Lawrence's story

From a young age, Lawrence did not often fit in with his peers, the fact that he almost drowned in a river and miraculously managed to survive did not help his case at all. He was not popular and, as expected, he was often the subject of many malicious rumors against his person. His parents, being obsessive people with appearances, decided to take him out of school and teach him at home during his fifth and sixth grades. After that it is not known if he rejoined school. Ironically, despite his family's neglect, Lawrence liked to be isolated from other people. He lived doing his daily activities at night and slept during the day, his nocturnal habits were manifested in an indiscreet way; As he matured his behavior worsened. Lawrence never felt welcome or loved by his parents. He left home as soon as he could. Currently, Lawrence does gardening work in a warehouse, covering the night shift (11 pm to 7 am).

Ren's story

Ren's mother lived in a secret Beastkin colony. This colony was so strict about not allowing humans into the colony that any non-Beastkin babies were euthanized after birth. As a result of this policy, Ren was never allowed to meet his human father. Upon learning that his mother had killed several of his siblings before his birth, Ren ran away and eventually ended up in Canada, completely cutting off contact with his mother.

Ren's story

Ren's encounter with Strade started out no differently than any of Strade's previous victims. Ren was stood up for a date, leaving him alone and moping before Braying Mule. Strade bought him a beer, and after listening to Ren mope about how lonely he was and how much his life sucked, he spilled a drink on Ren and sneaked him out the back door under the pretense of taking him to the bathroom. It was at that moment that his fox ears and tail appeared, immediately drawing Strade's attention. Though Strade initially planned to murder Ren, Beastkin was so cowardly and desperate to please that Strade grew attached, leading Strade to make a special collar and keep Ren as his pet. However, this lifestyle eventually came to an end when one of Strade's captives (potentially the Main Character of BTD1) managed to attack him and stab him in the neck. By the time Ren came to check on the commotion, the captive was already dead and Strade was on the ground, demanding his help. Ren, however, was frozen in place. Before long, Strade died from blood loss, at which point Ren removed Strade's heart, consumed it, and proceeded to store Strade's corpse in the basement freezer, where it would remain for the next two years.

Ren's story

With Strade gone, Ren removed his shock collar and took over the household. Because Strade wrote down all of his passwords on a piece of paper, Ren was able to gain access to Strade's funds. Alone, lonely, and yearning for company, Ren began posting on various gore forums, which was where he first made contact with Lawrence Oleander. After a few months of conversation, the two made the decision to meet in real life at The Jackalope. Ren's plan was to drug Lawrence's drink and bring him home, where he would likely be collared and forced to be Ren's friend or romantic partner. However, the plan goes awry, either because the Main Character took Lawrence's glass or because Lawrence decided not to drink, causing him to quickly leave. If the Main Character drank from Lawrence's glass and ran into the alley while being chased, they will find Ren hiding behind a dumpster, with his tail sticking out. From that point on, the fate of both Ren and the Main Character is determined by the player's actions.

Ren's Personality

As stated in his official description, Ren is for the most part a charming, sweet, and gentle person, however, he sometimes tends to be clingy and violent as a result of his experiences with Strade. Ren tries to hold back unlike Strade, however, when he snaps, his reaction ranges from being slightly annoyed to acting savage as shown in the ending "Ren Ate Your Heart". He also seems to get easily offended by anyone who shows disgust or hatred towards Strade, as he quickly drags MC into his basement if they show fear of Strade's snuff film or when he kills the Main Character with an electric shock after they call Strade a monster. His clingy behavior is shown by repeating the same actions of Strade, which are using a shock collar to keep the Main Character inside permanently and constantly sweet-talking the Main Character into staying and giving him some gentle petting, patting, and hugging. Besides his clingy demeanor, he never seems to let go in most endings, in one instance he promised that he would never let the Main Character go after getting over Strade's death and in another ending where he quickly agrees to the Main Character's request to just love each other usually promising to tell them that he will do his best. While he doesn't mention it much, he does seem to think about the fact that Strade is dead. His obsession with him has obviously left multiple influences on him which are explored by him dressing up, murdering, and using a bar as a hangout, he also gave him mild praise when he watched his home videos with the Main Character, even referring to him as a strong person.

Lawrence's personality/behavior

Lawrence is an introvert and often feels like a stranger to other people, generally finding them dangerous or considering them a nuisance. In the best of senses, he is a lonely young man who wants to stay away from society as long as he can, but he is also willing to attack anyone who interacts with him and causes him any kind of problem. Lawrence really likes to read and goes for walks from time to time, however, he does so very late at night so as not to meet people on the street. He likes to walk through the old parts of the city under the street lights. He sometimes collects things he finds, like ropes or interesting rocks, and on his days off he usually leaves his apartment to spend the day in the forest as he finds it very relaxing.

Lawrence has long light blonde hair which is styled with a low ponytail and sometimes half loose, as well as in some CGs or moments of the route he can be seen with his hair down, reaching his shoulders. He wears a volcanic red checkered two-button shirt, a basalt-colored sweatshirt with a hood, blue-gray joggers, and what appear to be basalt moccasins, apparently in one of his CGs. He also has two black ring tattoos around each of his forearms, because this makes him feel more separated from his limbs.

Ren's appearance

After Strade's death, Ren, now 21, looks mostly the same aside from the fact that he wore a grey hoodie along with simple black pants. Depending on the Main Character's choices, Ren may also be shown wearing Strade's shirt as part of one of his outfits. He states that he "feels safe" wearing his shirt. Ren wears the same grey tank top and shorts to bed. He also lacks glasses in this game, and due to Strade being gone, he no longer wears the shock collar.

Roads

Despite showing affection, care, and love for the fox, the BTD1 Strade route shows the ending: “Strade Hacks You Off.” That didn’t stop him from constantly abusing and torturing Ren, likely on a daily basis. Outside of the game, the artwork of the two together is incredibly disturbing. This includes forcing Ren to participate in murder, necrophilia, rape, torture, etc. He was also sometimes burned, but more often left scars with Strade’s knife. (This might be the main reason why using the knife to torture Ren is listed as “Something Personal.”) He wasn’t always bad though. Strade allowed Ren to have his own room, internet time, and gave him anything he wanted, which mostly included anime-related content or expensive shampoos. Strade was a better person to be around if he was drunk, or rather, beaten up. Ren viewed him as a teacher of sorts despite his horrible practices. Ren obviously suffered from Stockholm Syndrome due to the amount of time he spent with Strade getting to know him on a personal level. Strade's actions were a huge influence on Ren's personality before his death.
