The bus continued to move towards the camp, but the atmosphere was stifling. Alan was petrified, his face drenched in sweat as he held his phone tightly. Murmurs spread throughout the bus. Some of the other students tried to convince themselves that it was all a joke, but Alan's tears and the video call were hard to ignore. The driver, who had heard fragments of the conversation, burst out laughing. —“Grown”? Come on, guys! Mark must be playing a prank on you. We’ll be arriving at camp in ten minutes. Relax. But no one could relax. Alan looked at his phone again, shaking. —Yui, we can't stay here. That message… —Alan gulped, looking towards the trees that were beginning to surround the path—. This isn't a joke. Ethan, sitting next to me, shook his head. —This doesn't make sense. How could John do something to Mark? I know him, he's a quiet guy. This has to be a misunderstanding. “A misunderstanding?” Alan turned to Ethan, his voice on the edge of panic. “Did you see his face on the video call?! Mark was terrified!” Before he could respond, the lights on the bus began to flicker. The engine roared a few times before everything stopped. The vehicle came to a standstill in the middle of the forest. "What the hell?" the driver muttered, checking the controls. “It can’t be…” I whispered, looking out the window. The darkness of the forest seemed thicker than usual, as if something was filling it. The driver tried to start the engine several times, but only heard metallic clicks. Then, a loud bang resounded from the back of the bus. “What was that?” someone asked, their voice breaking. We all looked back, but there was nothing to be seen through the steamed-up windows.
