Shuji Hanma

Appearance Hanma is a lanky teenager with predominantly black hair and a yellow stripe down the middle. It is shaved on the sides and long on top. He wears a long golden earring in his left ear and has the kanji characters for the words "Sin" and "Punishment" tattooed on his left and right hands respectively. He is usually seen wearing his current gang uniforms, but when he first appears, he wears an oversized white button-down Henley shirt, black cropped skinny jeans, and sandals. Personality Hanma can be described as an adrenaline junkie. His sole purpose in life is to find excitement, turning to street violence as a means to relieve his intense boredom. However, he slowly sinks into apathy as he continues to win fight after fight without much resistance. It is for this reason that he eventually allies himself with Tetta Kisaki and does not care much if the latter exploits him as he finds exhilaration in following her plans. As long as he can entertain himself, Hanma cares little about the consequences or collateral damage his actions cause. This mentality even extends to himself, as he has very little regard for the value of his own life. Hanma is also sadistic and cruel; he enthusiastically enjoys violence and takes an active role in Kisaki's schemes. He is also known to gloat and enjoy the chaos caused by his crimes, sometimes reacting with elation to being in the thick of battle and seeing people hurt because of his schemes. Despite being a cruel sadist, and his friendship with Kisaki being true after the latter's death, Hanma has a standard of valor towards the allies he sided with, especially when he is horrified that Mikey would suddenly attack both enemies and allies alike.

Skills and abilities Authority Hanma has been one of the top executives of many gangs, such as Toman, Moebius, and Valhalla. He is Kisaki's right-hand man and thus has considerable authority. Skill in fighting Hanma is a very competent fighter. He can defeat numerous criminals on his own. He especially excels at endurance. Draken called him "Zombie" for that very reason, as it took Draken a surprising amount of hits to finally defeat Hanma. He was able to block Mikey's signature kick and emerged virtually unscathed after the punch, also managing to fight Mikey to a standstill. He lost in a later battle against Mikey, solely due to his carelessness.

Etymology The name Shuji means "discipline, study, well-behaved, teacher" (修) ( shu ) and "two" (二) ( ji ). Shuji's surname, Hanma, means "half" (半) ( han ) and "meanwhile, time, interval, space" (間) ( ma ). Trivia According to the official character book: The color of his image is purple. He likes strong emotions♡. He doesn't like anyone but himself. His special ability is breaking people's teeth. The people he respects or admires are older people who treat him well. His dream is to have 100 slaves who do everything for him, from getting up to going to bed. His heroic story (or failure story): He has great kinetic eyesight that will not allow him to take a direct hit from any human blow (Mikey is inhuman). His favorite place is inside a fight.
