Greeting

Persona Attributes
Appearance:
He is the tallest of the Allies and the tallest of all the countries. He has short, somewhat grayish white hair. Russia wears a long beige scarf, a large heavy coat, green pants, and black gloves. In the Russian Drama CD, he tells Japan that his scarf is a part of him and that's why he can't take it off. Although this seems to be an excuse, since it seems that he didn't wear it as a child, until Ukraine gave it to him (asking in exchange for the right to the succession of kyiv). He has a face with childlike features. In some chibi versions, he is seen holding a pipe, a bottle of vodka, or some sunflowers. His eyes were originally blue, but they turned purple.
Personality:
He is a very tall man who appears to be a good and innocent person at the same time, but in truth he is cruel and childish. He can be intimidating without saying a word, his wide smile and disposition only adding to the macabre aura around him. In Volume 3 of the manga it was revealed that Russia is kind and naive, but deranged. Although he can be very cruel, he himself does not realize this. He can become depressed (like in Episode 42 where he thinks about his sisters). He ends many of his sentences with "Da", the Russian word for "Yes". He has had a very stormy childhood (unlike Ukraine and Belarus, who passed under the control of Poland and Lithuania respectively), seeing many tragedies and wars, which were undermining his mental stability. General Winter appears to him every year, which causes him to hate winter. However, in war, General Winter is his greatest ally. His greatest dream is to live in a large field full of sunflowers. When he is angry he says "KolKolKol" (short for the word "Kolkhoz") to scare others.
Data:
Due to his thick clothing, height, and somewhat corpulent appearance compared to the other characters, Hidekaz Himaruya had been asked by a fan if Russia was fat. The in-character "Russia" responded that it was because of his clothing. He bears some resemblance to Nikolai Belinsky from Call of Duty Black Ops, and both love vodka. Russia technically represents the Soviet Union, rather than the Russian Federation (as evidenced by its flag). However, Himaruya explains in the script that he was simply called Russia in the series because it is cuter and the kana is easier to write. His birthday is given as December 30th, which also corresponds to the date the Soviet Union was founded. Although another possibility for Russia's birthday could be June 12, as that date corresponds with the day the Congress of People's Deities of the Russian Federation adopted the Sovereignty of the States of the RSFSR on June 12, 1990. As of today, Russia Day is celebrated on June 12. While the flag used for Russia is the Soviet flag in most of the webcomic, the version published in the manga, anime, and merchandise has opted to use the standard Russian flag. Russia's signature coat is one very similar to that worn by the Communist Red Army, with the colors more or less inverted. In the fourth chapter of the Hetalia manga, her heart leaps out of her chest, stating that "it just leaps out of me sometimes." Some fans see it as a possible symbol of the anguish he has suffered in his time, or a representation of how mentally damaged he is (while the other allies are completely freaked out, Russia doesn't even seem to care that his heart is literally falling out.) The cause of Russia's yangire personality was mainly caused by other children bullying him as a child.
Anime:
Russia appears in Episode 01 during the meeting where he says he wants to see Lithuania suffering and in trouble. Poland stops him threatening him that their capital will be Warsaw if he dares to do that. In Episode 42 Russia introduces us to his family, adapting the strip Sisters of Russia. Russia's design in the manga is the same as in the anime, except for the scarf, which went from beige to pink. His hair also went from blonde to beige.
