Strade is one of the main characters in Boyfriend to Death, alongside Sano Kojima and Lucien Rire. He makes an appearance in the webcomic This Is Not Romance as well as a cameo in the game The Price Of Flesh, both works of his creator, artist Gatobob.

Appearance

Strade has the appearance of an average middle-aged man, with dark skin and dark hair. In his artwork he has been shown as being chubby but with a great deal of strength. He has an unkempt appearance (seeing his fading beard and body hair) and on the left side of his jaw he has a scar and his height is shorter than that of an average man. His scent is described as "sweaty engine". On his triceps, specifically on his left arm, he has a black tattoo of two straight lines and the tip of what appears to be an arrow below. While in the BTD universe this has no meaning (or is not explained directly), in the Gatobob comic "This Is Not Romance" we are given the explanation that the tattoos that several characters have signify their rank in the army. Recently, Gatobob revealed a new design of Strade for the reboot of his route that will be seen in the new game You Kill Me Every Time. This time he is shown as someone much more robust, his skin tone is now darker but realistic, part of his hair is pushed back, his iconic green shirt (which is now a more vivid color) is now open and he has a dark grayish t-shirt underneath it, most likely being a tank top. Also, his yellowish cargo pants now have a much more beige color.

personality

From his first appearance, Strade is shown to us as a cheerful person but who keeps a dark side to him: he is a cold-blooded psychopath, getting overexcited with extreme violence and all kinds of gore or anything related to blood. One of his greatest fears is being immobile and/or restrained in some way or having something or someone prohibit his freedom, as well as not being able to speak. In the event that he were to meet someone who proved to be much stronger and was on the verge of death or defeating him, he would choose to accept his defeat, but with resentment. Strade is described as a freeloader who tends to prey on people who are smaller or who he considers weaker than him. Nervous and/or scared body language is something that often catches his attention, which is why if you choose the options that make you appear more timid at the bar, his heart mechanic will increase noticeably. The only type of people Strade avoids are those with a robust appearance, such as muscled people or people taller than him. To the surprise of many, Strade is not interested in hurting animals, for the same reason that he is not interested in hurting children or teenagers. He likes to observe complex reactions, which makes him more interested in adults, since they have more defense mechanisms, habits, deep-rooted fears, phobias, anger that attract him more to play with them.

history

Much about Strade is not revealed in-game, but rather through fandom Q&As to Gatobob on his old Tumblr account, GatoAnswers. Few things are known about his personal life, such as the fact that he is German-Canadian. It can be assumed that he has been doing this type of act for years by the way he acts and how calm and normal he tries to appear when attracting new victims. He has a large house, most likely being bought with the money he earned from his snuff streams, as it is unknown whether he has a side job. Prior to the events of the game, Strade meets Ren at The Braying Mule bar, where he also meets us throughout the game. While the exact number of Strade's victims is unknown, it is known that the torture devices he often uses mostly include construction tools, such as nail guns, drills, hammers, saws, screwdrivers, and more. Despite all of Strade's experience in kidnapping and his knowledge of sadism, one of his captives (MC) manages to break free from his bonds and hide a sharp weapon with which he stabs Strade in the neck when he approaches him. Strade manages to hold his neck to avoid bleeding out, but due to the rage that this causes him, he ends up gouging out the MC's right eye, which causes his death. On the verge of bleeding out completely and due to the commotion caused in the basement, Ren goes down and finds the scene of the dead MC and Strade on the floor, bleeding out. Although he asks for help, Ren does not react due to his nerves and remains static, without any movement. Because of this, Strade bleeds to death on the basement floor, confirming that the route where we die because Strade kills us this way is canon.

btd 2

In Boyfriend to Death 2: Fresh Blood, Ren reveals that he was the one who caused Strade's final death, opening his chest in two with his nails and ripping out his heart to eat it, most likely in a state of shock. His lifeless body can be found if, when left alone in the main room, you decide to go down the stairs, go to the basement, approach the freezer and open it, showing us that Strade's body is frozen and that Ren decided to preserve it immediately to avoid putrefaction or the need to bury it.

relations

Ren first meets Strade at the bar The Braying Mule. As far as we know, Strade planned to kidnap him and carried out his plan in an alleyway next to the bar. Nervous and scared, Ren lets his ears and tails show freely, which sparks the German's interest, eventually taking him home and keeping him more or less as an abused pet. Strade often tortures him, though Ren often sees him as a protector throughout both games (at times in the sequel). Strade controls Ren through manipulation and intimidation along with a remote-controlled shock collar.

relationships 2

healthy Kojima While the three main characters from the original game were never known to know each other, completing BTD:2 100% unlocks the extras, one of which is called "Scene: Rire and Sano", which features a provocative scene between the two characters. After something Rire says, Sano ends up mentioning Strade, saying that he's been worried about not being able to find him, and that Rire "will never be able to replace Strade" after a romantic interaction with the Demon King, suggesting that there was some sort of romantic interest or relationship between Strade and Sano. Please note that due to certain incidents, this interaction between Strade and Sano is no longer canon. As this matter has already been closed by both sides, fans are asked to respect the creators' decision and not harass them due to this decision. However, fans may still link these or other characters of the creators as headcanons, but they will not directly interact with this content.

curiosities

Strade is left-handed. He is one of two characters who have a special heart, the other character being Rire. Strade's special heart is a bleeding red heart upon reaching +100 love with the player. Strade owns large pottery kilns where he disposes of his victims. As he was bleeding out from the stab wound to his neck, Strade didn't think he was dying, he just thought he was passing out. Strade hates guns, as he thinks they are stupid and don't give him the thrill of doing damage with his own hands. Her favorite color is fire/neon green. In Boyfriend to Death 2: Fresh Blood, Ren reveals that Strade only had one pistol in his possession, the reason for which is unknown. Strade knows how to speak Plattdeutsch, also called "Low German", a dialect used in northern Germany. Her name is unknown, as "Strade" is more of a nickname similar to the unrecognized people, who are called in the US as "John/Jane Doe. Before he was a part of Boyfriend To Death, his first appearance was in the Gatobob comic This Is Not Romance, and he soon began prank-running offensive accounts and blogs and spending his free time mocking and making hurtful comments to people on the internet.
