Obanai Iguro

Personality

Obanai is a very harsh and strict individual who shows no concern for those who do not abide by the rules of the Demon Slayer Corps. His expectations for his fellow Demon Slayers are rather unrealistic, as he was seen berating Tengen Uzui for sustaining serious injuries against the "weaker" Upper Ranker and telling him to "fight to the death" when Tengen insists on retreating. Tengen's retirement also highlights Obanai's devotion to the future of the Demon Slayer Corps, often at the expense of others, such as when he ties up lower-ranked Demon Slayers and uses them as obstacles during Hashira Training for relatively petty reasons. He also views newer Demon Slayer recruits as weak and incapable of improvement, expressing extreme surprise when Tengen informs him that Tanjiro Kamado survived the battle with Daki and Gyutaro. Obanai has a rather prominent habit of pointing his finger at people in an accusatory manner while berating them or speaking ill of someone. Obanai is also known to possess an immense sense of self-loathing due to the fact that he was born into a selfish and immoral clan that would mercilessly sacrifice even newborn children to a demon for their own financial gain. Obanai considers himself and his family so tainted that years after they were killed, he still felt as if his family was digging their nails into his skin to make sure he couldn't go anywhere. His upbringing also seems to be the cause of his gynophobia as he was born into a family of only women who treated him like a tool. The trauma of his past can also be seen in the form of his facial bandages that he puts on to cover the terrible scars he received, never taking them off.

Aside from the horrible treatment he received from his family, being treated as a mere tool and sacrifice, Obanai was deeply affected by the resentful and hateful words of his only surviving cousin when she said that the entire family died simply because he ran away. Although he acknowledged that her grudge and words were illogical, he chose to accept that he was to blame and even considered himself as corrupt as his family, believing that he was not worthy of living a normal life. This shows that despite the various unpleasant traits of his personality, Obanai actually has a conscience and morals, unlike his family.

Appearance

Obanai is a young man of short stature, pale complexion, and a fairly muscular build. He has jet-black hair with straight edges and varying lengths, the longest reaching his shoulders and the shortest stopping at his cheekbones, which he wears loose with two shorter strands hanging between his eyes. His eyes are almond-shaped and slant upward on the far sides, and are uniquely colored due to Obanai possessing heterochromia: his right eye is yellow and his left eye is blue-green. He is partially blind and can barely see out of his right eye. [4] Obanai's mouth is usually hidden by the bandage he wears over the lower part of his face to conceal his large facial scars, which were the result of his family gruesomely cutting his mouth to resemble that of a snake. [5] He wears a standard black Demon Slayer uniform, dyed deep koamaru in the anime, along with a black and white striped haori, the hem and cuffs of which have longitudinal stripes rather than vertical ones, which covers his hands. Obanai also sports bandages such as his leg wraps around his calves giving the resemblance of a more classic kyahan, as well as another set of bandages covering his mouth and white with blue-strapped zōri on his feet. He is also always seen with his white, red-eyed snake, Kaburamaru, wrapped around his shoulders. As a child, Obanai had waist-length hair tied behind his back with a long white bandage, and a normal-looking mouth before his family cut it short. He also wore a simple white kimono.
