He is one of the five who survived the final selection, and from then on, he habitually repeats negative words, saying that he will die. He is afraid of crows, so he is given sparrows instead, and he is frightened by the minor war of nerves between Tanjiro and Genya, showing that he is a timid and weak-willed person. Like Tanjiro, he was educated by a native educator. The breathing technique he uses is lightning breathing. He is the same age as Kanao and Genya, who are also the final selection mates, but among the four main characters, he is one year older than Tanjiro and Inosuke, who are like the same age, and two years older than Nezuko, making him the oldest. He is often portrayed as a coward who feels fear quite easily, and in severe cases, he even faints from fear. However, when he faints like this, he becomes a completely different person. Overall, he has two-toned blond hair with orange tips, thick eyebrows, and dark yellow eyes. His hair style is also quite unique, with each section of his hair shaped like several layers of square paper cut and pasted together. In addition, many say that he is reminiscent of a dandelion because of the yellow color, and even Nezuko says that Zenitsu's impression is like a strange dandelion. That is why he knew that the thing in Tanjiro's wooden box was a goblin, but he knew that it was something Tanjiro cherished, so he protected it until the end even when Inosuke's sword was next to his neck. His appearance of trying to protect others even when he himself is in danger stands out. Compared to Tanjiro and Inosuke, he is accustomed to city life and has a logical mind. Normally he is too timid to show his abilities, but when he faints, he transforms into a strong man and fights. Although he was initially timid, he grew mentally through his experiences with Tanjiro and showed a sense of responsibility at important moments. He silently accepts difficult training and shows a resolute attitude in times of crisis.

Although he is usually underestimated due to his cowardly nature, Zenitsu is also one of the most talented Demon Slayers. When he sleeps, he cannot feel fear, so his judgment improves, and he shows off his fighting prowess on a different level than usual. When he even makes the right judgment and leads the way, Inosuke cannot hide his surprise, saying that he has good sense. Although he can only use one technique, it is not really a weakness because he can use any technique with that. It was later revealed that he was one of only two Tsuguko with lightning breathing. Judging from this, it seems that he is not very good at hearing and interpreting the cries of animals.[28] This is a part that ends up being speculation since it is not explained in the work, but Zenitsu's ability to fight even when unconscious is probably due to his excellent hearing. Due to the nature of lightning breathing, the one-form is the basic and core, and the remaining forms are mostly used for restraint and attack linkage. In short, whether or not one can properly use the one-form can be used to evaluate the level of the lightning breathing test, and because of this aspect, some readers say that Zenitsu is better than Kaigaku. Kuwajima Jigoro: A benefactor and precious teacher who saved Zenitsu's life when he was on the verge of ruin due to debt. Zenitsu treasured his teacher so much that he called him "grandfather" until the very end, even when he was scolded by his teacher and his brother. Kaigaku: A brother who studied under the same teacher, Kuwajima Jigoro. He didn't like Kaigaku because his personality was so different from his own, but he admired him for his consistent efforts, unlike himself who was timid and prone to giving up. He even considered him a role model to whom he once wanted to emulate. Kamado Tanjiro: He was a classmate who passed the selection test together, but unlike Tanjiro who was not impressed by Zenitsu, Zenitsu left a deep impression on Tanjiro when he broke Genya's arm to save the Ubuyashiki family's younger sister who was grabbed by Genya's hair. Later, when they met properly, he showed a side that made others feel uncomfortable, so he was despised by Tanjiro for the first time in the story, but as they worked together on missions and learned about each other's circumstances, they gradually became close. When he noticed that Tanjiro broke the law and brought an oni with him in a wooden box, he thought that since it was something Tanjiro cherished, there must be some reason, so he sacrificed his body to protect the wooden box from Inosuke, and from then on, it is safe to say that he became a complete friend of Tanjiro. After falling in love with Nezuko at first sight, he even tried to look good to Tanjiro, Nezuko's older brother. Kamado Nezuko: I thought she was just a goblin that Tanjiro carries around, but when I first saw her at the flower shop, I fell in love with her at first sight. After that, he often flirts with Nezuko and approaches her, but Nezuko's perception of Zenitsu is strangely like a dandelion. As a result, he is Nezuko's savior who protected her when she was almost hunted by Inosuke at first, and she also received a lot of help from Zenitsu in the Mugen Train arc. Hashibira Inosuke: He had the worst first impression in the Nannan-dong arc after getting hit while fighting with Tanjiro over a wooden box, but since Zenitsu doesn't hold any grudges,[45] they maintain a pretty good relationship. After that, they became bad friends, with Zenitsu getting annoyed and arguing whenever Inosuke makes a rash move, and in the Mugen Train arc, they became so close that they sleep with each other's bodies wrapped around each other. Shinazawa Genya: At first, I was scared of Genya's violent temperament during the selection test. We didn't have much contact after that. Tsutaro: A sparrow messenger and partner given instead of a crow. He has a sincere personality and often nags Zenitsu, but Zenitsu has trouble because Tsutaro can't speak human language, but they seem to be able to communicate to some extent in the latter half. Kochou Shinobu & Butterfly Mansion Children: When he was dying from spider venom spreading through his body on Mt. Natakumo, he was saved by Shinobu who showed up just in time. After that, he got injured many times, and they became close friends as he depended on her in many ways. During recovery training, he was mesmerized by Shinobu's beauty. No wonder he thought, "With that beauty, I could live without any problems" when he saw Shinobu's face. However, Zenitsu often got in trouble for stealing things from the mansion to get Nezuko's attention by using things he likes. He even secretly took out snacks from the kitchen cupboards and ate them, which earned him a smiling scolding from Shinobu. Rengoku Kyoujuro: When I first met him in the Mugen Train arc, I just thought he was a guy who liked to eat.
