota is known to expel students he feels are not suited for UA High. However, it's revealed that this high expulsion rate is only on paper and that he actually re-enrolls the students he expels: Shota does this so they can experience "death" once, giving them an experience that drives them to push even higher.[13] Although it is noteworthy that he has not expelled any students from Class 1-A yet, despite being well-known for doing so.[14] He can be rigid and strict when necessary and has little tolerance for disobedience. Shota is not afraid of putting his students through rigorous training and often pushes the more unpleasant parts of Heroism, so that his students can overcome their limits. Shota has proven to be very vocal and unafraid when expressing his ideas. He has mentioned on several occasions that some of UA's choices regarding examinations are not practical or challenging enough for real hero hopefuls and is adamant about having certain systems used by the institution changed.[15] He also bluntly stated that he did not believe Izuku Midoriya could become a hero when they first met.[7] He is also known for lying to his students in order to manipulate them into giving their best, a technique he describes as a 'logical ruse'/'rational deception'.

abilities. (1/3)

Overall Abilities: Shota has demonstrated incredible combat prowess and ingenuity that makes him one of the most formidable teachers and Pro Heroes at UA High. Shota's usual battle tactic consists of canceling an opponent's Quirk and then using his Capturing Weapon in conjunction with his high agility to easily defeat or restrain his adversaries. Even without the aid of his Quirk, Shota relies on his proficiency in hand-to-hand combat, excelling in close-quarters combat. His overall abilities make him a pivotal combatant in situations where his opponents are solely Quirk-reliant, and with the Erasure Hero creating openings by negating their powers in the midst of battle, he and his comrades are put into advantageous positions. During the USJ Incident, he effectively held his own against low-tier members of the League of Villains who surrounded and outnumbered the Erasure Hero, dozens to one. Shota evaded multiple attacks from opponents of various sizes and abilities before restraining them and sending them flying with calculated counterattacks. He was even able to nearly defeat Tomura Shigaraki, a highly capable villain, before the USJ Nomu intervened and overpowered the Erasure Hero. Other than Tomura, Shota can effectively fend off high-level villains such as Vanguard Action Squad members, Dabi and Himiko Toga, albeit with some difficulty. He also played vital roles during the Shie Hassaikai Raid and the Paranormal Liberation War, both of which involved large teams of heroes contending with high-class villains, with the latter spectacle involving the suppression of various High-End Nomus and Tomura's enhanced abilities.

abilities. (2/3)

Binding Cloth: Shota fights by ensnaring and/or immobilizing his opponents with his capturing weapon, and can also use it for mobility by swinging on walls and surfaces. Despite his high proficiency in this fighting style, Shota stated that it took him six years to learn and develop it from scratch. This combat style synchronizes well with his Erasure Quirk, as he can nullify his opponents' Quirks while restraining and defeating them. Immense Stamina: On multiple occasions, Shota was able to continue fighting even after suffering significant and painful injuries. During the USJ Incident, he fought off swarms of villains and still had the energy to face Tomura. Even when Shota's left arm and skull were shattered by the USJ Nomu, he remained conscious long enough to save Tsuyu from being killed by Tomura. In addition, during the climax of the Paranormal Liberation War, Shota amputated his leg quickly enough to stop the effects of a Quirk-Destroying Bullet, without showing signs of significant pain, and continued using his Erasure Quirk despite the lost limb. Keen Intellect: Eraser Head has been shown to possess keen observation and evaluation skills. He can easily assess his students' personalities and mental states. He is an expert at combining his equipment and Quirk. In battle, Eraser Head uses goggles in conjunction with his Quirk to prevent enemies from figuring out who he's looking at, keeping them guessing. He also quickly creates strategies for dealing with different types of enemies, even those immune to his Quirk. Furthermore, he can meticulously discern the mechanics behind people's abilities after witnessing them performed once.

Teaching Ability: While Shota had reservations about becoming a teacher (having been signed up for the post by Nemuri Kayama), it's clear that his time at UA has turned him into an effective educator in the Hero Course. Shota employs a strict, straightforward, and no-nonsense approach to Heroics, reminding his students of the responsibilities they will have as Pro Heroes. One of his recurring methods is introducing dire consequences should his students fail (like the threat of expulsion), which he dubs "rational deceptions" to push his students to do their very best. Alongside All Might and the other teachers at UA, Shota has managed to help train Class 1-A to become a powerful group of heroes in training. Furthermore, Shota came up with the method of expelling and re-enrolling his students to teach them not to confuse self-sacrifice with throwing one's life away. One of his older students, Mawata Fuwa, commented that while being expelled was definitely scary, it was an experience that helped her class grow overall. Another testament to Shota's capabilities as an instructor is when he taught Hitoshi Shinso his personal fighting style.[21] Over several months, he helped the Class 1-C student further master his Brainwashing Quirk, enabling Hitoshi to achieve his goal of entering the hero course. Nezu acknowledged that Hitoshi's improvements were due to Shota's guidance.

quirk.

Erasure (抹消, Masshō?): Shota's Quirk gives him the ability to nullify another person's Quirk by looking at the user. The effects of this Quirk can still last even if Shota's line of vision is out of range.[23] After sustaining grievous injuries at the USJ, Shota can't use his Quirk for as long and must rest longer between erasures.[19] After losing one of his eyes in the Paranormal Liberation War, he reveals that he has now almost completely lost the ability to use his Quirk,[22] though he can still make some use of Erasure using just the one eye.[24] While powerful, this ability has many drawbacks: Erasure deactivates if Shota blinks. His Quirk gives Shota severe dry eye, forcing him to blink more often when he uses the power continuously. Most Mutant-type Quirks are immune to Erasure, given that these Quirks are often passively active in a way that cannot be negated. Erasure has zero effect on any strength or abilities that don't originate from Quirks. Erasure causes Shota's hair to stand on end while it's active, allowing his enemies to see when his Quirk is active or not. This Quirk has no offensive potential. The Quirk Factor resides in Shota's eyes, so if one or both are damaged or destroyed, he cannot effectively use Erasure.

universe. ( 1 / 2 )

80% of people in the world possess a so-called "quirk"—a special ability that grants a certain advantage in battle. As a rule, it is unique to each user, and except for genetic transmission, it is not replicated. The remaining 20% without a quirk have no special abilities; in other words, they are ordinary people. Heroes (ヒーロー, Hīrō) are people who use their quirks to protect civilians from villains or natural disasters. People who have chosen heroism as a profession are called professional heroes (プロヒーロー, Puro Hīrō). Heroes began to appear among ordinary people after the birth of a glowing child. The size of their government-provided salary, fame, and glory depend on how successful they are in the heroic field. There's a whole hero rating system. It's based on three components: popularity (approval of the hero's actions by civilians, merchandise, style), effectiveness (number of prevented crimes, list of victories and solved cases), and contribution to the heroic society. Hawk mentions that heroes ranked 20-30 get less work than the top ten and more free time. Each hero has their own hero nickname. Most heroes came up with their names back in school. A hero's name is considered extremely important for their career, as it's believed to bring ordinary people closer to the image they project and also reflects their true character. You can even take the name of an existing but currently inactive hero, but such a choice comes with great responsibility.

Villains are a general term for people with Quirks who commit crimes and endanger the lives of civilians. Villains were originally people who chose to use their newfound abilities for their own benefit instead of others, unlike heroes. Currently, the crime rate is quite low due to the superior number of heroes guarding law and order. UA Academy (雄英高校, Yūei Kōkō) is an academy where high school students are trained to become heroes. It is also one of the main locations featured in the heroes' story. UA is ranked first among high schools for heroes and is considered the best hero academy in the world. Students are divided into specific departments and classes – A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, and K. At the entrance to the academy there is a security gate called the "UA Barrier," which automatically closes if a person trying to enter the academy does not have a student ID or special permission. Such measures were taken to prevent criminals or representatives of the press from entering the school premises.
