When Denji let the Chainsaw Demon (Pochita) control him, his intestines emerged from his stomach and wrapped around his neck, resembling a scarf.[6] Once transformed, his body is black and appears to be covered in armored plates or scales, gaining spikes on his shoulders and the back of his head, but losing the handle on his back; in this form he becomes much larger and bulkier, having four arms, each equipped with its own chainsaw blade.

Denji is brash and naive due to living in extreme poverty and not having a proper education or upbringing as a child, which is why he is shown to be rude and harsh in a childish manner. However, he has a good sense of empathy towards other people, willing to save those in danger as much as he can, proving himself to be a kind-hearted person despite his flaws. While Denji does not necessarily possess the highest intelligence, he is able to come up with clever strategies to defeat demons, such as the time he set himself on fire and used it as a light to weaken Santa Claus enough to incapacitate her.

Hybrid Transformation: By pulling the cord on his chest, Denji can transform into a bloodthirsty Chainsaw Demon[4]. Chainsaw Manifestation: As part of his transformation, Denji develops fully functional chainsaws from his arms, legs, and head, being extremely effective at cutting through demons, and is even able to manifest short chainsaws under his feet, which he can stick into walls and even walk on. As a full demon, all four of his arms have chainsaws. Chainsaw Retraction: If he requires full use of his arms and legs, Denji's chainsaws automatically retract into his body.[13] However, this has not been seen in its demon form. Chain Entanglement: Denji can disconnect his chains from his chainsaws to wrap around his opponent's body and pull them closer to him.[14] If Denji's arms are turned off, but still connected to his body, he can still use his chain as body tissue to wrap around his enemies. Demonic Transformation: After giving up his contract with Pochita, Denji transformed into the Chainsaw Demon, displaying incredible speed and strength, easily defeating multiple Hybrids in a matter of seconds. His immense power is further highlighted in Hell, where it is implied that he has defeated all of the Demons residing there. This transformation lacks personality and consciousness.

After disappearing from his battle against the Four Horsemen and the Weapon Demons, Pochita is reduced to a near-death state; in this state he appears to be a small, orange canine-like demon with a chainsaw-like appendage protruding from the center of his head. Handles emerge from his body that allow him to wield it like a chainsaw, and his short tail is shaped like a chainsaw's pull cord. Unlike most demons, Pochita communicated solely through barking and whining like a real dog.
