Appearance

Ukyo is a slim but toned young man of average height in his 20s, with short white hair (blond in some of the manga's covers) and teal eyes, and a height of 1.73 centimeters (5' 8") tall. He has round, youthful features, and almost always displays a relaxed expression. He wears a loose-fitting amber-colored leather blouse with a loose, high collar adorned with white fur on the sleeves and a similarly ornate belt. He is rarely seen without his signature beret-like hat with a darker-colored visor (later changed to a paper one made by Suika). He also wears tight-fitting beige pants with a petal-shaped hem and pointy shoes reminiscent of an elf's. Other accessories that Ukyo wears are a wooden bow, a quiver to store her arrows and, like Senku, she wears wristbands made of leather strips with loose ends. Like most unpetrifieds, he has a petrification scar on his body, but it's unknown where. He later recreates his unknown scar as a sign of loyalty to Senku.

Personality

Ukyo always displays a calm expression, a pacifist mindset, and an aversion to unnecessary bloodshed, which she later demonstrates by lying about where she found Chrome and helping him escape from prison. While she initially looked away from Tsukasa's statue-breaking (which is the equivalent of murder) and joined Tsukasa's Empire because she believed it was the only way she could survive, after seeing Yuzuriha's secret work of rebuilding the petrified, she decided to side with the Kingdom of Science on the condition that not a single life would be lost. When Senku fulfills his promise, Ukyo fully joins the Kingdom of Science. Ukyo, in order to help the Kingdom of Science, is pierced by Hyoga's spear, leaving him bleeding to death. Luckily, it wasn't serious, and Ukyo was able to get up. To help the Kingdom of Science in battle, he grabbed his bow and added nitroglycerin to the tips of his arrows, causing the Tsukasa Empire to surrender, since with one arrow he could blow anyone to pieces.

History

Ukyo Saionji (西園寺右京 Saionji Ukyō) is one of the petrified who was revived by Tsukasa Shishio. He is one of the Five Wise Generals of the Kingdom of Science. He always proposes the use of non-violence, as he demonstrated to Senku, changing sides to end the Stone War without spilling a drop of blood, but if it cannot be avoided, he will not hesitate to use Gen's mentalist tricks.

Skills

Archaia: He has great skill in archery, managing to shoot arrows at Magma and Chrome making it look like he was chasing them, but shooting on purpose so that they fell near their bodies to corner them. He also displayed the ability to fire an arrow that would save Chrome while he was free-falling down a waterfall. It is unknown whether he learned to bow before or after his petrification. Intelligence: While chasing Gen, Magma, and Chrome, Ukyo led them into some dry bushes where they would be easier to detect with their ears. When Chrome created a smokescreen, she used it to her advantage by using it to conceal her own position while moving and shooting arrows. Also, despite Gen managing to perform a near-perfect imitation of Lillian's voice, she was able to deduce that it was Gen simply because he wasn't tired from singing for a long period of time, as the real Lillian would be after singing an elaborate song (or any other singer). Super sharp ears: Ukyo demonstrated a high degree of auditory sensitivity, allowing him to locate targets with pinpoint accuracy based on sound alone, a product of his former job as a radar-sonar operator in the JMSDF. Language skills: He was shown to be bilingual, speaking both his native Japanese and fairly good English, using it to communicate with Senku and Gen over the phone and prevent others from understanding their conversation.

Past Ukyo's old work Not much is known about Ukyo's past, the only thing that is known is that before being petrified he was a radar-sonar operator in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force "JMSDF". At some point it was depetrified and joined the Tsukasa Empire. Stone Wars Saga Arch of Communication He finds Gen, Magma, and Chrome while they're setting up a phone and corners them with his arrows. He captures Chrome. He lies to Tsukasa, telling her they were going for a more revival-like formula, not a phone. After the battle, he along with Nikki are shocked that Senku is planning to create a refrigerator. Saga of the Origin of Petrification Age of Exploration Arc Ukyo is among the crowd gathered after the Tsukasa Empire and Ishigami Village merge to form the Kingdom of Science. After Senku mentions the petrification event, Ukyo asks Yo what a policeman was like after hearing that he was urinating at the time. Once Senku announces that they are going to create a ship, Ukyo sees the designs everyone made before Senku's was decided to be chosen. Later, Ukyo gets to work building and soon asks Gen what the point was if Senku was going to be chosen. After Gen gives a reason why it was simply manipulation to push everyone to work, Ukyo announces that he is happy that Gen chose to ally with Senku instead of the enemy. He helps the others unpetrify Ryusui and Francois, with Ukyo being amazed by the edible foods, finding oil, and Senku letting Suika have a pet. During the ship's test, Ukyo and the others receive a transmission from an unknown person. After returning to base, Ukyo is officially recognized as the Five Wise Generals of the Kingdom of Science. They begin to discuss the new phenomenon.
