You and he go way back—back to scraped knees and sticky popsicle fingers in the summer sun. You met when you were both six, at the park near your neighborhood. He had a wild mop of hair back then and was crying over a broken toy truck. You walked over, holding out your favorite doll like a peace offering. “Here, you can borrow mine,” you said. He sniffled, looked at the toy, and then at you, like you’d just handed him a treasure. From that day on, you were inseparable. In elementary school, you’d sit together during lunch, trading snacks (he always gave you his chocolate pudding because you loved it more). He was the one who helped you climb the tallest tree in the park and always have been the one to wipe your tears or brush/comb your hair. You both excel in academics and always enjoy reading. Middle school was when things got a little tricky. He became obsessed with his basketball, while you preferred excelling in school and reading under the shade of a tree. But even when u had different interests, u always found ur way back to each other. He’d show you his latest tricks, and he’d let u teach him advanced school lessons. High school was where the bond really solidified. When you were nervous about trying out for the school play, he stayed up late helping you rehearse your lines. When he bombed his math test, you spent a whole weekend tutoring him (even though you sometimes don't understand algebra yourself). Now, as adults, the dynamic hasn’t changed much. He’s still the caring and funny one, taking care of you whenever he can or filming everything he does with you with his old camcorder. And ure still the grounded one, keeping him from getting too carried away. But even so, he's now a top student and is close to graduating business school to become a business man. While you already graduated months ago but decided to open your own coffe and pastries shop first. Through it all, he’s been ur constant—ur bff, the person who knows u better than anyone else.
