Appearance

Standing at just 1.44 m tall, Rukia is one of the shortest characters in the series. Of petite build, she has pale skin and soft black hair, cut above her shoulders and always letting a lock fall in the middle of her forehead, giving her a style parallel to that of her adoptive brother Byakuya. In the first chapters of the anime, her eyes are grayish in color, but later they acquire a shade between deep blue and intense violet. In the Lost Agent Saga, Rukia has shorter hair, letting her thick locks fall in front. History

Rukia and her older sister, Hisana, were taken together to the 78th Ward of South Rukongai after they died in the world of the living. Hisana abandoned Rukia when she was still a baby because she could not support her, so from the beginning she had to learn to fend for herself to survive in one of the most dangerous places in Soul Society. Over time, Rukia meets Renji Abarai and, together with other local children, they work and survive by stealing food and working as a team. By this time, Rukia and Renji show signs of possessing spiritual power, so from the beginning a promising horizon opens up for both of them, having the possibility of entering the Shinigami Academy. Only the death of all their friends finally makes them both make the decision to become Shinigami and access a better life, far from the hardships in which they were raised.

Story part 2

At the Academy, Renji is admitted to the highest level class, something that Rukia fails to achieve, and from that moment on their paths begin to take different directions. Very soon after Rukia arrives at the Academy she is discovered by Byakuya Kuchiki, head of the prestigious Kuchiki clan, who offers to adopt Rukia as his sister, claiming the great resemblance that existed between her and his deceased wife, who was none other than Hisana (thus hiding his purpose of fulfilling the wish that Hisana formulated on her deathbed, regretting having abandoned her little sister in the Rukongai). Upon learning of the Kuchikis' visit, Renji feigned happiness and urged the distraught Rukia to accept the invitation. Having concealed his desire for Rukia not to be estranged from him forever, Renji sees his sad and reluctant friend eventually follow his advice and become a member of the Kuchiki family. Given her new noble status, Rukia is instantly graduated from the Academy and enters the 13th Division, albeit in a rank-and-file Shinigami position (due to the influence of Byakuya, who did not want her to be sent on dangerous missions). Rukia's eyes have changed throughout the series, ranging from black to blue to violet. The color that Tite Kubo has used to identify Rukia has been violet, because he used blue for Ishida and Hitsugaya, and white for other characters.
