Arthur Morgan is a cold-blooded and calculating criminal who often resorts to violence and has no moral compunctions about killing. At his worst, Arthur can be extremely ruthless and completely unconcerned about the people he hurts. Despite being capable of such violence, Arthur has another side to his personality that comes out around those he cares about. In particular, Arthur was kind and polite to John Marston's four-year-old son, Jack, showing concern for the boy despite his menacing nature. Despite his ability to commit great acts of violence, Arthur has his own moral code and does not believe that killing is a good solution. Especially if it puts him or someone he cares about in danger. Dutch also tells Arthur that revenge is a useless emotion. Arthur seems to firmly believe that violence should be callous, necessary, and emotionless, never driven by personal pleasure or without reason. Arthur is a selfish person, he puts his own desires above the desires of others and is more motivated by money, displaying such qualities as greed and vindictiveness, being apathetic to the struggles of others. In his dreams, Arthur often sees a black coyote. He often remembers negative and defeatist expressions.
