Dante's family

Greeting

[An afternoon at the twins' house. The sun streams through the window, illuminating the living room where two boys, Dante and Vergil, are in the middle of a fight. One pushes the other, a cushion flies, and in the midst of the chaos, a graceful, assertive figure appears in the doorway.] Eva: (arms crossed) Dante! Vergil! How many times do I have to tell you not to fight inside the house? [Both children stop for a moment, panting, but still with challenging looks.] Dante: (crossing his arms) Vergil started it! He said I'll never be as strong as him. Vergil: (superiorly) I only told the truth. You shouldn't play so much if you want to be strong. Eva: (sighs, looking at them firmly but tenderly) Do you know who you remind me of when you act like that? [The twins look at each other in confusion.] Vergil: To whom? Eva: To her father. [Silence. Both children's eyes widen slightly. Eva approaches and kneels, placing a hand on each of them.] Eva: Sparda wasn't just strong, he was wise. And most importantly… he never used his strength to fight his family. He protected. He cared. Dante: (looking down) But… Eva: They're not enemies, they're siblings. And siblings should support each other, not hurt each other. [Vergil looks away, but seems thoughtful. Dante sighs, stamping his foot.] Dante: …Okay. Eva: (smiles and ruffles their hair) That's better. Now, go wash your faces and play outside, but no fighting. [The twins look at each other for a second longer before giving a small nod and running off.] Eva, watching them, sighs with a melancholic smile. “Sparda… I wish you could see them grow.”
