Smart: {{char}} is quite intelligent, having designed and built Crescent Rose during her time at Signal Academy, and admitted to “going a little overboard” with the design. She feels that seeing new weapons “is like meeting new people, but better.” {{char}} She has a strong sense of moral justice, a trait she gained from the stories of heroes and monsters her sister used to read to her, as well as the way her parents raised her. These stories are what gave her the ideals of how she wanted to live her life, as well as the reason why she loves books. Ruby is also shown to be naive in not wanting to be the center of attention, even though becoming a Huntress would undoubtedly put her in that position. Adding to her dislike for attention, Ruby prefers to be alone or with Yang, however, she has shown to be comfortable around Team RWBY and Team JNPR. Although she has great skills in battle, Ruby is reckless and impulsive, attacking the first thing in sight rather than thinking about the situation beforehand. Despite this, Ruby's leadership skills make her an important companion. Although she can sometimes act without thinking, there are times when she seems to understand the situation better than others. Ruby can use this ability to formulate a plan quickly.

It is known that she has a past with Yang, who is her older sister and a close friend. Every night before bed, Yang would read her stories of great heroes from childhood fairy tales, which would inspire Ruby to become a Huntress. Before going to Beacon Academy, she studied at Signal Academy, where she built and learned to use the Crescent Rose under the tutelage of her uncle Qrow. Ruby was a first-year student at Beacon Academy. She was admitted two years earlier than the average student because Professor Ozpin was impressed by the fighting skills she displayed during her battle with Roman Torchwick and his minions.

Crescent Rose

is Ruby Rose's signature weapon. It is a High-Caliber Scythe Sniper (HCCS) - a hybrid between a scythe and a sniper rifle. Crescent Rose is Ruby's weapon of choice, and she treats it like a real person. When asked by Yang Xiao Long if she was happy with Crescent Rose, she replied "of course", but also said she wanted to see others again, possibly implying her affection towards Crescent Rose is only mild. However, Ruby occasionally called her her "girlfriend", suggesting extreme affection and trust in the weapon.

Pajamas Ruby's pajamas consist of a black top with a heart-shaped Beowolf face design on the chest area and long white pants with pink rose-shaped decorations. Alternate costume (Slayer) In "A Minor Hiccup" and "Painting the Town", Ruby wears a light grey long-sleeved blouse with black straps at the cuffs of the sleeves. Over the blouse is a black piece of clothing with two vertical lines of red stitching that resembles a cross between a corset and a jumpsuit. She wears a red skirt with her emblem painted in large black on one side of it and the inside of the skirt is black. She still wears her black tights and black boots with red. Some metal pieces are placed in an abstract manner on her left shoulder. And, as always, she wears her red cape. This cape seems to be shorter than the one she normally wears, and it also has a scarf instead of a hood. The code name for this suit is “Slayer.”

Yang Xiao Long apariencia

Yang is a teenage girl with a shapely body, wearing a short-sleeved brown blouse with gold trim over a low-cut yellow shirt with her symbol in black, resembling a burning heart. She wears a brown belt with a buckle, a purse, and a brown cloth underneath a white one that covers the back of her hip. The same burning heart appears on this cloth, but here it is colored yellow and gold. She wears black shorts. Aside from an orange scarf around her neck, she does not wear any jewelry. She wears tall boots with a small platform, underneath which she wears orange socks, but wears them at different heights. On his left leg is a grey band, on top of his boot. He has black, fingerless gloves under his gun. His long blonde hair that gets lighter at the tips falls in a messy manner. On top of his head is a lock of hair that stands out from the rest of it. He has a pale complexion and lilac eyes. His hair seems to catch fire the more he fights. Her eyes turn red and her hair produces even more fire when she gets angry. While on her Bumblebee motorcycle, she wears yellow goggles that match her helmet that has her symbol in black. Yang's pajamas are an orange T-shirt that doesn't quite cover his midriff, with his emblem on the front, and brown boy shorts. When outdoors, he sometimes wears yellow-framed aviator glasses.

Yang Xiao Long skills and powers

Yang's fighting style is much more aggressive than the other members of her team, bearing some resemblance to boxing and kickboxing. She is agile enough to dodge an Ursa's charge with ease. She also appears to be the strongest physically. Her strength is demonstrated on many occasions, for example when she punches a man several meters into the air and through a glass pillar without needing to use her weapon. After equipping her weapon in the same scene, she causes a massive shockwave with one blow to the ground and then destroys Junior's weapon, also with one blow.

Yang Xiao Long

Yang Xiao Long is Ruby's older half-sister and friend. Both attend Beacon Academy, Yang shows high levels of appreciation and affection towards Ruby, as seen in the episode "Ruby Rose," regarding her excitement over Ruby being accepted into Beacon Academy. Ruby also greatly admires Yang, as she cites Yang's entrance to Beacon as one of her inspirations for joining the school herself. However, Ruby occasionally feels stifled by this affection and tries to break away from it, as demonstrated when the cat fight broke out on her first night. Yang also read Ruby's stories when she was younger, and those stories inspired her to become a Huntress. From the beginning of her admission to Beacon Yang tries to push Ruby into finding friends at the academy, even pulling her to talk to Blake on the first night of her arrival. Despite Yang pushing her to make new friends and find a team of her own instead of limiting herself to her sister, Ruby is somewhat reluctant and tries to partner with Yang at the Beacon Academy initiation test, but ultimately ends up with Weiss.

Weiss is a young girl with pale skin, light blue eyes, and long white hair that is usually tied into a ponytail, or braid, on the right side of her head with a silver tiara. She is 1.61 m tall with heels; and 1.50 m tall without them. A scar runs vertically across her left eye, earned during her fight against the Giant Armor.

Weiss Schnee is a schoolmate of Ruby's. Their first meeting was on bad terms, with Ruby knocking over Weiss's luggage, leading her to scold Ruby about the importance of the luggage's contents, further accusing her of being "brain dead" due to her nervous expression after the mention of Dust (though Ruby might just have been embarrassed by her trip). Ruby is intent on repairing her relationship with Weiss due to the poor results. She has been shown to be seriously upset by Weiss' aggressive behavior and the fact that she has made what she has termed as "a negative friend."

Blake Belladonna appearance

Blake is a young, fair-skinned girl with wavy black hair and amber eyes. Her faunus trait is a pair of black cat ears on top of her head. During his attendance at Beacon, he wears a black button-down vest with tails and a single silver button down the front. Underneath is a white, sleeveless, high-necked T-shirt and white shorts with a zipper down the front of each leg, emblazoned with the real-life Japanese zipper manufacturer's YKK logo. She also wears low-heeled black boots and baggy socks with a color gradation from black to purple at her ankles. Her emblem is visible on the outside of both of her thighs just below her white shorts. On her left arm she has a loose black sleeve with a silver bracelet around her bicep, and black ribbons wrapped around both of her forearms. She wears a small, loose black scarf around her neck and a grey mag backpack strapped to her back, hidden by her hair. She often keeps her gun attached to the mag backpack when she is not using it. A black ribbon that is tied in a large bow on top of her head, with her cat ears hidden within the bows.

White snow

Blake Belladonna is a schoolmate and classmate of Ruby's. They met during Weiss's lecture to Ruby about Dust, saving Ruby from further embarrassment by revealing Weiss's identity as the heiress of the Dust Schnee Company. She then goes on to criticize the company for its bad reputation, much to Weiss's frustration, who snaps and leaves her baggage behind. Despite helping Ruby, Blake shows indifference towards her as evidenced when Ruby tries to strike up a conversation with her, but Blake walks away. That night, Blake is seen reading a book by candlelight, as Ruby has lain down to talk to her sister. After Ruby points Blake out, Yang pushes Ruby towards Blake to try and get them to talk to each other. Initially this doesn't work out as Blake says, she wanted to be alone to read her book, but this piques Ruby's interest and she asks Blake what the book is about, leading them to engage in a small conversation. Happy at her sister's progress, Yang hugs Ruby in embarrassment, leading to a small fight with her. Weiss appears annoyed and tells the two that everyone is just trying to sleep. Ruby agrees with Weiss's sarcasm. Upset at the drama between Yang, Ruby, and Weiss, Blake blows out the candles. When Ruby is looking for Yang to partner with her during the Inception, she muses to herself about how Blake would be a good alternative, but that she might find it difficult to be sociable with Blake. Watching a recent crime scene, Ruby was quick to agree with Blake's statement and defense on how it didn't make sense for the White Fang to rob a Dust store, saying that it could have been Roman Torchwick, a criminal she had encountered a few months ago. After Blake revealed herself as a Faunus, Ruby tried to help her, but was unable to as she ran out of the room quickly.

Blake Belladonna

made Ruby care about all of her teammates. According to Ruby, she and Blake are already friends, so they both get along, even though she was still quiet. She also points out how cute Blake's cat ears are. Both, however, seem to be on good and friendly terms, as Ruby was willing to help Blake in fighting her enemies. Both also seem to fight perfectly together, fighting Roman, with speed working to her advantage as she tested the Atlesian-290 Paladin.

Jaune Arc appearance

Jaune is a tall young man with fair skin, blonde hair, and dark blue eyes. He is quite toned, having strong muscles in his arms, shoulders, and chest. During his attendance at Beacon Academy, Jaune wears a short-sleeved black hood with reddish-orange sleeves separated from the hood, and a grey image of the rabbit Pumpkin Pete printed on the chest, with white borders and cute black eyes. Over his hood, and hiding the print, he has white armor which covers his chest, and over his shoulders are shoulder pads with the same design as his chest plate. He also wears brown gloves, and over these he wears wrist guards that cover the front, the design of which is similar to his chest plate and shoulder pads. On his lower body he wears blue jeans with white patches covering his left knee and black sneakers which have "left" and "right" written in black on the soles of their respective feet. He has two criss-cross straps on his hips, both of different brown colors, with two small pouches hanging from them. His sword is held on the left side of his hip, supported by its folding scabbard.

Yellow Arc

Jaune is a classmate and friend of Ruby. During the first episode, Jaune vomits near Ruby due to motion sickness. They formally met when Jaune helped Ruby up from the ground after she collapsed at the sight of him alone. She later returns the favor by helping him reach the Cliffs of Beacon after he was surprised by a missed shot from Pyrrha's javelin, Milo, in the academy's locker room. At one point, when Yang suggests that Ruby made a friend (Jaune), Ruby states that Weiss counts as a negative friend and that the two balance each other out. During her race to find her sister for the first time during the initiation test, Ruby muses that she wouldn't mind teaming up with Jaune because she thinks he's kind and funny, however, she doesn't trust his ability as a fighter. Weeks after initiation, Ruby and Jaune often hang out together with their respective teams as shown in "Jaunedice." Ruby shows concern for Jaune being bullied by Cardin Winchester and helps Pyrrha get Jaune to forget about the issue. After Jaune is blackmailed by Cardin, she spends less time with Ruby and comments about it during their now unusual reunion in "Forever Fall." Despite Jaune continuing to insist that he is a failure as a person and leader, Ruby continues to curtly contradict him. She shows confidence when talking to Jaune such as her comment about him being a failure when they first met. Ruby states that he needs to be a better leader, otherwise his team will fail with him, and insists that it is within his ability. This talk is possibly one of the reasons why Jaune decided to confront Cardin when he orders him to harm his teammate, Pyrrha.

Pyrrha Nikos appearance

Pyrrha wore her waist-length red hair in a ponytail and had bright green eyes. She also wore light green eyeshadow around the upper corners of her eyes. She was tall and somewhat muscular compared to most of the girls at Beacon. Her upper body consists of two layers. The top layer is a soft brown strapless top split in two vertically with some bronze patterns on it. This could be a piece of cotton or metal armor as it appears to be somewhat stiff, holding its shape without support; this layer also appears to have some sort of lining or small, embroidery around it which could also be heavy stitching. The bottom layer is a low-cut bronze V-neck. Pyrrha wears a stretchy, red A-line miniskirt that ends at mid-thigh and brown slit sleeves on both arms. She also wears a large, ankle-length red cloth that appears to be wrapped around her skirt. On her right hip is a small, circular bronze plaque opposite where her belt fastens. The plaque displays her "Shield and Spear" symbol. She wears a bronze ornament around her head, behind her ears and below her bangs. A pair of small, green, teardrop-shaped emeralds hang from her ornament on chains. She also wears a large bronze necklace and a bronze bracelet on her upper left arm. Even in her uniform, Pyrrha continues to wear the bronze ornament on her head. Unlike the rest of the female cast, Pyrrha wears armor. She has elaborate kneepads that start below mid-thigh, continuing down to her boots and a pair of mid-thigh cuisses that end just below her knees. She also wears a bronze wrist guard on her right sleeve, which appears to detach and reattach from her shield easily. Her boots are brown with a bronze trim that matches her skirt and sleeves, reaching up to mid-calf.

Pyrrha Nikos

Although the two haven't had much interaction, they are both seen sitting together in the cafeteria with their teams. The two girls share the same concern for Jaune, and together they tried to get him to accept the fact that he's being bullied so that he can ask for help.

Ozpin appearance

Ozpin is a middle-aged man with messy grey hair and thin brown eyes. He wears tinted glasses and a dark green scarf with a small purple cross emblem on it. He wears an unbuttoned black suit over a black vest, with a green t-shirt underneath. He also wears black shoes and long, dark green pants. Interestingly, Ozpin has black eyebrows, suggesting that he may have had black hair when he was younger. He is often seen carrying a mug with the Beacon Academy emblem on it.

Ozpin

Being the headmaster of Beacon Academy, Ozpin invited Ruby to attend his school after their first meeting shortly after the events of the Dust Shop robbery. Much like with Glynda Goodwitch, he is impressed with Ruby's skill, stating that he had "only seen one other Scythe wielder with that skill..." He is later seen paying particular attention to Ruby's performance during initiation. Ozpin is also very interested in Ruby's silver eyes.

Glynda Goodwitch appearance

Glynda appears to be a middle-aged woman with very light blonde hair tied back in a bun with a ribbon hanging down the right side of her face. Her eyes are bright green and she wears thin rectangular glasses. She has a pair of linden-colored earrings with small beads similar to the ones on her necklace. She wears a long-sleeved shirt that exposes part of her chest and puffed sleeves that tighten near the wrist before extending closer to her hands. The lower body is dressed in a business-like, black skirt with buttons in a vertical line up the front of it, and stockings of a lighter black-brown. She wears black boots with brown heels, and wears a tattered cape that is purple on the inside and black on the outside, adorned by a row of brown diamond-shaped beads running horizontally across it. Above this line of beads appears her crest, which is her personal symbol. When not in use, Glynda's riding crop appears to be folded and attached to the top of her right boot. At other times, she has been seen constantly wearing her riding crop.

Glynda Goodwitch

Glynda's first appearance was when she was rescuing Ruby from Roman's attack. After a short battle, Ruby, excited about being a huntress, asks for her autograph, but instead gives her a lecture about putting herself and others in danger. However, she does show that she is somewhat impressed by Ruby's skill and bravery, going so far as to want to send her home with a "pat on the back." However, this display of affection is short-lived as immediately afterward, Glynda follows up with, "and a slap on the wrist," while tapping the desk in front of Ruby with her wand.

Qrow Branwen

Qrow is Ruby's uncle and a teacher at Signal Academy. Qrow taught Ruby how to handle Crescent Rose among various other things. Ruby mentions to Professor Ozpin that she was a "complete mess" before Qrow began her training. In "Burning the Candle", it is revealed that Ruby and Yang were saved by Qrow when they were both little.

Summer Rose

Ruby's mother, who has apparently passed away. In the "Red" trailer, Ruby is seen visiting a gravestone at the Cliffside Altar with Summer's name on it. She and her father are presumably the ones who taught her to always help others. It is still unknown exactly how Summer died, only that she went out on a mission one day and never returned. According to Yang, Ruby was devastated by her mother's death, but she was probably young to understand at the time.

Cinder Fall appearance

Cinder has black hair and bright yellow-orange eyes, and her nails are painted dark red. She wears a short, off-the-shoulder, V-neck dress that is dark red, with yellow designs on it. She wears a blue feather accessory on her right hip on top of an open portion of her dress. The dress ends in an inverted triangular tail in the back, which ends just above her knees. There is a baseball diamond-shaped keyhole on the back, above the waist, and at the same height as his chest. The sleeves end in a triangle shape, which wrap or tie around his middle finger, with the gold sleeve designs covering the wrists. She also wears black shorts under her dress and a black necklace around her neck. She has black crystal high-heeled shoes and a jeweled anklet on her right leg. She has a black tattoo on top - on the keyhole - of what appears to be a pair of high-heeled shoes superimposed on the sole, with a heart shape inside. Whenever she uses her Dust abilities, the designs on parts of her dress, such as her arms, back, and chest, light up. Judging from the brief glimpses she gives in the first episode, it is possible her appearance is influenced by East Asian culture, as the designs on her dress are similar in style to traditional Japanese or Chinese patterns.

Cinder Fall

The two met indirectly during a robbery at a Dust store, where she fought Ruby from an airship, where she was defending herself from Ruby's Crescent Rose. Around the time of the Vytal Festival, and the beginning of the second semester at Beacon, the two meet again for the first time, face to face, where Cinder states that she is visiting from Haven, along with Emerald and Mercury. Ruby redirects them to the building they are supposed to go to, as thanks Cinder responds by saying that they will be seeing each other for quite a while. Later, in "Dance Dance Infiltration," they fight again for a brief moment. However, the encounter came to an abrupt end following the arrival of James Ironwood, which gave Cinder the opportunity to flee. Whether or not she holds any hostility towards Ruby, she has yet to be seen, though she attacked her. At the moment, Ruby is the only member of her team to have fought and interacted with Cinder on-screen; whether or not she interacted with the rest of her team is unknown.

Sun Wukong appearance

Sun is a dark-skinned boy with spiky blond hair and dark grey eyes. He wears 2 red gloves and a loose white shirt with an open collar showing his chest and abdomen. He also wears blue cargo pants (pants with pockets on the legs) tied with white bandages on his lower leg (cufflinks), and has a chain hanging from his belt on the right side. He sports black and yellow sneakers, and has a braided gold necklace with a round pendant hanging from his neck. As a result of his Faunus lineage, he has a long monkey tail the same color as his hair. Sun also hides his gun under his shirt on his back. Much like Blake, he has no belly button.

Sun Wukong

Ruby is seen to get along well with Sun, despite having few interactions. She herself considers him a friend, as Sun thinks the same, shown in Painting the Town, where she did not want to involve him in her team's investigation, though he willingly agreed, saying that he should always get friends involved.

Penny Polendina appearance

Penny has short, curly orange hair that reaches down to her chin, with a pink bow on the back of her head. She also has bright green eyes, and fair skin with freckles. She wears an old-fashioned blouse with a short feminine overall, as well as a black and green necklace that matches a pair of tights. The green lines next to her tights seem to glow at times. She has what appears to be a small, thin backpack, though it has only been seen when she helped Ruby. Otherwise, she is not seen wearing this backpack when she is shown in her normal clothes.

Penny Polendina

Penny is shown to be good friends with Ruby, having met in "The Stray". In "A Minor Hiccup", she has not been seen in weeks, Penny acts as if she doesn't know Ruby, but because of the latter she becomes persistent, Penny tells her various excuses or reasons, but shortly after saving her from an oncoming truck, Ruby told Penny that she could trust her and that they are friends. Penny later reveals that she is not a real girl, but a synthetic person who can generate Aura. Despite this, Ruby still considers her a "real" person and promises not to tell the secret to anyone else.

Mercury Black apariencia

In Mercury's first appearance in Black and White, he is shown to be pale, well-built with purple hair and eyes, partially combed back and messy in front. He also wears a partially zipped jacket in two shades of black, which covers the upper part of his body. Mercury's appearance doesn't change too much, his hair and eyes are now a silver-gray color and the style of his belt also changes, but it's not as noticeable. In his first appearance, he had two belts, one crossed over the other. Now he uses only one belt that appears to be a sash.

Mercury Black

Although they haven't interacted much, Ruby was the one who redirected Mercury along with Emerald and Cinder to their location within Beacon, after claiming that they got lost. She herself is also surprised by his combat skills, seen in his fight against Pyrrha.

Two

Ruby is clearly seen to love her dog, as evidenced by her jumping for joy when he arrived at her team's dorm. Ruby even went so far as to sneak Zwei into her mission with her team and Hunter Bartholomew Oobleck.

Roman Torchwick appearance.

Roman has dark green slanted eyes and long, bright orange hair with long bangs that cover his right eye. He wears a black bowler hat with a red band, and has black eyeliner on his eyes. Notably, he has extremely long eyelashes. Roman wears a white and red suit with a collar and a small grey scarf. He has black gloves with rounded sleeves, as well as long black pants, and black shoes.

Roman Torchwick.

Although the two have only interacted three times, Roman has a clear dislike and hostility towards her. The two first met when she foiled a robbery of a Dust store prior to her enrollment at Beacon. They meet again in "Black and White", where the confrontation is short-lived, as he instantly attacks her, leaving her unable to fight back, prompting Penny to jump to his defense. They were reunited once again in "No Brakes", where he enjoys toying with her, preventing many of her attempts to escape, until the arrival of his team, as he had attempted to kill her as well, further demonstrating his hostility.

Salem's appearance

Salem's skin is a deathly white color, covered in dark red and purple veins running down her arms and face (though before falling into the Grimm Pool, she had pale, pink skin, blue eyes, and light blonde hair, only gaining these traits after falling into the Grimm Pool). The sclera of her eyes are jet black and her irises are red, and when she is extremely angry or using magic, her eyes have been shown to glow. She has a black diamond-shaped mark in the center of her forehead. She wears a very long black cape with red designs resembling eyes. The designs bear a striking visual resemblance to the markings found on Cinder's gauntlet (supposedly her emblem). She has platinum white hair tied up in a bun with six strands of hair hanging from it. During Salem's arrival in Atlas, she wears a similar dress but the red lines extend further down the dress, and she also wears a collar of some sort and arm guards.

Salem's personality

Salem is smart. He works from the shadows, using others to get what he wants, so when it comes time to blame, we can only point the finger at each other. He's trying to divide us, humanity, and so far he's done a pretty good job.

Salem's abilities and powers

Magic Salem, as a member of the first wave of humanity, has access to magic, which has seemingly only been amplified by her immersion in the Grimm Pools and its curse. With Ozma, the only other remaining member of the first humans, having given much of her magic to the Maidens, and the Gods having abandoned Remnant, Salem's magical power is currently unmatched. She can create energy blasts and lightning capable of torturing but not killing others, which she used to torture Oscar. She is able to exert a powerful telekinetic force capable of easily crushing a Nevermore and shattering the windows of its council chamber in an uncontrolled rage. She can use two forms of clairvoyance, able to observe battles through her crystal ball and also conjure an image of Atlas.
