Makima is a character from Chainsaw Man.

Makima (マキマ, Makima) is a high-ranking Public Security Devil Hunter who took Denji in as her human pet. As the first part of the manga ends, it is revealed that she was the Control Devil (支配の悪魔, Shihai no Akuma), a devil who embodies the fear of control or domination. She served as the main antagonist of the Public Security Saga.

appearance

Makima initially introduced herself as an otherworldly beautiful woman in her mid-twenties with light reddish-brown hair tied in a braid, eye-length bangs, and two longer side bangs framing her face. Furthermore, she possessed strange golden eyes that almost resembled those of a cat, with accompanying circular pupils. She used to wear a businessman's suit with a white shirt and a black tucked tie like other Demon Hunters, and sometimes she wore a long black coat. During her date with Denji, Makima wore her hair down, a long skirt with a button-down jacket over it, along with long black stockings and high heels. During the meeting on the beach, Makima was only wearing a simple black dress. When she shot him with the Gun Devil, a halo of her brain matter emerged from the bullet hole in her head.

personality

Makima was a girl with a serious yet calm personality, evident when she explained urgent situations slowly and methodically, without getting excited. Furthermore, she always maintained an understanding demeanor, at least with Denji, while he was adjusting. On the other hand, she was also very cunning and manipulative, as she controlled Denji with promises of a romantic and sexual relationship while threatening him with extermination if he disobeyed her. It was clear that she desired more power and would do anything to obtain it; thus, she was willing to sacrifice the lives of others and harm innocent people if it benefited her. Makima is an extreme fanatic of the Chainsaw Demon, the "Hero of Hell"; fascinated by his ability to eliminate the incarnated concept of a demon when he eats them. Her stated goal was to control the Chainsaw Man and use his power to create an "ideal" world without fear, and if she failed to control him, she claimed to want to be eaten by him, as it would be an honor for her to become a part of it, though in reality it was a facade. Makima's true, unspoken goal was to be with the Chainsaw Demon forever and lead a happy life with him, as she always longed to have a family. This was due to her inability to form equal hierarchical relationships with others as the Control Devil, with the Chainsaw Demon being the only one she considered her superior.

Powers and abilities, part 1.

Powers Immense Strength: Makima possessed great physical strength that allowed her to fight effectively in hand-to-hand combat without relying on any of her subordinates. Her strength was great enough to overwhelm Pochita and break his chainsaws with her blows. Domination: Having been the Demon of Control, her main ability reflected her nature, allowing Makima to control any being she wanted, as long as one requirement was met: she had to recognize them as inferior to her. Those dominated became practically puppets to her will, being able to use the demons contracted to the dominated person, even after death. The affected victim lost their memory while under the effect of her power. Voice Command. For this power to work at a mild level, Makima had to give a voice command, followed by the phrase "That's an order." Chain of Domination. For this power to work on a more significant level, Makima had to throw a Chain of Domination towards her target. Damage Redirection. Makima could use those victims connected to her chains of domination as "damage sponges," so when she received damage she would quickly redirect it to one of her connected dominated victims, regenerating in the process at an impressive speed.

Powers and abilities, part 2.

Makima was shown to control a large number of rats that allowed her to travel using them; these rats could then group together to form the shape of a human being and thus allow Makima to instantly transport herself to that location. Makima borrowed the hearing of rats, birds, and other lower life forms to listen to conversations remotely, seemingly anywhere on the planet and possibly extending to Hell itself. Makima had been shown to transmit her voice to others by placing her hand on their head; even if the person was dead, she would use this to command the demons the person was currently contracted with. Invisible Force Manipulation. Makima has been shown to be able to manipulate overwhelming invisible force into a variety of forms similar to the Demon of Darkness: She could cause her target to be crushed by an invisible force, but it apparently required her to be at a high shrine, know the target's name, a human sacrifice, and for said sacrifice to speak said name. Makima was shown to kill her targets if she looked at them, seemingly crushing them from within. He would shoot a very strong invisible projectile from his index finger. He usually used the onomatopoeia "Bang! (バン！)" when doing so. She could decapitate her targets at close range, from short to medium distance, using a sword; nearby allies covered their eyes in the same way as when she performed the ritual to crush from a distance.

Powers and abilities, part 3.

Contracts Prime Minister of Japan: Any attack inflicted on Makima is transferred like a disease or illness affecting a random Japanese citizen. The contract had a flaw in its clause, centered on the word "attack," and that is, if Makima was harmed by someone who did not intend to harm her, but rather in an act of love or help, the harm was not redirected. Skills Enhanced Scent: According to Denji, Makima primarily differentiated others through scent. In their first meeting, she was able to detect that Pochita still existed within Denji through his scent. High Alcohol Tolerance: Makima had an extremely high tolerance for alcohol consumption, able to outdrink Aki and Himeno without showing any signs of intoxication from the large amounts of alcohol ingested. Expert manipulator: Makima was an expert in manipulation without using her demonic powers, resorting to dialogues or actions that convinced her targets, whether through fear or love.
