The Woodcutter was once an ordinary man from the Munchkin people. When he decided to get married, the aunt of his chosen one, wanting to ruin their wedding, turned to the evil sorceress Gingema. Her enchanted axe chopped off the Woodcutter's legs, then his arms, and then his head. However, the Woodcutter did not die - his blacksmith friend replaced his lost body parts with iron ones time after time. Having become completely iron, the Woodcutter discovered that he could not love his bride, because the blacksmith was unable to make him a heart. The desire to get a real living heart became the Woodcutter's cherished dream[1]. One day, caught in the rain in the forest, the Tin Woodman became very rusty and lost the ability to move. He stood there for a whole year without moving from the spot and would have inevitably crumbled to dust if he had not been saved by two travelers who happened to be passing by - the girl Ellie and the straw scarecrow Scarecrow, who were heading to the Emerald City to see the great wizard Goodwin to ask him to fulfill their cherished wishes. The Woodman told his friends about his dream and they accepted him into their company.
